If this is in fact true, I'm on the fence because I can see it from both points of view. I understand that he is Sikh not Muslim, but why should his faith exclude him from being properly searched like the rest of us? (note: I understand the delicacy of this topic and do not mean to offend anyone)
As Sikh and a person who has both a Dad and a brother who wear turbans, I can say that legally, it is a civil rights violation to ask someone to take off their turban if he has passed all other security checks without any red flags going off. In Waris' case, he passed all security checks (including being checked with a wand, a pat down, and swabs on his belt and bag) without any problem. There was no reason to ask him to take off his turban.

When you go through security you're identified by the guards as just another person they have to search, it's not like they know you and know that you will do no harm.
He requested for a private area to take off his turban and they refused his request. essentially, in the Sikh Culture, it is considered humiliating if you take off your turban. It's like any other clothing attire but considered much more holy. If you were asked to take off your pants/underwear in front of strangers(including TSA and random passengers) would you do it? I can understand your perspective but it's important to have context as well.

On one hand it is important to be understanding of people's religions / cultures and be respectful of them, but as a security guard you have to somehow balance being human while being thorough and cautious. If anything disastrous was to happen beyond that point, the blood would be on their hands, and that must be an extremely tough situation to be in. I'm sure Waris is an awesome guy but I read on a few articles that he wasn't allowed to board the plane because he refused to take off his turban when going through airport security. Although I thought it initially sounded unreasonable it wasn't long before I actually agreed with security, it's not a "race" thing at all, as Muslim or not, Sikh or not, a member of ISIS or not, he could have had something hiding in his turban. When you go through security you're identified by the guards as just another person they have to search, it's not like they know you and know that you will do no harm.
He requested for a private area to take off his turban and they refused his request. essentially, in the Sikh Culture, it is considered humiliating if you take off your turban. It's like any other clothing attire but considered much more holy. If you were asked to take off your pants/underwear in front of strangers(including TSA and random passengers) would you do it? I can understand your perspective but it's important to have context as well.

On one hand it is important to be understanding of people's religions / cultures and be respectful of them, but as a security guard you have to somehow balance being human while being thorough and cautious. They have the ultimate responsibility of ensuring that each passenger is threat free and therefore safe to board their plane. If anything disastrous was to happen beyond that point, the blood would be on their hands, and that must be an extremely tough situation to be in. I understand that in Sikh culture it would be considered humiliating, hence why earlier in this comment I sympathised with the man, and I still do, truly. But if you try to put into context the amount of time security has to check each individual vs. Taking Waris to a private room to take off his turban, it's just not doable.
