    This week, Joseph Goldstein outlines:
The mindfulness of feeling and discovering the nature of our feelings
How the tone of our feelings condition the reactions of our mind
The actions and karmic consequences that begin with a feeling
How pleasant feelings can condition desire and attachment
The way that neutrality can lead to ignorance
Maintaining a non-reactive mind to all emotions
The tendencies of desire and aversion
Labeling and noticing our feelings without attaching meaning
Clearly seeing the impermanent and ephemeral nature of all feelings
“Mindfulness of feeling is one of the master keys that both reveals and unlocks the deepest patterns of our conditioning.” - Joseph Goldstein

The sunlight is just beginning to penetrate the late October morning frost here in WNY. Simultaneously, your words bring light to my heart and tears to my eyes. Thank you so much for these genuinely gifted 🙏 missives...

    Truly enlightening.
From birth, we are taught to cling to pleasurable sensations, coupled with avoidance of displeasure. This talk is merely a teaching of non-attachment and how to achieve it. Attachment to anything bears pain.
    Thanl you

Is Joseph saying notice that changing feeling tones or the sensations causing the feeling tones? Or is there even a difference between them?

"The sound is just making sound. It's its job." Sooo funny! True! I'm deeply affected by the sound of chainsaws, terrified more trees are being destroyed. Lately i just.do what i can, find out who's cutting, make a case for the live tree or feel relief It's just deadwood fall being cut for firewood, then practice noticing the sound w/out freaking out. It's invigorating.
I still grieve this noisy barbaric kill-nature age ...but it helps wean me from childish preferences & despair.
One stumper that bugs me: We violate the precepts daily in a huge commerce market system of mining cobalt, burning up the last Asian forests for palm plantations, killing off marine life, water table, aquifer, etc...shuts my brain down to see it & my part in it all. Buddha & Jesus & Socrates didn't have this problem, but we were born into it. I plant trees & wildlife habitat, grieve & ask for help, but had to just accept this thorn in my side.
