  • How to Make Your Hibiscus Bloom Again - Here in this video you are going to find my top secret to force Hibiscus to bloom again. Whenever we grow Hibiscus plants in container, fertilizing and watering only not enough. Instead, there is another most important thing that we need to do on a constant basis and that is Pruning. So, if you are wondering how to prune Hibiscus plant, you would find all the answers in this video. Please also note that, pruning only the branches is not enough. We also need to prune the roots. However, if you can upgrade the size of the container, it's okay even if you don't prune the roots.
    Here in this video you are going to see how you can prune your Hibiscus plants - both branches and roots. I have also shown the final result and my plant did an amazing job :-) It bloomed extraordinarily well and I hope you would like it. So, if you expecting lots of blooms on your Hibiscus plants this season, prune your plants now as it's the best time.
    How to know when to prune your Hibiscus plant?
    Ans: If the leaves or the flowers are getting smaller on your Hibiscus plant, it means the plant is rootbound and you need to prune your plant - both branches and roots.
    Good luck and please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you for watching the video :-)

    last year i came home to find a dying hibiscus on the terrace. it barely had few leaves and the stem was very sick. i took it out of the pot and pruned the hell out of it and repotted in a new mix. I was happy to see many blooms on it when i returned this year, it looks the same variety that you have in this video.....but the plant wasn't that bushy, so did some branch pruning and i've got more buds.....

    I have been using the azalea food pellets as hibiscus fall under the same family and it’s 4x the size as last year and I can’t even count how many buds have popped up. Might check into that as well. But mine is planted in front of my house full sun, and I water it everyday and keep an ample supply of food pellets for it. I can’t wait for the buds to open

    I have a hibiscus tree that is actually three different hibiscuses braided together. I planted it in a large pot and then planted small hibiscus plants around it. I give it potash. I’ve found as it gets hotter (in the high 90’s-100 degree temperatures, it will not bloomed unless I water it at least every other-if not every day.

If you want to do, you can definitely do it now. Because Hibiscus plants are going to produce new leaves from Spring onwards. Most of my Hibiscus plants are almost sleeping now..ha ha..waiting for the Spring & Rainy season :-)

    • @GardeningUpbeat
      @GardeningUpbeat  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Fusics Creation, Thank you so much for your feedback, much appreciated. Since your plant is not blooming, definitely you can do this or you would need to fertilize your plant. Hibiscus needs fertilizer at this time as it's the growing season. I already have a video about the Best organic fertilizer for Hibiscus and if you are interested, you can watch it here - th-cam.com/video/5cWdxOnCAAA/w-d-xo.html
      To get rid of Pests, you can use either Neem Oil or Chemical pesticides such as Rogor or Roket. For Neem Oil dose is - 5-6 ml Neem Oil + 4 ml light hand wash and then mix them in 1 liter water. For Chemical pesticide, Max 1 ml in 1 liter water. I already have a video about applying Neem Oil and here is the video - th-cam.com/video/yVRy0NokUhc/w-d-xo.html I hope, that helps. Thank you :-)

      Well, Google is rich.. they have loads of big spaces where they have tons of hard drives to store all the data LOL. But yea, it's mind boggling how so much of data gets stored.
      Still, stupid issues like posting of several duplicate comments shouldn't be occurring. Some kind of bug.
      Also, earlier when I used to post comment from mobile, I could use the scroll function to see the comment I was replying to, because for a long comment, you need to see it several times to see what to reply to. But, with the new update, you can no longer see or scroll the comment you are replying to.. if you have to, you have to discard your reply which you were writing. That's really stupid.
      There are several annoyances like these which shouldn't be there on such a big and popular network.

      @Pratima Pankar, Thank you for your feedback and sorry for the late reply..here are the answers -
      1. We can do at anytime and even in Winter if temp doesn't go below less than 10 degree Celsius. But, best time to do is the Feb end to April
      2. It won't as I have shown in the video and I do it quite often with my plants as they are with me from last 5+ years. But just after pruning and repotting, please avoid keeping the plant in under direct sunlight for next 3-5 days at least.
      I hope that helps and if you have any questions, please let me know. Happy Gardening :-)

      @Vidyasrao rao k, I do at anytime whenever I see I need to treat my plants :-) But, it's a good idea not to prune the roots when the plant is actively growing. Actively growing means, it's already getting all nutrients from the soil. So, if they are not growing well, you can do it now as well :-) Anyway for Hibiscus, Summer is the growing season. I am very reluctant to use sprays since I accidentally poisoned myself some years back when spray was spilt on my hand. Someone suggested diluted dishwashing soap. Is this a viable solution and if so what dilution? Are there any other suggestions? My problems are thrips and mealybug mostly. Hoping for an answer... many thanks.

    Thank you for this very informative video. How to maintain the dark green glossy leaves of the hibiscus plant sold in the nurseries ?

    • @GardeningUpbeat
      @GardeningUpbeat  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Barb Lee, Thank you very much for the feedback, appreciate it :-) The dark green glossy leaves fade away when there is lack of Nitrogen in the soil. You would see the change in 10-15 days if you use just 10-15 grams of Mustard cake powder surrounding the pot :-) In many nurseries, mostly Urea (foliar spray) is used to maintain the dark glossy leaves. No need to use Urea at all...if you fertilize your plants timely, plants would be happy :-) Here is one video showing how I do it - th-cam.com/video/5cWdxOnCAAA/w-d-xo.html and you can see the results here - th-cam.com/video/vd0C6n_Ro3w/w-d-xo.html Thank you and let me know if you have any questions :-)

    • @GardeningUpbeat

      @Pradip Saha, Thank you So So much Sir, appreciate it. Since your other plants are blooming well, I don't think that you are not taking proper care and you are doing everything correctly. Since the plant is not blooming, I suspect problem is in the soil. So, if possible, provide it a fresh soil and can also do bit pruning (roots).
      Plant has only one stem, so, wouldn't recommend to hard pruning like I did. But definitely you can prune the very top part and hope it would produce new branches. EPSOM Salt - It provides the Magnesium to plants. Magnesium is required to give leaves their green color and it helps in photosynthesis process. If there is any deficiency, the leaves start to look light green and veins remains green. Often happens when growing plants in container. I hope, I answered your questions. One request - I would appreciate if you don't call me Sir, thank you :-)

      It's great that they are growing well and bushy too...definitely they would bloom very soon. It's bit early actually and many varieties start to bloom well from April end-May onward. They need proper temperature to bloom well. In fact, mine are not blooming completely at this time as it's early. Getting just few blooms here n there..

    • @GardeningUpbeat
      @GardeningUpbeat  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @pema Lama, Thank you so so much Ma'am, appreciate it :-) We can do for Bougainvillea but they bloom well when there is not much space for the roots to grow, I mean when they become kind of rootbound. If we provide them more space to grow then, they focus on growing like a vine and less flowers. That's why in nurseries, we can often see Bougainvillea blooming well in small container (mostly the tissue cultured variety). They also use bigger pots too, but in most cases those plants are quite old and so costly. I am working on Bougainvillea too and hope to get success :-) Thank you once again :-)

    • @canoslo6126
      @canoslo6126 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can dig the tubers after the first frost and save them over winter that way. There are instructions online on how to save them, but I had the best results putting the tubers in a box in the basement and accidentally forgetting about them. Murphy's Law. Lol

    Very nice video, small and informatie. Please tell me when can we prune our hibiscus plant? i also see your pot is too small. Is it possible to grow in such a small pot? Or what should be the Minimum size of pot? Thanks in advance

    • @GardeningUpbeat
      @GardeningUpbeat  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Sharad Sharma, Thank you very much Sir for the feedback, appreciate it. For pruning roots, best time to do when the plant is not growing actively. And so, we can do in Nov-Dec. But we can prune the branches at anytime of the year. Whenever we want to make it look bushy, we can prune the branches. You can prune the roots even now..but plz be bit careful and avoid doing it in extreme hot day. The plant would get a big shock as we would prune the roots and because of that there would be less water supply to the plant.
      It's very much possible to grow in pot like that...but using bit bigger container is better. For small container, we need more maintenance. Having said that, small container is easy to manage whenever we need to carry and need to do some fixing (like this) :-)

    • @sharadsharma678
      @sharadsharma678 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GardeningUpbeat thank you . Is it necessary to prune the roots every year?

    • @GardeningUpbeat
      @GardeningUpbeat  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Sharad Sharma, Depends actually...like I informed in the video, we have two options - 1. To increase the size of the container 2. Pruning and changing the soil and we can do this whenever we see our plants are struggling. For most Perennials, it's better to change the soil once in a year or at least once in a 2 years to keep getting the same result we get just after repotting for the first time. It's the actual truth...but many hide it. This is another reason why I grow seasonal plants as well. Thank you :-)

I tried replanting with garden soil, vermicompost and cocopeat mix in place of the pure garden soil and used stick fertilizer also. Time to time, mealy bugs treatment also still, no flowering. Last week 3 buds popped but fell down easily. Can you suggest what to do?
