I feel like listening to Cardiacs is a long journey, and this song is the end of it. A gentle kiss on the cheek for sticking things through to the end. A bittersweet thank you towards any who have followed the adventures of Tim and what he's blessed the world with during his life. Building up your mind on his other songs, eventually leading you towards this obscure masterpiece that only few have been lucky enough to experience. This song is the one that tells you that you've won, and thanks you for it. Thanks Tim.

The greatest injustice of all of history is the fact that this song, this album, this man, and his legacy is celebrated as little as it is, and has been. The thought of it all makes me feel a whole range of emotions. But in the end, none of that matters.
I am so extremely grateful for ever having had the pleasure to discover and to enjoy such beautiful music... It makes it all worth it!
Thank you Tim... We love you so very much!

I share the same sentiment. However, history ain't nowhere near over yet and that's what keeps me optimistic. Many exceptional people throughout history weren't recognized as such during their lifetimes.

Agreed. And if not globally, at the very least he is someone who should be recognized (and praised) within the musical community!

Yeah, I'm not sure about "all of history" lol, but this guy deserves so much more recognition. Possibly the greatest living musical genius.

I'm somewhat proving your point by not replying to this for a full year, but..
At least the fan base, however limited in numbers, more than makes up for it in sheer devotion. I don't know if I've seen a group of people more united in their unbridled adoration of a single human's work in all of pop music. The closest in which I can see a fledgling of the same reverence is maybe in Jeff Mangum (who, maybe not coincidentally, also specializes in music that is simultaneously joyous, devastating, cacophonous, and awe inspiring).
If Cardiacs were tainted by showing up on the radio in between ads for McDonalds, it would reside firmly in a realm which it otherwise totally transcends. Too few know it, but those who do are transformed by it.

Until now I never wondered what it would sound like if Tim Smith wrote the soundtrack to a SNES RPG, but now I know the answer to that question, and the answer is, predictably, that it would be awesome.

Kavus Torabi: "For me, Swimming With The Snake is the not only the most beautiful, heartbreaking, otherworldly and psychedelic song Tim has ever written, it's the the most beautiful, heartbreaking, otherworldly and psychedelic song I've ever heard by anybody.
Something absolutely not of this world happens during it, as if the very laws of physics have been changed and some part of 'a world beyond this one' has been allowed to leak in.The whole piece seems to shimmer with a wordless universal truth that I can't quite put my finger on."

      All worlds collide and shatter
      Over my head beautiful
      All alright
      No worries
      All matter
      A jewel a jewel
      Hidden writhing electric
      Water electric water
      Neon water pollen smoke cascade
All she upset in my spirit
      Bursts my eyes
      Bursts me all
      Every part and strain
      To juice my life
      To lose all my
      to lose my brain

All for every her every over
Every over every thing and all

    Here comes the snake
Down from Heaven and up from Hell
    Over my head
    Beautiful in the River's wells
Gives me everlasting sight in her world.
    Flat headed Earth worm
Says I'm so beautiful I burn her
Held with both hands and ride
    Her body understands
In the waters of her world I am I am...
    Swimming with the snake alive
All we ever do is die
Swimming with the snake as I
Ever want to do is die and
    reincarnate like one of you.
And she pumps air in my spirit and
Blasts my eyes with her tongue and coils
Gives me everlasting sight in her world last.
    I never lost my eyes.
And she pumps air in my spirit and
Blasts my eyes with her tongue and coils
Gives me everlasting sight in her world last.
    I never lost my eyes.
    And I love you
And I know you can't love me there too.
Can't hold her hand to ease the pain inside my heart.
    Drowns me
    out of depth
    Over my head
    Over my head...
And she pumps air in my spirit and
Blasts my eyes with her tongue and coils
Gives me everlasting sight in her world last.
    I never lost my eyes.

Still probably the best song in the world. I'm here. The generation of slag and rot. Not all is lost to history, I, just springing into adulthood, shall present this to my children, and to their children it too shall be presented. There is a whimsy on the air that can not simply be put down as forgotten, for it is logged in the canal of mind, shared and spread, like any great tale. Music is an expression, and for most of the common now-a-days, it is an expression of hideous wealth, affair and of little substance. Those like Timmy are those who surpass common slag, and through their visions, ascend past themselves, providing a ripple through time that lasts eternity, and even through the after.

I think the snake is a metaphor for a rope and this song is about suicide. If that were the case then it would be the first of Tim Smith's lyrics I actually "get".

@@marinaorgan589 Yet I always wondered.. All of Tim's music seems to be permeated by thick layers of existentialism while the man himself on all accounts was a likeable and joyful human.
