Health equity and health equality

  • If you're a public health or global health practitioner or studying an MPH then you'll want to incorporate the idea of health equity into your thinking. Inequality is the idea of an unequal distribution of something. Inequity however is an unequal distribution that is a result of some sort of systematic unfairness in society. Health equity is about trying to ensure that everyone has equal access to the services, facilities and environment that gives them the best chance of being as health as possible. This forms the cornerstone of public health and global health.
