    Glad to see restoration on these units. Too many people throw useful things away just because it's not shiny any more or needs some minor repair. Nice job and useful website. I sent you an email with questions about my Kohler M20S.

    I can't believe you got such a nice finish on the paint from a spray can. That takes talent. You're doing all the tractor lovers out there a public service by restoring them, even if there not for sale. It's just great to see them around and being enjoyed. I just started with a International Cub Cadet 149. Can't wait to pick up the next old tractor for sale that I cross paths with.

      dellstudio10, I bought an 82 JD212 for $250 & needed a mower & had no idea what I got into. Got it home got it going & love the thing!
      I’ve also gotten a 73 sears ST16 & put a predator on it cuz the stock coil was still good on the 16hp Tecumseh, but I wanted something temporary that wasn’t a giant gas hog.
      Has a nice patina, so I clear coated it.
      My channel is MikeJD60.
      I also got an unknown year GT17 for free with a tiller, & 48” deck. Got most of the parts to fix it except for a coil, starter, & carb for the engine.
      Just found a 1973 case 222 that just needs an engine, so I’ll be doing a swap on it with a known good K301.
      I like to keep it stock especially for the hydro-drive stuff.
      I’m looking forward to it & love these old tractors.
      But sadly you can’t save them all, oh well.
      Happy tractor hunting brother!

    Nice collection…. That WheelHorse brings back memories of growing up in Syracuse NY in the late 70s - my dad got hold of a WH GT - had the plow, the rototiller, the cutting-deck, the lawn-sweeper, the dethatcher, core-irritator, lawn-roller and broadcast-spreader. I made a lot of moola with that rig during all four seasons

    • @michaelbenoit248
      @michaelbenoit248 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Pete Yearling, I’ve done 2 & working on my 3rd & hopefully getting a 4th that only needs a motor.
      So I can have a smaller hydro tractor/case 222, I have an Ariens GT17/18 that I’m fixing up, these things are gas hogs.
      I have a JD212, I like a good manual tractor, but a hydro is nice. Not having to constantly shift gears, it’s not that bad unless you’re mowing.
      You kinda get good @ shifting though.

    Nice job refurbishing those old tractors ! I own an Ingersoll too...with an 18 horse Onan made in 1986. I have used that tractor for over 30 years, all year round ! I've got the 48 inch snowblower, with the steel cab. The 3 point hitch.( never installed it). I also have the hydraulic vacuum and trailer for cleaning up as I mow. I usually don't vacuum during the summer, but I use it everyday in the fall !! I have a large yard ! Great tractor ! I'd be lost without it. I'm painting it this summer. peace

  • @michaelbenoit248
    @michaelbenoit248 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I’m 16 & I bought an 82 JD 212 on Craiglist here in Texas to replace a free craftsman mower with the twin 21hp intek motor that was leaking oil bad along with the fact the trans was going out so I bought the 212 & the brigs wasn’t that great so I junked it. My Dad helped me get the 212 home, got it running/typical carb clean. Then not that long after disaster hit the carb & it had vertical movement in the throttle plate when wide open so I bought a decent one off amazon, it was junk, so I sent it back then I turned to the Isavetractors brand & paid a little more money for the carb since it’s good quality, only to find out it’s a duplicate of the one I bought so I returned it & bought a $120 OEM quality carb & it worked but the gaskets at the bowl are junk so I’m ordering fabric to make my own.
    I’m the meantime I found an ariens GT17 w a 18hp magnum motor in it & a 70s sears suburban/ST12-16, single cylinder.
    The Ariens GT17 has the tiller on the rear, a mower deck, & a broken seat & steering wheel. The tractor has rear hydraulic lift so I could put a 3 point on the back if I wanted to so that’s good.
    I looked at the sears ST/12-16 & it looked cosmetically fine, mostly complete (no mower deck which is fine cuz I don’t want to cut gras with it anyways)
    I didn’t get much time to look at it cuz I was there for a school thing for the wide open space, with my private school. I noticed the orange Ariens when I was leaving, but didn’t think about it, I thought it was just an old case tractor after the late 90s early 2000s, but boy was I wrong.
    I can’t wait to tear into em cuz I had lot of fun fixing up my 212, even so with my limited budget I ran out of things to do to it including paint, so the father above helped me find two tractors, I wanted a tractor like a 318, but something with comparable power will suffice.
    A sears suburban has been on my bucket list for a while to since it so easy to swap a predator into it, whereas an old deere with a Kohler, it’s really hard to do it without a welder cuz of the way it’s positioned.
    I had to jerk the motor on my 212 & we have a 1ton gantry in our barn that did the heavy lifting that saved my back, I’ve had some back trouble over the yrs. it took me an like 2hrs to get the motor back into the Tractor cuz the mounting plate is split & it picots on rubber bushings, so that was a royal pain in my A$$.
    Stick shift old tractors are the best but a good hydro for the heavy lifting is fine, since there’s no belts, no shaft driven clutches, & it’s good for cruising but it’s horrible for mowing.
    Especially on an old Deere with a variable drive where it takes a few seconds to change gears. But if you’re on a straight away & aren’t changing gears much it’s fine. You do get a bit of slippage from the variator on takeoff.

      +isavetractors In my own experience, I sandblasted all the parts for a 1967 Sears Suburban 12 with aluminum oxide then sprayed them with self etching grey rustoleum and then sprayed it with Rustoleum 2X orange because it was a perfect match for the original Sears color, though when re-assembling the parts, it chipped and scratched off VERY easily. I was not thrilled with the durability. I did not sand between coats and I'm now being told that I should have. I'm not sure how big a difference that makes. I also didn't get a super smooth 'factory' type finish. I know I can wet sand and polish but doing that over every contoured part would be beyond tedious. I used Rustoleum 'Appliance Epoxy' which was a perfect match for the white colors found on the Suburban and I found this paint to be much more durable even though it said it was for indoor use only. I'm also not sure how it can be 'epoxy' if you do not mix two parts before use. Finding original decals can also be hit or miss in that some seem to be higher quality than others. Where do you source your decals?

    • @Isavetractors
      @Isavetractors  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      We get our decals from George Bradish Tractor Parts in PA and redoyourhorse.com for Wheel Horse. Regarding Painting: Yes wet sanding between coats and painting when it is the proper temperature leads to a smooth gloss finish. I paint everything from a Spray Can and in the past have used Majic Paints from Tractor Supply. But now I find using normal Rustoleum works better. I use Chemical Paint Stripper, Flapper Wheels, and Wire Brushes to remove paint and rust. I then prime with Rustoleoum Primer, then paint with Rustoleum Spray Paint with wet sanding between coats and allowing 24 hours between coats. Before final assembly I let the paint cure for a full week so it reaches maximum durability. If you assembly too soon, it will scratch easily as you noticed. To get the very best results you would need to use an HVLP Paint gun with a hardener to get the factory gloss finish. I find with a lot more elbow grease you can get great results from a spray can, and patience without the harmful health effects associated with Paint Hardener.

      The hydro whining sound can be caused by a few things: 1. Oil being too thick in viscosity. Make sure you're using the correct oil, and allow your tractor to warm up before driving if it's cold weather, also make sure your oil filter is clean. 2. Relief valves being stuck open allowing oil to pass through the small orifice causing the sound. 3. Potential wear inside including bearings. Some amount of noise is normal because high pressure oil is moving through a system. If the sound isn't too bad the best thing to do is leave it alone. Other than that a full rebuild and inspection would be necessary.

    So I have an old riding lawn mower..I think my brother said it was a case ..it doesn't run but he bought a few new parts to see if he could get it to run..well he passed away few months ago..well my question is it worth anything not running and if so how much ?

    You need some John Deere like the 140. 318 and 420

    165 should be either 82 0r 83. Closed sides of the LGT 125 145 165 only made for 2 years, not sure how many years for the 195. I have a LGT 125 and 145. The 125 grandfather bought new in 82. We also have a 1987 318 John Deere and a 1998 John Deere 425.

    How do you identify the year on an old ford like the 120?

    • @Isavetractors
      @Isavetractors  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I normally identify tractors like that based on the engine serial number

    • @2CANADIANKID
      @2CANADIANKID 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      isavetractors which set of numbers would tell the year. The last two?

    • @Isavetractors
      @Isavetractors  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The first 2 or 3 numbers in the serial number. Check out our website, we have an area to download free service manuals. Download the one for the K Series engines and in the first few pages it explains what the numbers mean.

    What Should I pay for an early Ingersoll 446, in ok shape. No attachments other than mower deck. Not sure the size. All tires are rotted, but holds air kinda!! Two have slow leeks. Supposed to run well. Looking at $1000.00 Rather get it for $600, but I'm not sure what they go for. Seems like many of these videos, never mention $$$

    • @Isavetractors
      @Isavetractors  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      $1,000 seems high to me. But pay as much as you're willing. There is no real market value. For tractors I really want I pay more to assure I get it, others I pay a lot lower. It all depends

      Our snowbanks about 7 feet high at the end of my driveway. We had about 4 feet of snow fall within the last week and another potential foot on the way on Tuesday, which I believe is the official start of Spring! That's Maine, USA!

      The engine is dated 1959 so I consider it all to 1959. It may not be the exact original engine, so who knows. Close Enough.
