Let’s talk about the Shopkick debacle 🤦♀️

- Well this was certainly not a fun experience! I wanted to share you with my personal opinion (and it’s just that my opinion. I have no facts about what really happened), my personal experience and a warning for any rebate users.
Beyond the issue itself, the "kicks" accounting has no visibility to this.
- The credit kicks still show.
- There is no "activity line"showing the reversal
- The kick balance is just lower with no traceability.
The should either show 0 kicks for transaction OR a negative kicks for the reversal.
The other concern is there was no email about this. It was only a notification that disappeared after 1 or 2 days. So if someone was not looking at thier accout for a few days, they would have no idea what happened. The activity still shows a credit, no notification (disappeared), but balance significantly lower.
Definitely part of the problem. There's no tracking at all for what happened except for folks who are diligent about taking screen shots and saving all that information. Zero accountability from SK and a lack of traceable actions on the accounts.

I bought eight Old spice deodorants for donation to my church so I can't return them. I decided to file a formal complaint with the Federal Trade commission, and also file a complaint with the better Business bureau even though the BBB can't really force them to do anything. I also filed a complaint with Procter & Gamble since they had a hand in this ... they made quite a bit of money off of deodorant that they otherwise wouldn't have sold. I just wish I knew somebody that worked at a television station so I can get this on the news because it affected so many people. I also left a review for the shopkick app in the app store on my phone.
Great video-showed a different aspect than others have & also you gave great advice regarding couponing & finances. It's easy to get sucked into the hype. I had decided for the new year to coupon with purpose, buying only things I would need, use or donate instead of chasing all the deals.
Same. I only coupon for personal consumption because it all adds up and mistakes happen, I'm doing low buy 2025 so really being careful with deals. I rarely use shopkick and swagbucks because their customer support has always been so shady and hard to get ahold of if something doesn't go right.
I feel the same. I have always donated half of my stockpile to a DV shelter but couponing can become an addiction. It’s all about balance, and I agree couponing with a purpose is a healthier way to live! 🙌🏼
Im so grateful as well . I saw your video Friday and went Saturday, did the deal got 50 deodorant and got credited on the 25th. I immediately cashed out to gift cards since that’s faster for me than PayPal. Got those used them to buy groceries as soon as I got a chance. Thank God they deducted 10 kicks only which is what I had in my account at the time. I never keep more than $5 worth on my account. And I also got the 5k kicks which is awesome since I had already gotten credited anyways. I’m just so Thankful to God.
I bought 5 Old Spice and got 8,500 kicks. I purchased a $50 Walmart gift card (I had other kicks to use) but I didn’t get it. It said, there is an issue redeeming your reward. Then they issued me back 5,000 kicks.
I definitely did the deal and got a tonnn of old spice. I gave a lot of them as stocking stuffers (we have a huge family- 40 cousins!!) and I donated some more! 😬😬 and did enough to submit to 3 P&G rebates… I took a HUGE loss along with a lot of other people. So disappointed…. Goes back to the old saying “if something seems too good to be true, it probably is too good to be true “😂 I was pretty upset the day they took my kicks away but I’m honestly over it now. Being super angry and wasting energy on it doesn’t help anything. Something I learned from you, my friend ❤

That is very upsetting! And yes being angry over it doesn’t help anyone. I do think a complaint is in order 🤷♀️ and saving your mental space and happiness is a huge win 👏👏👏👏

The bad taste in my mouth is because Shopkick acted really shady about the whole thing. Better transparency was needed

Great advice because I saw several comments on other videos saying they spent $200, $300 and one saying $450 on deodorant. People should definitely take the recommendation of not doing a deal if they can’t afford to lose that money because this could happen at any time. I bet all these Walmarts are wondering what is up with the thousands of returns on old spice 😂 and I’m actually surprised they allow returns on those.

I think also a lesson to not take of an advantage of a deal, only because it’s free or seems like a great deal. I think we all should be cautious when couponing. Never spending what we don’t have or can’t lose. It’s about saving money not losing it or spending it on items we can’t or won’t use. A lesson for all, I think.
Yea I'm really surprised they would take all that stuff back because I heard somebody say when they take it back they have to take it back as damaged and you know that's a loss for Walmart too probably.
You handled this situation the best out of any video I’ve watched. My OS receipt was denied and they did not offer me 5k kicks. I took it all back. I’ve been using SK since 2013 and never seen anything like this but it makes me wary to do anymore deals going forward😮

I’ve heard some people say they didn’t even do the deal and shopkick took back kicks from them. Totally shady!

Jodi a long time ago, you advised us to cash out of our rebate money immediately because of the risk of losing it. I took your advice to the heart and have always immediately cashed out. In terms of shopkick I didn’t lose much but did lose a small amount. I already cashed out most of it and took the kids to the movies

Thanks for the video! I'm glad it all worked out for you. I was one of the unlucky few who had Paypal removed as an option as soon as the 51,000 kicks were processed on December 23rd. I didn't even have to change my option for it to dissappear, I was prompted to pick a new giftcard option as soon as I tried to check out. Unfortunately for me, the walmart, amazon, and visa giftcards told me repeatedly that they were unable to be processed any time I tried redeeming them, until the 31st when all my kicks were removed. I gave some deodorant away, but luckily, I still have the bulk amount of what I purchased. I was worried about returning them, and then it appearing as fraud with the P&G rebate, so I'm glad you brought that up. I'm going to call them and see if they can cancel my Visas. This was definitely not on my radar as something I thought I was going to have to worry about at 9 months pregnant 🙈

I never cashed out and had 51,000 kicks retracted. Glad I never gave any OS away. I cashed everything out I could and now have 21 kicks left😅

I agree with you about not buying if you can't afford to make that purchase. This is why I didn't go crazy with this order. I wasn't finished shopping for Christmas and had the expense of family coming over for Christmas.

I ended up returning 20 deodorants. I’m not too upset because I make it a rule and my entire family knows this…we don’t use or donate any of my couponing items until I have received ALL of my rebates in case they need to be returned. What’s sad is that some folks used Christmas funds, grocery money or even bill money to buy them because they were receiving their cash back. I told some folks in my couponing group that this is why they should be recycling couponing rebate cash and not use personal household funds. Some were upset on my comment but this is a good lesson for many, including myself. Until the money is in your PayPal or bank account - it is not yours.

I agree. I have a separate little coupon bank account. That way it is not connected to Bill money or paychecks. My ibotta goes into this account too, rather than into the bill account. Sometimes it is hard when we see a deal to NOT do it. The separate account helps.me coupon within my means.

I have been waiting for you to talk about this! I appreciate you taking the time especially since you brought up the deal on your channel. I did the deal myself for only one deodorant. I got my kicks for it, cashed it out and was able to use the kicks immediately.
They’ve sent out 5,000 kicks to people who had their kicks taken and somehow I got some too??? So I got a free $20 gift card out of this and was able to get my original kicks and use them.
So glad you got a free 20. So sad they owed me 13,600 kicks and never got them. I also did not get the 5000 kicks that you got. I'm bummed out.
Oh wow that’s crazy. Yeah I had no idea it was happening. Just in my own little busy world and received all my money so I had no idea there were issues 😂

Great video Jodi! I completely agree with your theory of a reason why this happened! Of course there is a proper way to handle things and Shopkick did not do that! Their users actually may not be so furious if they received accountability and honesty from them. Shopkick has always had a great reputation because of their customer service. However, that has unfortunately failed now. I do remember that underwear debacle with Walmart! I was going back and forth with SB discussing UPC codes vs styles and sending pics etc, it was drawn out and I ended up having to return in the end. That must be the bad taste I have in my mouth for them and didn't know/remember why. Happy New Year!

I’m heading g a lot of ppl cashed out and had their gift cards they cashed out taken back. So cashing out in this instance didn’t help. I honestly think they shut down the PayPal cash out option cause they couldn’t take that $$ back
I’m sure it was a manufacture issue, however what Shopkick has done since is horrible.

Hi Jodi! I did the deal an hour after you posted the video Friday night. Had my receipt submitted by 11 pm CT that night, it took until the 23rd for my kicks to be awarded, but all were systematically awarded. I was hosting my Dad’s birthday and Christmas and had company until the 26th and didn’t realize my kicks were awarded til then. Unfortunately, I only cashed out part of my kicks then. On Monday I was at CVS and needed a gift card so I switched my default from Walmart to CVS and they instantly removed all my remaining kicks from my account. I was absolutely devastated! I lost way more than $20 (5000) kicks as I had been doing other deals. Both Shopkick and PG are at fault and in my opinion this was definitely not handled in a professional, corporate manner.

Cashing out for anything during a part of that entire debacle was not an option for some people. They froze those options and then took the kicks.
The craziness is that I now have rebates for them in Ibotta.
Jodi! I am so lucky to have done the deal (I only got like 6 deodorants). I ALWAYS cash out immediately (because I don’t trust these apps) and I cash out to target gift cards always because I do my grocery shopping there. I was able to cash out immediately and I my gift cards have been used since then! I understand why people are frustrated for sure though!

Jodi, the case was not that we didn’t cash out. Shopkicks awarded them kicks, shut down PayPal and even gift cards. We could cash out. Then reversed the kicks awarded
You must not have reached the point in the video where I talked about cashing out your PayPal.
I have seen some say that they didn't even participate in the rebate yet still had kicks taken.
I didn't do the OS deal, so my SK account was fine. I don't trust those rebate apps, so I would never spend over my budget of the most $30 or less. I can get deodorant at WAGS and CVS for almost nothing to free, so I didn't see it as worth it to buy. These apps deduct points and money at any time so that money I take out as soon as I can cash out. I feel bad for those out the money, but geez that was soo much to have spent. Like even if I wanted to have spent that kind of money, that is not something I had readily available to spend and wait to see if I got it back. I was like man they're rich lol. I hope they are able to return them and get their money back. I personally am still going to use SK the way I have always (cautiously and budget friendly deals).
I never knew anything was happening, but if you can't afford it, you shouldn't buy it regardless of kicks given back. People need to stop using rebate apps to expect them to be money maker.
I was one of those charmin individuals. They still have yet to send the coupons. 😂
The only option people have is in the terms and conditions. Arbitration is the only option. People can try to sue, but that will fail because the terms of usage of shopkick is that you give up your right to sue. Anyone looking to do arbitration would need to go to the terms and find the arbitration section. Sadly, there is no recourse other than that.

Jody, you gave some good advice. I think that you are right. P&G probably backed out of the deal and that left Shopkick in a bind. The whole situation is awful!
People that didn’t even do the old spice had kicks taken away, also they changed their terms they can take kicks away at anytime or reduce them.

I’d been awarded the kicks 13,500 - then I saw on TH-cam that people were getting their kicks taken I quick checked my account and they were gone. I’d already submitted for the pg rebate and didn’t know what to do. Anyways I said What Would Jodi Do? Thank you so much for the video, I glad it worked out for you and I was in Walmart on the 26th and I still had my kicks I could have used them that day, but didn’t. I think I’ll just return if they will take them, I have all those circled on the receipt for the rebate 🤦♀️. Then call pg and tell them to stop the visa. Oh they did give me 5000, I didn’t have many kicks to start with mostly just the OS.

The thing with the Shopkick deal they wouldn’t even let you cash out. You could see the points, but it wasn’t letting us cash out.

I wasn't a part of any of this, I didn't do the Old Spice offer. I didn't change my reward offer either. That's what got my attention, I received a email that I was close to cashing out on a reward. 🤔 I was like hmm..I'm not anywhere close to cashing out. So when I opened the app. my PayPal was no longer showing as my goal to work towards. When I went to put that option back it wasn't there either. I've since then deleted the app. & won't use. If I can't trust you to hold my money, I'm not giving to you. Glad it all worked out for you Jodi 🙌 and sorry to all those that were effected by this. I hope you all get your money back.❤

I didn’t realize this was happening either… just was busy with Christmas. I did the deal once and received everything and cashed out to PayPal and a Walmart gift card. No trouble with either. It’s crazy that a lot haven’t received their kicks I’m so sorry for them ❤

Michelle at myownIDENTITY said something in a video that stuck with me, and applies to this Shopkick reversal. She said couponing is gambling. Sometimes it works out perfect, and sometimes it doesn’t. If you can’t afford to gamble, then stay out of the stores. When I turned 21 my dad told me gambling should be for entertainment only. You decided how much you can afford to spend and when that’s gone you’re done. I lost money on this deal like most, but I stood in the Walmart and made a conscious decision on how much I could afford to gamble with and stayed in that budget. When the money was reversed I was mad, but then basically said l “well I lost that hand, better luck next time”
Yes, that is a great way to look at it. I got $4,404.00 of product free for my household in 2024. I came out making $251.00 even after I lost 34.00 in the old spice deal. I had gotten 54.00 worth but got 5.00 on fetch and hoping I end up getting the pg rebate back. I did not return the old spice. I put in a ticket to try to get the 5000 kicks that others got but haven't heard anything back. My rule for shopkick has been to only use it if it's extra coming back for a deal I am doing anyway but I deviated from my rule and got bit.🌞

I've been super busy with work and using up my vacation time. As such, I have done a fraction of the couponing that I normally do and I did not get to do this deal. So, fortunately, I was not impacted. Amen to that!
It is still important and great that you shared this information with others. I can totally see where a newer couponer may have tried this deal out, this debacle happened, they felt helpless, and now they feel defeated.
For anyone out there who was impacted by this mess, I am truly sorry. Please know that this is something very abnormal to occur. Couponing overall is still a great, fun activity to help you save your family money. Please do not give up. I promise it gets better.

I bought 5 old spice and submitted my receipt on the 22nd. My receipt was pending for a week then it was said the receipt couldn’t be read-which was incorrect as it was clear as day. I submitted a ticket and didn’t get a response for another week. I returned the old spice, cashed out my little kicks, spent my gift cards, left a one star review, deleted my account and app. I’m done.

I went all in and bought almost every deodorant and 5 each. I was die 98,100 kicks. It accepted the receipt no problem. Showed that i was to get 98,100. Took over a week to process. Then said nothing was on the receipt. So ridiculous! I will be returning all of it. I did cash out all of the kicks though. Def. screwed 🤬
Return them as soon as you can. Some people were saying their walmart was not allowing the return. Hope you get your money back!

I received my credits right after they pulled PayPal, I had a weird feeling about it, and told my husband I was going to do the Visa option instead because I felt like something was going down. And I’m so glad I did! I had already given a bunch to my family for Christmas. What a crazy situation! It’s one thing to say hey we aren’t going to credit these because we overdid it. But to take them away after they’ve been credited is so sketchy!

I did a 1 star review in the App Store. I’m taking back the deodorant. And I’m taking back a dove holiday kit I got after Christmas and got 1500 kicks for. Then I’m done with the app. I’m not even redeeming the 5000 kicks they gave me. I feel like if I did I’m saying I’m okay and accepting their “apology”.

I had Money taken away that had nothing to do with old spice, it was from other products like barilla. And they voided gift cards. I think if p&g were to blame shopkick would have said so. Thank you for your videos I love them

@when I started hearing people couldn’t use gift cards I checked the balance, and it said there is a problem try later, then I went to Walmart and tried to use it and it said something like try another form of payment.
If it was their fault, shopkick saying that would be putting themselves under an even bigger bus to point that out and possibly lose any further business with them or their subsidiaries. Shopkick is owned by a large company that probably also has other dealings with P&G as well. However, they need to explain something rather then nothing. They still haven't even pointed out hey we took your kicks for... Just oh hey we gave you 5000.
@@kmagenta I agree, we need a better explanation. I really liked using shopkick, it took a lot for me to delete it but I feel I need to for now. The other thing I was Leary about was putting my ss for tax purposes? Sorry I did that now

Billion dollar companies are so cheap.
It is just sad for everyone involved. Although app is free, I think there should be regulations. If you shopped at a business, or used a coupon, I think you would have resources to get the problem corrected. Did Shopkick put out an explanation? This should be mandatory to explain what happened. I always hold products until money in bank. If not, product goes back to store. However, I’m afraid stores are going to not want all these returns coming back. I think “more to come” concerning this. I actually thought it was too good to be true. But I had to wait til Sunday the 22nd tonget there. I bought 10. 2 reciepts 5 on each. I didnt have the money tonput out for more and it took me quite a while to go through the bar codes. They never gave me my kicks. Recieved a denial on the 26th. I put a ticket in, but they still denied. In the meantime I was trying to cash out tonpaypal for $10. from other items I had purchased. It kept sending my kicks back. So, finally I did the deal at CVS on the vital peptide. Still couldnt cash out on paypal, so I just cashed out on a Walmart gift card. I returned 5 of the old spice. Returning the rest as I try to hold the items and reciepts until my rebate goes through.
I fortunately has issues in the past and removed my money the day I got it. However. I did a Huggies deal and lost 800 kicks which I know isn’t a ton, but still. I was more upset they took my Huggies deal which had nothing to do with my old spice. I am grateful, but I def disagree w this.
All of those "little" kicks that they stole from you add up over time. Sorry this happened to you.

Personally didn't do the deal. Your theory about the manufacturer not wanting to pay out is pretty spot on. I did the other hit deal on Dove Hand Soap at Walmart and thise got credited to my account within 1 day and I cashed out. No kicks reversed and that was a hot deal. Dove is a Unilever brand so guess there was no issues with them vs Old Spice which is a P&G brand. I now fully blame P&G. Instead of completely not using Shopkick, instead I will avoid all P&G rebates via Shopkick since they clearly aren't paying out to them
Yeah all my receipts were approved kicks earned and they took them away, and absolutely all deodorants back to the store

AND OMG I stopped using swagbucks too for that same reason I can't believe you remember that I use inboxdollars instead. But I feel bad for the ppl that lost money from shopkick. I bought five and sent in my receipt. I got my kicks a few days later and got a Walmart gift card. I have not had kicks removed from my acct. Lucky for me.

I did zero old spice. The offer looked too generous. My crew likes axe. I was attempting to do the get 50.00 get 15.00 at Target. The febreeze plug was taken off the shelves. Target at 5.00 coupon. So I could not put it in the deal. I have only had issues with shopkick. I submit a ticket.

This is the first time that I’ve heard this happening since I’ve used shopkicks which I have lived until now. My receipt never got approved after waiting a week but I had purchased 10 old spice and gave away 5 ad Christa’s gifts so this was a small loss iof $18 for me. I did get the $20 from shopkicks and $37 from returning the other 5.

I never did the OS deal out of laziness. The personal care section is on the opposite side of the household and grocery items at both my local Walmarts and I didn’t want to walk all the way over there! So I remain unaffected. I will be more wary of Shopkick in the future, but as of now I don’t plan on deleting the app.

What happened with the people who lost kicks that didn't even do the deal, I just don't think I could ever trust shopkick again no matter how great the deal was.

I’ve seen lots of people’s comments who did not buy old spice and had their kicks taken. And others who did it and were fortunate to redeem their awards are now being retroactively charged back for it when they try to do new promotions.

I bought 20 of the Old Spice deodorants, split the sale, 10 on one receipt and 10 on another and used 2 different credit cards and shop kick rejected me saying my receipts were identical but they were absolutely not. I returned all of them back to Walmart because that was too much money for me to spend since I donate everything I get couponing.

Same thing happened to me this year! My receipts had different scents, different time stamp and obviously different transaction number....was told it was the same receipt 🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️

The only thing about taking things back. They get thrown away because Walmart can’t resell it. That hurts the manufacturer and not Shopkick.

Jodi I noticed that the amount of shopkicks stated on scans doesn't match to amt. given. Example, on my acct. Bleach is giving 400 kicks and when you click on it to scan item it only shows 300 ...on Walmart. It has been giving less kicks more often, they're tricksy I tell ya.
Their app has an issue where it clears up and shows things correctly if you clean your SK app cache under Settings--Apps--Storage.
