+Rich M Yeah, his way of doing it is probably one of the cheaper ones. A lot of people own RVs and stuff here and there's websites where you can rent a privatly owned one fairly cheaply (although there's some risk of it not being in the best shape if you don't see pictures and talk with the owner (and preferably get someone to check it out) first. Anything involving local labour is also expensive here so it's a good idea to buy raw materials and just cook it yourself as the price difference is *massive* (at least here in Norway). You can legally camp pretty much anywhere due to the freedom to roam. (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freedom_to_roam) although I do recommend looking up the details of the local laws for each country, the wiki article gives a good basic introduction to get you started. Everyone speaks pretty good English so language shouldn't be much of a barrier in that sense. There's plenty of gas stations etc available, although I recommend against buying more then absolutely necessary there as the prices there are usually significantly higher then in regular stores. I would also recommend another route then what he took (the border areas between Norway and Sweden and Northern Sweden isn't all that interesting because it is heavily forested and low population) instead I'd recommend driving alongside the coast of Norway and Sweden and taking that route back to Finnland, possibly include a visit to Denmark and Estonia in the trip too. And yeah, when calculating distances it's smart to multiply them with 10 at least as the terrain is *full* of both fjords and mountains and valleys, meaning that you rarely drive in a straight line even when it looks like one on the map... Also, the speeds will vary significantly. And you do *not* want to be speeding, especially in Norway as Norway has the highest speeding tickets in Europe and even potential jail time for speeding as well as a high punishment for a lot of other traffic related stuff, or in other words, make sure you're on your best driving behavior in Norway at all times and don't even *think* about drinking alcohol if you plan on driving within the next 12 hours or so, not even low alcohol levels... (The christian peoples party has a lot of influence here) Oh, and if you're taking a RV it's nice if you bring one with bikes attached on the back. That way you can go biking along some of the biking routes around the country or even off roading with the bike. ^^ Also make sure you bring plenty of good clothing. Something water and wind resistant as the outermost layer, ideally something not too heavy. And preferably thick wool for inside (I recommend Icelandic "lopapeysa" as it is made with very lightly spun wool trapping more then normal air within it for extra insulation en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lopapeysa) Don't go all winter and rain/wind clothing though. As you might have seen in some of the earlier videos in this series nordic weather can switch pretty quickly so it's smart to be prepared to switch at a moments notice between different alternatives and to have multiple layers so you can remove and add them as needed both to avoid overheating and to avoid the cold. =)

But at any rate it's definitivly referring to a Swedish king. 7:44 That sign to the right says "The churchs mountain farm" the next sign says the same but adds "Welcome to" in front of it. 13:19 I'd say it's pretty good with Norwegian too. However the thing is that Norwegians understand Swedish and Danish so we don't really mind much when the AI mixes up Danish, Swedish and Norwegian and as a result the AI don't really learn all that fast those differences. Also, we got a ton of dialects and we're not afraid to use them. 18:10 It's because of the differences in policy between Norway and Sweden. Norway has activly faught against urbanization and even managed to reverse it in the seventies for a while, as a result our population is a lot more distributed out throughout the country and there's more to see there. In Sweden rural areas are a lot more depopulated as Sweden didn't mind urbanization as much. That means that a lot of Sweden has just returned to being the old forests they where a long time ago. Next time I recommend driving through Norway till you reach the south coast and drive *that* way into Sweden and then drive along the Swedish coast northwards. There isn't looming prohibition coming to Nordic countries. It is just that booze and beer are more expensive in Norway than it is in Sweden or Finland. Norwegians travel to buy it in bulk across the border. In southern Finland people do that in Estonia and in Sweden the booze run destination is Denmark. Danes do that same thing across German border.
I've seen many Swedes who go to Riga by cruise ships and also don't miss the chance to get cheap booze. I've travelled for several times to Sweden and booze is EXPENSIVE there, I assure you.😫

the dryer thing is a drying cabinet. its supposed to take hours so it dont get to hot. we put shoes and everthing in there. If we are in a hurry we normaly use a dryer to. And the washing machines can take hours to be done. its supposed to use less water and Electricity. Hope to see you back in southern part of Sweden with more time sometime. Tips go to the Island of Gotland in the middle of the baltic sea. Its a magical place. ;) (atleast to me, was born there)
Kristofer Olsson: It's absolutely beautiful...though I've only seen pictures and videos. I like the idea of the drying cabinet..much more "eco-friendly" and better for the garments, too. I put up a clothesline in my back yard and my neighbors acted like I was crazy. I just prefer to dry things more slowly...in sunshine, if possible. I'm going to research your "magical island." Your trip gave me this idea of renting an RV and driving to Nordkapp (where I have wanted to visit for several years) next summer. So I need to thank you for the inspiration. :)
The Nordic countries have some of the best education systems in the entire world, and Finland is ranked #1 in education worldwide. Thanks to this, Nordic people are very well versed in languages, and are the best non-native English speakers in Europe. For example in Finland in order to just graduate from high school you need to study Finnish, Swedish and English. Many people also take voluntary German as well in high school and college. Thanks to this there are a lot of English-speaking migrants in the Nordics, mainly from Britain but you also hear American and Australian accents every now and then. It's entirely possible to live here with just English, but I think if you want to be a permanent resident you need to study one of the official languages.

Great job as always! You had a bit of bad luck with the "laundry room", consumer grade machines like they had are very very slow. But I guess they don't have enough guests to warrant investing in a professional grade machine which would have been much quicker (and it seems the campsite was prettty cheap, altough I think you found the only Swede in the country that only accepted cash).
That thing at the ICA Maxi is a self-scanner. Apparently you scan the items yourself as you pick them up and then simply pay the total at the checkout (or maybe have it directly charged to your card, I'm not sure).
I think you just missed Saltstraumen, a small strait with one of the strongest tidal currents in the world. Next time you get here, then you will need at least a month in Norway.

Are you asking for a nightmares? Nightmare fuel perhaps? Fuel is more than bit more expensive in Europe than it is in US due to much harsher taxation. Price of gasoline isn't relevant with RV's, especially if it is rental, as in Europe most of those are diesels. Diesel is cheaper than gasoline in most of European countries due to taxation, diesel powered vehicles usually have annual flat rate tax that is in most cases less for vans and heavy trucks than it is for cars. Price of gas here in Finland is bit under 7 dollars a gallon, diesel bit under 6 dollars a gallon. Across the border in Norway it is worse, price for a gallon for gas is somewhere in ballpark of 8 dollars. That is essentially why diesel powered cars are more popular in Europe than in US, those make more sense if the annual flat rate tax is lower than price difference between diesel and gasoline. It is also the reason why Europeans tend to have smaller cars. This leads to one thing Robert raised in one of his previous videos about this road trip. Why trailers on cars are so common in Finland? Those are essentially substitute for pickup trucks for people that occasionally have to transport something too big for a car. As result it could be easily turned around. Why pickup trucks are so rare in Europe? In US it might make sense for city dweller to who only occasionally need to haul something bigger like dirt bike use pickup as daily driver. For most of urban and suburban pickup owners a car with permanently attached trailer in US is a minor penalty fuel efficiency. In Europe people with pickup trucks tend to use that transport capacity on daily basis, so only tradesmen like building contractors use those. In general in Europe they tend to use vans more often, but that is another can of worms. Too much about certainties of life in this comment for me. Death, taxation and so on.

Just picked this while watching this second time: @5:04 "Of course, nowadays you don't have to stop". Well ... "nowadays" have been since 1952. That's when Nordic Passport Union became effective. Since then, you didn't need to stop at the border, unless customs officers wanted to inspect you.
Robert I know you have a car and a trailer, what would you recommend in Europe, do you think a caravan and a car works well there or do you think an RV? I live in Ireland so I should know myself but I have never had a caravan or a campervan, any of your thoughts on this would be great. I think I like the idea of being able to park up and have a car, but most people seem to have Motorhomes/campervans here.
I prefer an RV, personally, and European RV's are small enough that you can find parking easily. They are more self contained and many times you don't even need to go to a proper campground. I don't have experience with a trailer in Europe, but I assume you would definitely have to drop the trailer at a campground and the drive around in your car. If you are going to be at the same place for many days I would think trailer is better. If you are going to be moving more often then motorhome.
I understand the "not entertaining" part. Sweden is a very big country, in Europe standards. But not very populated. Especially Norrland (the north half of Sweden). Only 12% of our total population lives there. That makes an avg of only 8 inhabitants per square km. The other (almost) 9 million live in the south. :P

Notice the difference in the strip in the middle of the road. Norway is the only country in the world who has a orange/yellow stripe when the road if there is traffic both ways. It’s not actually a drier, it’s meant for heating up clothes. Very convenient in the winter.

I've seen many Swedes who go to Riga by cruise ships and also don't miss the chance to get cheap booze. I've travelled for several times to Sweden and booze is EXPENSIVE there, I assure you.😫

Hi Robert. Friendly request, when you talk for long periods on the road can you keep the camera on the road ahead and put a small insert screen on the top left or voice-over later. So we can enjoy the vacation and scenery. Thank you for your work and travel safely.
the dryer thing is a drying cabinet. its supposed to take hours so it dont get to hot. we put shoes and everthing in there. If we are in a hurry we normaly use a dryer to. And the washing machines can take hours to be done. its supposed to use less water and Electricity. Hope to see you back in southern part of Sweden with more time sometime. Tips go to the Island of Gotland in the middle of the baltic sea. Its a magical place. ;) (atleast to me, was born there)
Kristofer Olsson: It's absolutely beautiful...though I've only seen pictures and videos. I like the idea of the drying cabinet..much more "eco-friendly" and better for the garments, too. I put up a clothesline in my back yard and my neighbors acted like I was crazy. I just prefer to dry things more slowly...in sunshine, if possible. I'm going to research your "magical island." Yes, it is selfscanning you are seeing. Sweden started with selfscanning for about 15-20 years ago.
The northern part of Norway, is so different from the southern parts. And the south-west is very different from the south-east! Great videos!

The Nordic countries have some of the best education systems in the entire world, and Finland is ranked #1 in education worldwide. Thanks to this, Nordic people are very well versed in languages, and are the best non-native English speakers in Europe. For example in Finland in order to just graduate from high school you need to study Finnish, Swedish and English. Many people also take voluntary German as well in high school and college. Thanks to this there are a lot of English-speaking migrants in the Nordics, mainly from Britain but you also hear American and Australian accents every now and then. It's entirely possible to live here with just English, but I think if you want to be a permanent resident you need to study one of the official languages.
It is very convenient for visitors, and I agree, if you want to be a permanent resident of any country you must learn the language.

Great job as always! You had a bit of bad luck with the "laundry room", consumer grade machines like they had are very very slow. But I guess they don't have enough guests to warrant investing in a professional grade machine which would have been much quicker (and it seems the campsite was prettty cheap, altough I think you found the only Swede in the country that only accepted cash).
That thing at the ICA Maxi is a self-scanner. Apparently you scan the items yourself as you pick them up and then simply pay the total at the checkout (or maybe have it directly charged to your card, I'm not sure).
Something like that.
You scan your card and then u get a selfscanner and then u pay yourself upon checkout. They have random checks ones in a while .
I think you just missed Saltstraumen, a small strait with one of the strongest tidal currents in the world. Next time you get here, then you will need at least a month in Norway.

Are you asking for a nightmares? Nightmare fuel perhaps?
Fuel is more than bit more expensive in Europe than it is in US due to much harsher taxation. Price of gasoline isn't relevant with RV's, especially if it is rental, as in Europe most of those are diesels. Diesel is cheaper than gasoline in most of European countries due to taxation, diesel powered vehicles usually have annual flat rate tax that is in most cases less for vans and heavy trucks than it is for cars. Price of gas here in Finland is bit under 7 dollars a gallon, diesel bit under 6 dollars a gallon. Across the border in Norway it is worse, price for a gallon for gas is somewhere in ballpark of 8 dollars.
That is essentially why diesel powered cars are more popular in Europe than in US, those make more sense if the annual flat rate tax is lower than price difference between diesel and gasoline. It is also the reason why Europeans tend to have smaller cars. This leads to one thing Robert raised in one of his previous videos about this road trip. Why trailers on cars are so common in Finland? Those are essentially substitute for pickup trucks for people that occasionally have to transport something too big for a car. As result it could be easily turned around. Why pickup trucks are so rare in Europe? In US it might make sense for city dweller to who only occasionally need to haul something bigger like dirt bike use pickup as daily driver. For most of urban and suburban pickup owners a car with permanently attached trailer in US is a minor penalty fuel efficiency. In Europe people with pickup trucks tend to use that transport capacity on daily basis, so only tradesmen like building contractors use those. In general in Europe they tend to use vans more often, but that is another can of worms. Too much about certainties of life in this comment for me. Death, taxation and so on.

Robert I know you have a car and a trailer, what would you recommend in Europe, do you think a caravan and a car works well there or do you think an RV? I live in Ireland so I should know myself but I have never had a caravan or a campervan, any of your thoughts on this would be great. I think I like the idea of being able to park up and have a car, but most people seem to have Motorhomes/campervans here.
I prefer an RV, personally, and European RV's are small enough that you can find parking easily. They are more self contained and many times you don't even need to go to a proper campground. I don't have experience with a trailer in Europe, but I assume you would definitely have to drop the trailer at a campground and the drive around in your car. If you are going to be at the same place for many days I would think trailer is better. If you are going to be moving more often then motorhome.

I understand the "not entertaining" part. Sweden is a very big country, in Europe standards. But not very populated. Especially Norrland (the north half of Sweden). Only 12% of our total population lives there. That makes an avg of only 8 inhabitants per square km. The other (almost) 9 million live in the south. :P

There is no toll crossing borders.

Notice the difference in the strip in the middle of the road. Norway is the only country in the world who has a orange/yellow stripe when the road if there is traffic both ways. When it comes to landscape of eastern coast of Finland "boring" is not same as "tranquility". It's more like "frustration". Flat lands as far as eye can see, hour after hour after hour ...
