Nice and clear review. Have just sailed a chartered Lagoon 46 of Sardinia for a week. It was actually not the boat I chartered but the Lagoon 46 was offered as a replacement for the boat I did charter (Fountaine Pajot) which turned out not to be available at the very last moment. For the 4 of us (2 adults and 2 young kids) the Lagoon offered more than enough space. We sailed her at up to 25 knots of wind and moved along on the diesels in up to 36 knots of wind. On just a genua we managed 7.5 knots with 22 knots of wind which was better than I had expected for a Lagoon. Even with 36 knots of wind and motoring, the boat behaved very gently with only the occasional spray up front. Agree on the sliding doors. In ours, the second doors jammed all the time when open and had to be lifted up to disengage the lock. I was also a bit annoyed by the cheap lock on the door although I understand that such glass doors won't really stop a determined intruder. The electric toilets and showers were nice. Our boat did not have solar so we needed to run the gen a lot to get enough hot water. But that's what you get with a charter boat I guess. The top storage in the galley was nice although at Bf 7-8 the cups and plates were thrown around in them a lot. In all, we enjoyed our trip a lot and will certainly do this again. But next time I will choose an FP again for sure.
Nice and quick review. I chartered a 2018 Leopard 45 out of Marina Agana in 2021 and enjoyed that boat. I truly liked the door access from the saloon to the bow. Allowed for a lot more ventilation. Both doors were easy to close and open. The sport helm was nice but you do lose some line of sight of the port aft area especially when docking.
Hey mate thanks for sharing! There is a Leopard 45 coming into one of the fleets this season here in Trogir. I may indeed look at getting on her for a review.
We chartered a Lagoon 38 out of Šibenik last summer (with a Croatian captain) and it was "ok"...I understand they're a favorites for charters! At least the engines always started!
@@stewthebassman yes the 39 is a popular model. The doorways and living areas are too small for me personally. But they are very easy to manoeuvre! Often they only have a/c on the saloon. And only on shore power. Not a fan of this either!
@@stewthebassman ! Plus the Captain!? Uufff. Yeh I can see why that was only ‘ok’! Well. Let me know when you want to book the next one! We will find something much more then ok 😉
Perhaps a bit too detailed of a question, but would you know if the AC would reach all the way into the peak cabins/V-cabins (don't really know what they're called)? Also, the fridge(s) feel a bit small if you're chartering this one and you're 8-10 people on board, what's your opinion on that? If you would compare it to say, a Bali 4.5, which would be the better option?
@@xtrnisse depends largely on the configuration/layout. Generally on the 46 the peaks/crew cabin or ‘coffins’ as we call them! Are not connected to to the fwd cabins. And almost never air conditioned in a charter sense. The Bali has some more flexible layouts that often have access through to the peaks. If you are looking for a cat for this many people I would be happy to have a call with you and run over some options 😊
I sailed a new L46 earlier this year and was quite underwhelmed considering the price tag. I agree that the access doors are terrible, but I think they are the same on all Cat's Manufactured Group Beneteau. On our boat, none of the kitchen cabinetry lined up (which would annoy me and my 1 million euros) and there was a dangerous lack of hand-holds on and around the flybridge for anything other than very fair weather sailing (which for us - was far from fair weather). I have noticed that on new 42's, Lagoon has still not added a hand-hold to the aft-port-side of the overhang as you come down from the helm station and down into the cockpit. It is such an ergonomic oversight that so many people comment on, or maybe ergonomics is just not their thing. I also find it terrible that all of these very expensive catamarans fit the cheapest and shoddiest shower hoses that money can buy. I am sure they are laughing at us lol
The upper saloon interior and the cabins in the hulls are not pretty, nautical or appealing. Feels like an Ikea sponsored college dorm. Nick is definitely correct about the patio sliding doors. Good counter space in the galley, but I would want a five inch fiddle on the forward edge of the counter to keep potatoes, squash and otherwise rolly vegetables, not to mention pots of hot soup, from rolling, falling into the port hull companionway in moderate seas. Honestly, has the interior designer ever been sailing anywhere but a small lake? Yes, it is a catamaran and it is not going to heel like a monohull, but when there are swells measured in meters on the beam, this boat ain't gonna be sailin' flat! The owner's hull cabin is nicer but still square cornered, Ikea cabinetry. Frankly, Nick does not seem impressed by any of these parts of the boat. The cockpit is nice and the fly bridge is very nice. I note that Nick said the fly bridge was the warmest (meaning most comfortable, desirable?) place to be on the boat for the five day passage. Speaks well for the fly bridge but not so much for the rest of the boat. I really like the fly bridge. It is the best part of this boat. Possible minor issue, and I could be wrong, but the main (powered) winch seems to be right up against the enclosure. How long before that rotating drum wears a hole in the cloth enclosure? On deck, for the tropics, I really like that the windows are overhung by the cabin top. That is supremely intelligent. Hot house windows are stupid in the lower latitudes, which is where most people want to be. And the decks are good. Lots of room to lounge and get a tan.
Thanks for the feedback Gregory! Yes I must agree not impressed with a few aspects of the yacht. Will be interested to her her into a good breeze and see how she performs relative to the Lagoon 500 from previous years
I'm not a Lagoon 46 fan (I hate the ideal of plywood on a boat), but your ding for the sliding doors is unwarranted, for what reason would you have them unlocked in a seaway? Quick answer, NONE!!
🤣 just to get through the door! Simply opening the door to get through requires you to unlock them for that moment. And in that case it would slide and was dangerous. We were in cold conditions. Keeping the heat in was important. So you would open so go through. Close. Open to go back. You would not ever leave them ‘unlocked’ seaway or not. They would slide themselves to the lock position anyway.
Bro stop filming you and just include the boat while your voice explains as you do and your videos will do much better. Not because there is anything wrong but because people clicking want so quickly see the boat and only the boat.
Interesting take on it. For starters … lol .. no. I’ll keep doing what I do as that’s my style. For sure I’ll take feedback and see where I can improve, as I did with your comment. So I watched it back to see where I filmed me, which I would do every time as I am showing interaction with the boat. What it looks like to walk through it. Get your shoulders through doors. See the head room. If I just film the boat and talk in terms or what it looks like then I may as well just be yacht world selling advertisement videos.

Nice boat and great walk through! Jus one question: Is the bulkhead problem now solved with the 46...?
As far as I am aware yes. They had a recall on the older models and sorted it for the new builds.
@@45DegreesSailingDid you see one bulkhead cut open or did you see what they built in in the yard...?
@@norbertwest7492 no I have not seen the open bulkhead.
Any commentary about steering ,engines etc?
