I know there’s jokes and all about child support and shit but you really gotta give it to Toji here. He was a vessel ordered to massacre any sorcerer he sees and targets the highest ct there, so he had half of the control of his body but when he realised it was megumi, he halted his orders and killed himself to save megumi. One way or another, Toji really loved megumi. He only lost interest in megumi when his wife died and thought that megumi would have a better like in the clan than him. He did that for his future for better or for worse. He really loved megumi mum, he really loved his son but chose to forget everything when he lost his treasure, his wife and went back to his down roads to live life without regret without us knowing he was in such pain until it was brought into light. Not the best father of the year yes but a true father nonetheless. Just my take. Do what you will with that information.
Finally someone who gets it, I don't find the jokes about child support funny tbh. Was Toji a terrible deadbeat dad? Yes he was. Does he love Megumi? Yes he does. Toji is a complex character. All that self-hatred and inferiority complex he had was all because of the Zenin clan. When he met Mamagumi, he finally had something worth living for. He probably was scared at first at commiting to a relationship when he met Mamagumi but she slowly broke his walls down and gave him happiness with Megumi. Toji probably blamed himself for her death because he thought his bad luck was brought unto her. She died after Megumi was born and before Toji's birthday so that broke him even more. Toji loved Megumi that he wanted him to live a better life even if its with the Zenins since he inherited the clan's technique. He probably thought that he's not fit to raise Megumi in that kind of environment with him always away taking assassin jobs that's why he requested Megumi to be with the Zenins.

@@QuinnNyla I'm going to summarize it as much as I can because as other comments say, Toji's character is very complex, but the most important thing is that he, as well as Maki and his sister, were despised within the Zenin clan for not having cursed energy, Toji hated that clan, so as soon as he got married he adopted his wife's surname.
Here it must be taken into account that Toji did not have total control over his body, so he would still try to kill everyone, but when he realized that it was his son, he asks him for his last name, when Megumin tells him 'Fushijiro', he sees that his son decided to reject the Zenin clan and be free. As explained in the series, Toji wanted to sell Megumin because he had a large amount of cursed energy, but he didn't sell it for money, Toji knew that he was going to have a better life there than with the clan.
I apologize if I didn't get my point across, but in short, he's proud that his son didn't sell out for status or power.
