I just got academically dismissed from my University, and I literally feel like my life is over because this was the one thing my parents were looking forward to. To be honest, college was never my plan. I really tried, but I just had no interest in the major I was studying, but I just did it to please my parents. I come from a family that is very proud of our accomplishments, so if they ever found out that I failed college, I would become a disappointment in their eyes. All the time, money, the effort put into my education were all wasted because of me. I feel devastated.

Same. Come from a family of successful people and knowing that I am the bad egg out of the batch really hurts. I just feel like I'm dragging my last name through the dirt.

Don't ever do something that you don't feel led in your heart to do, in some cases there's no other plans or ideas besides college but don't waste time anymore unless you have that drive or you feel that it is for you afterall

That's exactly what I'm saying! my parents didn't take it well and are now comparing me to others who are thriving and graduating from college. I hate it. I want to go back so bad now that my life depends on it. But I don't know what to do. and how I'm supposed to do that?

I just found your video and I think it's quite inspirational. Thirty-three years ago, I was academically dismissed from college. I eventually returned to school, earning my BS and MS in Education, and now I teach mathematics at the college that dismissed me! I have earned teaching excellence awards, and I am passionate about helping students who have failed out (or are on the verge of failing out) to turn their ship around. Thank you for what you are doing! I wish you success...

It IS possible to bounce back. I was readmitted to my university this semester and I've had all A's on my exams. Surround yourself with uplifting people. Failure is a lonely journey but can be fixed. I struggle with anxiety, depression, and panic attacks so I adopted a dog. My dog, my boyfriend and my family are the ones keeping me above water. Have friends with similar interests whether it is academically or professionally career related. Removing the small negative aspects in life and replacing it with positives has definitely helped in me changing everything in life. Remember that you can't just get a 4.0 in a semester so don't beat yourself up. But with a change in lifestyle, your decisions, and a better mindset, things can change slowly but surely. Take everything day by day. Life is not over.

i was academically disqualified (first time) from my first university two years ago. it was a painful reality. i have been at a CC improving my GPA and getting my credits where they needed to be. Going to CC was the best decision i made for myself. i’m currently applying for universities as a transfer student, and graduating next year. everything happens for a reason, this journey was definitely not easy for me. i hope i get accepted and that disqualification from my first university can be used as growth in my new application. bless you all. you will be okay💗

I feel like my life is falling apart after messing up my first semester so bad and getting the news that I have been dismissed today. The people I met at my college have changed my life and have become family to me.
I thought I was gonna be on probation, but no. I just feel like a complete failure and I'm scared that I'm never gonna see these friends again. I was so scared of losing another group of friends that I neglected working sometimes so I wouldn't miss out on being with them, and ironically, that ended up being the reason why I may lose them
Now I can file an appeal to get back, but there's no 100% guarantee that it'll work. I'm praying so hard that I can get back and be with my friends again and finish my degree so I won't be stuck at a grocery store for the rest of my life. It's gonna suck being held back (I'm assuming) and having to repeat classes, but even that's better than never getting to be there again.
I'm trying to think positively but struggling so hard.
EDIT: I've been accepted back and so far, I think I'm doing a lot better on my schoolwork!

man, I remember watching this vid precisely around this time last year crying and being depressed because I was on the verge of being academically dismissed. Fast forward a year after dealing with both academic prohibition and dismissal, and now I'm going to be finished with my associate degree in 2 months, and my GPA has been improving like never before. The point of the matter is, to try and never give up hope. If you don't try to give in your dismissal letter, you'll never know if you will get back in or not. And chances are, there is a 90% chance the university will allow you to get back in. And if not, there are way more options to choose and succeed in life. Like going to a different college, or even doing trade school, etc. YOU ARE NOT A FAILURE IN LIFE REMEMBER THAT. YOU WILL SUCCEED ONE WAY OR ANOTHER I PROMISE!!!!

I just found out that I have been put in academic dismissal. First year in college and I get put on academic dismissal.I’m so sad and angry at myself about it. I feel that I have failed myself and haven’t tried as hard as I should’ve when I couldn’t. Since the pandemic have started, it has been very hard to learn through a computer screen. My college is suggesting that if I want to be re-admitted to the college, I will have to go to other higher educational college and I don’t want to do that. Only because this college have given me a full-ride that I feel I have completely destroyed and I knew from the jump that this school will be the best to help me reach my future career goals. I don’t know what to do I don’t want to be enrolled in another school, I don’t want to lose my full-ride opportunity, what kind of advice can you guys give me?

I know this is 2 years later but I still feel the need to share my story. I just took my first semester in college. It was ok, during the semester my hardest classes were biology and chemistry. At the end of the semester I ended getting a D in Chemistry and an F in a GE class. As for biology I am still unsure if I passed, I sincerely hope I did. This has made me cry so many times and I feel like I let everyone down. It was a hard semester. I am not sure if this means I am on academic probation. I know i will have to retake chemistry. For any of you out there with a similar situation, you are not alone:) people fail all the time, especially in college. What is important is that you move on and correct your mistakes.

I transferred out at the start of Covid shutdown so it was a really difficult time to focus on my studies. i decided to go back this semester but was dropped from my courses due to missing a financial payment. again this made me feel like a failure. its difficult being compassion with myself when there are so many expectations from my family. I feel like I have nothing and I'll just be riding the rails for the rest of my life. I'm looking into taking a trade now but my major has been psychology like you and I was only in my first year. Now I'm either going to get a trade and make good money then go back to school or try to take one or two classes until I can hopefully get it reinstated. Crazy how the same government who refuses reparations to our people has the audacity to also refuse aid even if this is a second or third chance. Anyway, I'll try to come back and update if my life doesn't continue going down the sh**er.

I'm planning on finishing community college and finally transferring to a nice University to pursue a degree in Business and marketing as well as computer science. It was just so much going on personally that caused me to mess up in school, and me actually being a sharp kid I was devastated when I got put on academic probation/ suspension. But I'm never giving up on my dreams, plan to graduate by the fall and get out of there for good. Thank you again!

I went to a big university on a baseball scholarship. Baseball is all I cared about. I started in Accounting and got a gut punch my first couple semesters and was ready to quit. Talked with a wise bud on my team and changed to Marketing. Best thing I ever did. For me, the first year is the hardest by far. My suggestion is to find help and don’t give up.

I just checked my grades and learned I had been academically dismissed and I was only in university for one semester after transferring since I started in the spring semester rather than the fall. I went to community college before and I struggled hard with classes I wasn’t fully invested in. It also didn’t help me when I went to university that I took classes I thought I could do and did well on assignments but exams brought my grades down a lot. Especially in Chemistry and Chem Lab as the assignments, in class quizzes and homework were no problem. Around exams though, despite studying my mind would go completely blank. I changed my major at the end of the semester after finals as I felt the major I originally wanted to go into (Biology) wouldn’t work well for me.
Apart from passing English and Math, I failed Chemistry and History which ultimately screwed me over.
Overall I am even more scared of telling my mom about my dismissal, even though I am certain she will find out eventually, and feeling like I am bound to disappoint her and my family as we made a big deal about me attending. Especially when the university I was attending was one of my first choices that I wished to attend. I started my semester off great but then exams kicked in and I was doomed for failure. It most likely didn’t help that I only had one semester instead of two to improve.
I know this video is old but I need some advice about where to go from here. I don’t think I can qualify for an appeal and have to wait another year before I go back to university or attend a different college.

I god an academic suspension years ago. Came back this year and after going into financial aid twice a week for months they didnt tell me about the suspension until the very last minute...Went through all the steps of the appeal and just found out that the dean denied me...For something that happened years ago...Under a different major. I cant afford to get tuition in less than 15 days and I have never been so close to just...being so angry in my entire life. I want to go in there and raise hell...But I know full well if I do they'll just call security. I'm lost.

I went to college from fall 2012- spring of 2016 and graduated with my bachelors degree in psychology. I have a learning disability so I had to re-teach myself how to study. I was put on academic probation my first half of my freshman year because i got 2 c's and 1 D. i was able to repeat the course i got the D in and I brought up my GPA to a 2.7. then by my sophomore year my GPA went down to a 2.6 because I got a D+ in another course due to health problems. then the following semester, I got an A, A-, B+, and B- with a semester GPA of 3.5. My GPA was up to a 3.0. and then i replaced the D+ with a C+, and then my GPA improved a little but not much also due to health. and then i got a whole bunch of B grades spring of my junior year, and then my senior year I got nearly straight A's with a B+ as my lowest. My final GPA ended up being a 3.25 and I will be going to graduate school this fall :) The academic advisors at my university were actually the faculty in my department. I met with my academic advisor every week of the school year up until I graduated! she even provided me with a letter of recommendation because i took her class and i was her advisee for all 4 years. She was the most supportive person all through undergrad and was the reason why I tried my very best all the time even when I was at my most stressed mental state. I owe practically everything to her. :)

How about starting a support group. Talk to college counselors. Attend part-time if you need to for a while.
Ask for help. Keep asking. Exercise your body. Get plenty of rest, and talk to God.

At the end of my sophomore year I was nearly kicked out of the university and kicked out of my major for low academic performance. I was a math major and had a D in Differential Equations and a D in Calculus 3/Multivariable Calculus in my sophomore year of college and I flunked General Biology* with an F (I failed the final*[If you fail the final exam, you fail the class regardless of your performance]) in my sophomore year. I switched to Economics as my major in my junior of college and turned my GPA around and graduated with a C+ average and graduated in 5 years. But, the reason why my GPA was low was because I took challenging classes (e.g. one year of General Physics and one course in General Chemistry, one Accounting class and one Finance class, General Biology, Calculus 1-3, Linear Algebra and Differential Equations, one course in Computer Science, etc.). Plus, I am a terrible test taker. I do well with homework and projects but not with tests. And Economics is not an easy degree nor a tough degree but I can tell you it is harder than a Journalism or Communications major. Currently, I work at an Insurance and Financial Services company but having a low GPA is not the end of the world. But, it hurts your chances of getting a good paying job especially if you are planning to work in Accounting/Finance or Engineering or IT.

Thanks for making POSITIVE reflections instead of the cliche arguments against college heard often on TH-cam.
At the risk of sounding arrogant or stupid, I have at many times been down probation road. However, most times I am placed on progress probation not academic probation. And while I have been on probation recently with a GPA of a 3.2, most probation periods was administered through the financial aid office. Ive only been disqualified/dismissed from a school once 14 years ago! 3.2? 14 years ago? Recently put on probation? Is all of this the biggest lie or troll ever? Nope, not at all! let me explain.
I tried school when I was 18. In fact, I tried 2 or 3 colleges in California, one in North cali and southern California. The third college I really did not attend as I only took a class and dropped it -- W grade-- no probation. The first college put me on probation. I left. The second one dismissed me but reinstated me. The first college put me on academic probation: cumulative GPA under a C. The second one dismissed me but reinstated me for progress probation: too many consecutive drops on transcript. This was 14 years ago. Now fast forward to 2012 at the age of 33 in a different state in a different college accreditation system -- not The Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (California, Hawai'i, the Territories of Guam and American Samoa, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, the Republic of Palau, the Federated States of Micronesia, and the Republic of the Marshall Islands) but The Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities, NWCCU, (Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, and Washington). It's litterally like crossing a border. When I do transfer, I will have to show my California transcript. But more emphasis will be placed at my community college in Washington where I have 89 credits and a 3.01 GPA average, a B grade. I'm doing much better but I have been placed on probation. It was not issued by my school but by the financial aid department. Financial aid's policy is twice as strict. You are allowed to be on financial aid probation for 2 quarters. If by the third quarter your file is not making progress, your financial aid is dropped. Mt school never put me on probation, just financial aid. You are placed on warning status, if you only complete 3/4 of your current term if enrolled 3/4ths time or more. No warning status for 1 class. If you drop, you could loose all aid. When it comes to regular non-achievement, the school doesn't penalize you based on your quarterly performance. For example if you took 3 classes in fall with each one receiving a 2.9 grade but took 4 classes in the winter quarter but drooped 3, the school would probably not place you on probation quite yet. Financial aid, however, WOULD issue you a warning since they measure things quarterly not just holistically. You could have a 4.0 and still be placed on financial warning for dropping 1 class and only completing 5 credits out of the 10 credits originally enrolled in at the top of the term. So that's how I have a 3.0 GPA, in good standing with the school, but always on financial aid warning! Holistically, I've only dropped maybe 20 credits out of my 89 credits I have. Hence, I am still in good standing with the school. However, financial aid will put you on warning just for a a couple dropped classes even if you are doing great holistically.
Did you take social psychology to fulfill upper division ge? Did you complete an AA or did you obtain a vocational AA instead of a transfer/liberal arts AA?
Background information (only if you want to read it). Most universities in the Pacific Northwest will give you junior standing with most, if not all, GE lower division considered to have been fulfilled if you completed a direct transfer AA prior to transferring. University of Washington Seattle is an exception to this rule as most students need an additional 30 credits of GE after transferring. UW'S GE, which is called The Areas of Knowledge, consists of a whopping 75 credits. Whereas Western and Central Washington University would have had considered such a student to have fulfilled all GE if the student obtained an AA DTA prior to transfer.
The California system of community colleges on the other hand do not really offer an articulation agreement between JC's and universities that has the same stipulation like that of JC's in the Pacific Northwest. However, JC'S in California have the IGETC. This not an AA degree. However, the DTA AA is an actual degree. Yet again, certification of the IGETC, for the most part, fulfills most, if not all, GE requirements for a UC. The California State University system (CSU), however, has no special package certification or AA degree stating you have fulfilled the GE requirements for all California State University schools. (Please note not all CSU schools place the acronym before the location like ALL UC schools do. For example California State University Long Beach is CSULB but San Diego State University which is part of the same system goes by SDSU.
For those with an AA DTA obtained from accredited school from the Pacific Northwest , a resident of Oregon or Washington will have a fighting chance getting into top notch schools in Oregon or Washington. In Fact, Eastern Washington will auto accept you if all classes in the AA DTA package are above to a 2.0. Additionally, community colleges will even apply a course with a grade of a 1.0 to a DTA! Most grades in Washington are numerical, not a letter grade. It also makes it easier to calculate a GPA. If you get 3.7 in Sociology, then a 3.7 is calculated into your GPA. No confusion
An A- on the other hand might be calculated using the lower number of the numbers, such as a 3.5. Some messed up system might even calculate all A's as 4.0's when calculating GPA! However, that would be kind of dishonest as a A- is clearly not a 4.0! It's usually a 3.5-3.7. Hence, it's kind of cool getting a numerical grade. In fact, if you were to go to the UW, they would have to convert all the letters into numbers! lol.
California will not auto accept any AA holder into their universities. The chance of getting to a UC is slim pickens and extremely competitive. Plus, California has a huge population. The chances of getting into a CSU is much higher than getting accepted into a UC.
    ok. I wrote too much.

Thanks for sharing. My backsotry is that I went to a community college to get an A.A.S degree in visual communication. When i transferred to UMD my initial degree was communications but had to take a few g/e requirements. This led me to take social psychology. It was this semester where i realized that communications was not for me and i enrolled in broadcast journalism instead.

I got readmitted but I was forced to change my major by my advisor. Is there any way I can combat that? She said since I've taken this one hard class 4 times she won't let me back in as a math major and I love math.

I got academic dismissed from one school for GPA drop and now I got a academic integrity violation at another school this week for plagerism and citation issues for my research assignment. Now I am scared of my future at this school if it happens again

I was dismissed from my teaching program because of a teacher I was working called me autistic after disclosing to her I had a learning disability. My learning disability is not related to autism. She reported me to the program that I said heinous things to her and they program believed her because she was a woman. I appealed to the program and department chairs and was still denied. I then went to a board facilitated by a few professors and students. I was readmitted against the program's decision of removing me. Though I was readmitted, I still faced retaliation from the department. I never looked at that school the same way again and never care to revisit it.

You remind me of Marcus from Watchdogs 2 :0. Also, guys, school can be tough. Don't beat yourself up if things don't go perfectly.

I got financial aid suspension and without aid I can't go to college. they want me to pay for at least two classes but I don't know when I will get my aid back. I'm scared cause my parents don't even know and they want to actually go to my college and ask what the hell is going on. I have the strictest parents in the world. so I don't want anything right now but to die.

I am going through academic crisis and it is not due to my actual academics. I am a person with disability and I rely on the bus system to get me to and from the University I attend. Throughout my college life, I missed so many courses due to lack of reliable transportation and my GPA drops lower each semester. I do not know what my future looks like now and I am disappointed in myself that I did not do well in college. Any advice on how I can turn this around? I have to take 1 class every other semester now because I can not afford to pay as a full time student.
