I especially liked the segment in this video where you addressed the issue of renaming the poinsettia to the cuetlaxochitl. I'm also in favour of renaming things whose etymology is rooted in imperialism and racism, but I feel that the cuetlaxochitl/poinsettia debate is full of faux wokeism. Sure, it's nice to use and acknowledge pre-colonial language, but I totally agree with your stance that simply changing what words we use isn't _actually_ doing the work we need to reconcile with the Indigenous people. It's a step in the right direction, absolutely, but it fails to acknowledge the larger issues of colonialism at hand. It reads to me like a band-aid solution to a bullet-hole-sized systemic issue- like saying "we care enough to use your language, but not enough to put effective change into action." You've made a very salient, intelligent point that I wholeheartedly agree with.
I’m so allergic to these flowers that I can’t even walk passed them in stores. Now I’d like to imagine I’ve just been allergic to the capitalism the whole time ;)
…Also, this video is INSANELY good?! It seriously deserves WAY more views. This is really well researched, the build-up throughout it is incredible, and this is a more personal thing but as a bit of an ecology nerd the section on Juan Balme kind of hit so well. Literally yelled “THAT’S not right” aloud at the part about how he wouldn’t even know about Bougainvilleas
this is a fascinating deep dive!!! absolutely love your level of research here, its really satisfying to see the layers being peeled back to reveal a core truth hidden by nonsense and lies. very well made
only just starting the video, but as a nahua person with a bit of an idea on the story and someone currently living in mexico i'm very interested to see where this goes!
The disclaimer to mario 3d world ice level music is insane whiplash.
and his name is Young Mario
Ok but is this mainline?
