There are so many memories from them making this video. I was an MTA member so we had live stream access to them making this video. When they would take on a cover or "resurrect" an old song that only had a demo they would stream in segments hours long so members could see the process. It was awesome! We would see when vocals record, drums, guitars, everything. It was really a masterclass and Danny (the one singing in this) would teach about equipment and setups. All the while, we'd also just see the band being brothers. Just some background on this song in particular, something family-related came up with Tom, so he couldn't come. They were already set to do some sort of cover in the studio, but as soon as Taylor Hawkin's death happened they had decided it would be a Foo Fighter cover. Also, Dougie (the bassist with the long hair) plays guitar because Danny had just hurt his fingers in a football game I believe. Harry (the drummer who is sitting with his eyes closed) decided to not play drums on purpose in honor of Hawkins. The whole thing came together seamlessly. Danny's vocals were completed in one take. It was an emotional recording session to be honest. This live stream had a lull about it. I'm glad you got to hear it. I think it's a beautiful tribute. P.S. If I remember correctly there was a whole break with the chocolate fingers and trying to use them as straws to drink tea. It was funny to watch. If you're interested in them as a band. I recommend their "All About Us" documentary on TH-cam. It talks about their journey and how they made a comeback in the pandemic.
I find it really satisfying when people come to appreciate how good McFly are! I’ve seen them live several times and they never disappoint, such good energy but also brilliant musicians as well. Danny is fabulous in this cover, I was getting the goosebumps too and I’ve listened to this loads of times! 🎸🪐
It was a conscious decision to have this be so low-key and with no drums. They recorded this very soon after the death of Taylor Hawkins so you were bang on!
Danny has a real good ear and an amazing vision. I love when he smiles like that because you can see what he’s thinking. I don’t think he knows just how musically remarkable he is
