    Lots of dummies here complaining that it wasn't done at full speed. That's because he needs to go slowly so his students can see what's going on. If you do judo you'll understand this. In a real situation this move needs to be explosive.
    That's why you must TRAIN, not just watch videos. Good that he acknowledged that a classic throw like koshi guruma or o-goshi might not work depending on the dynamics. This is why you need a repetoire of throws you've trained so you can decide in a a split-second which one to use, depending on your attacker's weight, body position etc. You have to do randori (free combat) in your training to get a feel for this, not just take a video in isolation and complain about it. It's a good demo, a variation of osoto gari , which works well if you take their balance first and are explosive with it.

  • @zakzac1

    I teach this myself. I would like to point out the dangers though of not kicking up that back leg. If you look closely the opponents foot stuck to floor for a split second. I have seen people's knees get pretty messed up from not helping partner out and overemphasizing backward leg kick to get that foot off of the ground.
    For the streets f the guy and his knee, you can actually put slight backward pressure into the knee to help possibly break it. But for training we've got to look out for each other. I hope everyone learning or teaching this keeps that in mind.

    Great throw that gives an alternative to hip throw from that position. Make no mistake, done at full speed on a hard surface, these throw will put someone down for a time.
    My only issue with this type of move as 'self defence' is no striking is taken into account.
    Either in dealing with the opponent striking or (from the set up here) using your own strikes to set him up for your throw. Going straight from his double lapel grab into your throw defence without your own strikes to set it up is a big mistake in these grapple only arts IMO. For real situation i shay's feel you must learn to integrate strikes and grappling fully to be most successful.

    • @bob_the_barbarian
      @bob_the_barbarian 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@richplant2205 it's not about what the person does after you throw them, or not only... It's about stunning them enough that even a skilled attacker will be surprised/stunned, shaken enough for you to throw them at all in the first place. If they have any skills and you go straight for the throw, you could easily end up in a world of hurt.
      A simple palm to the nose or throat jab increases the likelihood of a successful throw significantly.

    • @A04700
      @A04700 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No the problem is he isn't moving his opponent i can tell that throw wont work without momentum out of my experience in tournaments. In a throw you also use your full body weight so you technically fall. On bigger opponents I prefer swipes or leg clinches its effectiv against bigger people but won't finish them instantly in most cases in street fights.

    For self defense; all hip type throws should be avoided. You are deliberately giving someone your back and hoping they don't know how easy it is to counter. Direct reaps, sweeps and takedowns can allow you to bail out without putting yourself in danger. 4th degree Japanese Jujitsu.

    I was a high level competitor in judo for a long time, terrible move especially being taught by a brown belt, all the big guy has to do is bring his left leg back and he now has the same leverage/advantage the other guy has, this was a favourite move adopted by a lot of clubs when I was young but can easily turn very bad, cam probably find a lot of competition videos of this.

That was the point I was making, it's not an effective move because it puts you in more danger, and if you are asking can I come up with any alternatives? 😂😂😂 yes I could give you hundreds, like I said I was high level and you misunderstood my point but also the fact you think putting yourself in a dangerous position is good shows you don't really know what you're talking about. You do know as a experienced fighter that throws are like not ment to be only atm strength you have to use your whole body for example if you jump between his legs and hold him, even if you are not strong enough to lift him for 5 sec that will be enough to execute a throw because real martial artist don't focus on their arm strength much. thats how you can take down bigger guys. If your way of thinking is like you said you are the inexperienced one buddy, if you know that a hip throw isn't working because the opponent is focused on pulling back or standing his ground (1o0%) you can use a leg sweep for example to knock them backwards idk if you, the experienced fighter know that but leg sweeps work the best if a opponent is focused on defense for example pulling you, standing his ground by going down a bit or just leaning back so the on who has no idea is you buddy lmao watch some Yt videos they will hopefully open your eyes or go get some experience first before spilling bullshit

      Whatever let's just drop it you take shit to serious that guy just wanted to teach a throw thats why he didn't add faints or distractions in my opinion because it would lead to confusion to those who want to learn it so have a great day sir

    This is a terrible move especially if the guy is taller and heavier than you!!
    You are never going to have time to get into position he is simply going to pick you off your feet and slam you on the ground!
    Especially if you wrap your arm around them in grab or cup lmfao 🤣🤮🤣🤮

    That will never work. If he has His hands on your shirt he’s not letting go buddy and that means trying to squeeze in the middle will not work also. Obviously you never been in a real fight before?

      It'd work if rotated and faced him more, then actually swept the leg. I'm a Judo guy. These guys from the looks are BJJ. Before you try to say it won't work, I'm 125, 5'8 and have used things like this in street fights and Wrestling.

    Sorry my friend thats not a useful self defense tactic, you never give ur back to your enemy, it's good technique for sport just not as useful for SD, judo has some incredible moves and power this is just not for that purpose.
