      A matte finish is less likely to show a scratch compared to a gloss finish, as a scratch is usually dulling and destroying the finish. On a matte finish club, the club already has a dulled look.

    Honest and great review as always Rick🙌🏼 my personal opinion is that the top brands have hit a brick wall with what they can and can’t do with drivers these days, they pushed technology to what’s physically legal and it’s up to the marketing boffins to sell you a load of same old, same old…

    • @wayneatplay
      @wayneatplay 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Agreed mate....but they still charge like a wounded bull at a Gate for em.

    • @kevinhagmeier9074
      @kevinhagmeier9074 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      100% and as Rick mentioned if you got a driver in the last 3-5 years there really isn't a point to getting a new one as the technology differences are so minimal year on year but if you have one that's 5+ years old then you *maybe* want to consider a new driver but even then you're not going to be gaining a whole lot if your current driver gets the job done.
      No driver is going to instantly add 20 yards to your swing if someone purchased a properly fitted driver within the last 5ish years.

    • @karlg1535
      @karlg1535 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@wayneatplay depends how often you're buying. Every year yeah that's gonna hurt but I've had my g15 for 10 years now. So if I go buy a new one for 600 and use it for 10 years it's not so bad. My first whole set cost me about 2k and I've gone from 120s- mid/high 80s in that time. It's actually time for my first fitting for irons as my 4/5/6 have all broken this season and two of those heads are in a pond so I won't be fixing them with new shafts and just buying a proper set for me.

    • @danielobryan8992
      @danielobryan8992 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@karlg1535 I mean, yea, for an actively improving golfer obviously getting better fitting equipment for your "new" swing is going to see improvements. But for the vast majority of average golfers, they are going to see little to no difference between a brand new 2022 driver, and the same brand equivalent from 2018 (assuming identical specs)

    • @JeremyBatts
      @JeremyBatts 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      "they pushed technology to what’s physically legal and it’s up to the marketing boffins to sell you a load of same old, same old…"
      I dunno, I'm a Callaway fan by default, but the new TaylorMade Stealth with the carbon faces and a huge drop in weight looks to be a possible gamechanger.

    Thanks Rick. Great video. I bought a Calloway Rogue last year that replaced a Taylor Made R7 driver that was a decade old or more. 9 degree with nothing adjustable. Loved that Taylor Made R7 and still love it. I tried to replace it several times through the years and it would always feel better and out perform anything I tested, until I found the Rogue last year. It does not have the same sound off the face as my Taylor Made R7 but goes just a bit farther and is a bit more forgiving. Which is good because I am not getting any younger. But have to be honest, I am hitting my driver better because of some of the things I have learned from watching your videos. Your videos, more focused fitness, and new equipment will hopefully stave off some of the fall off in distance as I age. 55 now and was starting to notice a slight fall off on driver distance. Not so much on the rest of my clubs yet. But my new Rogue and some more golf oriented work outs helped me gain some of that lost driver distance back along with what I learned from your videos.
    Have to admit, love the look of the new Calloway Rogue, may be a bit more than the new Taylor Made drivers you tested, though that red face is pretty cool. But given your reviews, won't be rushing out to buy either driver just yet. Will stick with last year's Rogue model for at least a few seasons.

    Great review, thanks Rick. Last year I upgraded from a 15 year old Big Bertha2 to the Mavrik Max and gained 25 yards(avg). Being 58 years old, I don't think I'll see a dramatic jump in technology that will produce that type of gain, again. But, that's fine as I now need to improve my short game. :)

    I bought a trip Diamond LS used on EBAy with a Tensei White Reg Flex. I'm 64 and an 11 Index. First Reg Flex I've owned in almost 50 years. It's forgiving enough but I'm usually a straight hitter. I don't go to parallel anymore but I still get around a 100 on swing speed. The LS has given me noticeable length, It's not strictly for low handicappers.

    Love you bro and the videos. Not surprised there isn’t much different. Golf equipment has pretty much plateaued at this point. Other then being flashy the older and cheaper equipment can be just as effective as they’re basically pushing the same products. It’s just the natural order of business and consumer. That said I think they look sharp keep it up!

      The tech can do way more. The USGA won't let them. Can't make the faces any faster, can't make the heads any bigger. The only real gains are from higher MOI drivers being more stable, and using variable face thickness to get more of the face close to as hot as the center.

    I’ve just ordered the Rogue ST Max after my first ever custom fitting. All very exciting and I can’t wait to get out on the course…. But Callaway have said they’ll ship it “mid April” …. That’s around 5 weeks after ordering. Why does it take so long to fit a driver head to a shaft? Is this normal or are there supply issues? No wonder people just want to pick one up off the shelf. 🙁 (clearly this is a first world issue compared to everything else that’s going on but it’s still frustrating having spent £400 😡)

    I understand technology has all but maxed out, but the Rogue ST line is significantly different IMO. I game the EPIC LS, been testing the Rogue ST LS, significant difference. I used my Ventus Velacore in each. Rogue ST LS is just easier to hit, by a decent amount. It doesn’t have quite the workability of the Epic, but you can move shots. Just my thoughts.
    Like always, great review. Thanks

      i feel the exact same way. had the epic 2021 max and now rogues st max ls and its going way less right, im finding the middle more often and just goes further, using the same shaft.

    Good review, Rick. I' just picked up a Mizuno STZ over the holiday on sale. It will replace my 10 year old RBZ. Spend your money on lessons, practice tools and range time. Equipment is a tool. Invest in yourself if you want to get better at golf.

    I just bought the a brand new 2018 year model Rogue driver because you can get them for a super discount right now. I would love to see a comparison of the old rogue and new rogue to see how much of a performance difference there really is.

    My favourite driver from Callaway was the XHot2 Pro from a few years ago. Hit some of my best drives with that club.Great ball flight. I think Danny Willlet used it for some time even when they were trying to get him into the XR stuff and won The Masters with it. Wish I still had it.

    Great review. One quick comment on the LS type models (and this goes for other driver reviews as well), but it would be great to see some comparisons for each of the models just taking into account the best strikes. The averages alone don't quite give all of the story. Now if you see the increased performance on the best strikes of the TD LS model compared to the others, but then the averages start to show the drop off, that really speaks to forgiveness, but allows some of your viewers that are very good ball strikers to better consider it.
