    I think I remember the very first time I ever "googled" anything was back in highschool when I was doing a senior project back in the fall of 2001. Since then, technology has come a long way, now it seems like google already knows what you want to find long before you finish typing it in.

    The WebTV had been built by a third-party company that was bought out by Microsoft. It came w/ an awkward remote, but there was an optional wireless keyboard available. Back in the day, my dad had one connected to his 19" channel-clunker "portable" set (his became a "WebTV by Microsoft" only after a firmware upgrade). His particular unit also had a PS/2 jack on it for a standard keyboard.

    I know it's almost 4 years since this video was posted, but I saw one of these in a thrift store for $13 and almost picked it up for nostalgia and a learning tool for my daughter in regards to hardware. I didn't because I wasn't sure if it worked still (probably not) and if it did, what was going to fail soon, like bulging/leaking capacitors. It's labeled as having a pentium 4.

    back in the late 90s, the only place i used the internet was at my dads office, our computer at home was antiqued for the internet (a 486 machine running 3.1, while it was probably possible to use the internet on it, it wasnt worth upgarding it), we later got a machine that could use the internet, my friends family had cable internet, in 1997, i was envious even though my parents could afford it, they didnt want to pay for it, it was pretty expensive, internet rates are a ripoff in canada today, and was worse back then

    Sadly we still sell stuff like this, dell has a laptop for 200 bucks, and have desktop we sell for 200 bucks as well, they dont even need a fan and the heatsink. I state there bad because we have 5 year old core 2 duos that benchmark higher then the 2014 celeron, idk why intel even puts out such cheap chips, and not even for tablets there desktop/laptop processors.

    • @Lukeno52

      Well, it's a tad unfair to expect a bottom-end CPU to demolish an older high-ish end CPU, particularly if the bottom-end CPU is clocked low, and the C2D is clocked high. Not everyone needs a powerful CPU; some people want lightweight and low-power laptops, and that one would suit them fine.

    • @ComradeRachel
      @ComradeRachel 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Inspiron 15, dell sells it for 249 we sell it for 199, ASUS K30AM-J-US001S $239 on b&h but we have it for 199 as well but either way i know im little bit of a poweruser, but just web surfing one tab no flash or anything task manager saying chrome using %70 percent cpu, and with flash it can get laggy little. Not so much low power its over half are the customers are sending back to asia or middle east to sell at a higher cost or to give to a family member, well i guess slow computer better then no computer.

    • @Lukeno52
      @Lukeno52 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      FrostyExchange It shouldn't be running THAT badly on Google Chrome; heck, even an old P4 system, which one of those would outclass, would be able to better that. I am surprised to see that the 1.3 GHz Pentium 967 chip in the laptop I use for lectures actually has a slightly higher benchmarking score, but there's not that much in it, and my system certainly doesn't tank like that with Chrome. I don't need a more powerful laptop because my desktop does that for me.

    i had one of these, I put a pentium 3 in it at 800MHz, It clocked it at 600, I played american McGees alice and quake 3 on it, I wish i can find another one, would make a slick mini ITX sleeper build, I loved how quiet it was, the heatsink it came with would prolly work fine with a few modifications, PSU should do just fine, but id prolly replace it. oh yeah, i stuck 384mb of RAM in it. and yoop, it came with a monitor and a mouse and keyboard with USB ports in it, the intel 82810 GPU driver update, if dell still has it added another 8mb of shared video memory

    Well, assuming that "curriculum" is used in the nominative case, then I believe that "curricula" would be the correct pluralization of this Latin word; the endings are as follows: Sing. Nom: -um, -i, -o, -um, -o; Plural Nom. *-a*, -orum, -is, -a, -is.
    However, "curriculi" is also shown because the second declension can technically start with '-um' OR '-us'. Hmm... so the English dictionary says "curricula." Okay--what I had originally stated. As an interesting fact, about 60% of English vocabulary is derived from Latin.

    This reminds me an awful lot of the mini-iTX AMD E-series based computers so popular in computer-illiterate households today.
    I'm not ragging on either mini-iTX or the AMD E-series, but mini-iTX was not meant to be a full-size desktop replacement and the E-series was never meant to be the muscle behind one's only computer, unless their needs were incredibly basic. Seriously, I've seen these chugging to decode a 360p MP4 or run the Aero desktop.

    • @Dantastic

      +brick brainiac Not movies. DVDs had just been invented at the time this came out. Everybody was still renting movies on tapes, and Windows 98 had no native support to play DVDs. That optical drive is a CD drive, and its primary purpose would have been to install software. Apparently this computer came with a printer, so you'd install the drivers and software that way. You could also have used it to play music files from audio CDs assuming that you had a media player installed.

I don't need absurd Flash animations and other eye-candy---just let me browse the web without having to use tons of my CPU. A person could browse the web just fine on an iMac G3, back in 1998... but no, it now takes all of its strength (in fact, it takes my PowerMac G5's utter strength) to load a web pages. Ridiculous.
