Believe she was 11 when sung. The one thing you (all) should note is the feelings she puts into all of her performances. She was aware of the meaning of this song at this age. Many who listen to music do not have an understanding of the world and do not care. I do not know how this child knows what she knows. Watch her expressions and you will see a soul crying about humanity. Would that our leaders had the depth of the person she is and still becoming.
Everyone who listens to Courtney has their favorite songs of hers and rarely is this one mentioned in most people's list of favorites. However, accompaniment aside to which I make no judgement, I absolutely love Courtney's performance of this song. I may be the exception, but it definitely makes my top five of her pre-AGT performances. As a matter of fact, I listened to this 3 or 4 times in the car just tonight. Whenever I hear her sing this, I always have to go back for repeats because once is never enough.
Courtney's grandfather when questioned has said Courtney got into soul / funk rock music on her own. She is a great fan of James Brown, Aretha Franklin, Little Richard and others. She saw James Brown on youtube and how he used the whole stage which helped her in her street busking. This has given Courtney her unique sound.
Really glad you reacted to that because it's a song you obviously know backwards and forwards. I'm so attuned to Courtney and her voice at age about 11 that the piano just sort of disappeared in the background; I always consider age in context of an evaluation. No doubt with a more professional set up and Courtney's continued maturity certainly it would be even better. But you have rightly characterized the unique quality of her voice, and I think she can't help putting her own spin on any cover. Hopefully her album will be out very shortly, and we'll be able to hear her own originals.
You are so right about the piano , I feel like it was throwing her off . I hope it wasn't a family member because I feel they shouldn't be allowed around her again !!!!!!! I was there in the 60"s and this young lady has Motown and Rock joined together like I've never heard !!!! God bless you and God bless Courtney , I pray she has good people around her .
That’s an older performance by her. If you look at her recent covers she did from the studio while working on her new album, it’s like night and day. She’s gotten so much better. Especially on “Sign of the Times”.
I agree The way the music Pianist did this was so off even notes were wrong too. You are so spot on truthful reaction liked this a lot. Big Like from the UK. I think Courtney was ten or eleven when she did this song.
I agree 100000% with your assessment of the piano in this song. While she was singing. I kept thinking this little girl with the big voice needs a big band behind her. Listening to Simon ruined her chances of winning AGT, with his, "don't change a thing" comment. This girl can really sing and she should have showcased how big her repertoire is, rather than get pigeon holed in to the "rocker" image.
The piano leaves a bit to be desired however Courtz is the light of amazement, like you reaction and your honesty in saying exactly what you think. Thanks once again for a good honest reaction.
Yes you're right. I would love to hear her sing this song now, with good session musicians. Please check out all I could do is cry by courtney ( etta James song)
I agree with you. I don’t know if the pianist is the same person, she uses,if it is I don’t know what happened, but it was not up to Courtney’s standard. I just love her singing and her performances. She is a true star that’s going take the world by surprise.
I don't know of any singer, of any gender that age that knows who these great artists are, and can so successfully tackle Sam Cooke, Etta James, James Brown, Janis Joplin, Otis Redding, Tina Turner, and so many more greats. The piano sucked, no doubt about it. Courtney is one of those singers that used to be referred to as a "blue eyed soul singer" though I guess that term is no longer PC. Although I've quite enjoyed the songs in her cover sessions, I can't wait to hear the real Courtney when her album comes out soon. Always enjoy your reactions, your facial expressions are priceless - and you're honest. If nothing else, I hope people watch this reaction, or the original song and really listen to the lyrics
Terrible! A much younger (2016) Courtney. Not ready to take on that song. Maybe in a few more years. BUT SHE SLAAAYEEED ‘Sign of The Times’ (VEVO live recording) in that small studio setting (along with the other 3 songs there) She will be a Superstar 💫 in near future. Portland Oregon USA 🇺🇸
Not a great fan of some of her early stuff myself, but you have to remember she was only 11 or 12 at the time of this recording and was only just finding herself. She's only 15 now and look how far she has come and progressed. Change has come and she will only get better.
Agree Drama. That piano was horrible! Remember, too, she was only 11 or 12 when she did that cover. It's like you said in one of your other reactions: You heard her "Old Town Road" cover she did at 15, then had to go back for her AGT Audition, "Hard to Handle" when she was only 13 and you can tell the difference in quality because of her age. The natural talent is still there, but it's MUCH more polished at 15. Likewise, reacting to her at 11 or 12, like this video, is going backward: You can still hear her natural talent, but it's not polished like she is now. To that end, would you please, PLEASE, react to her "Sign of the Times" cover she released a few months ago? Here is the link: th-cam.com/video/x9Phi6Yrg2k/w-d-xo.html You will definitely be impressed. THANK YOU!!!!
I think she's a very talented young woman, but...frankly this was a bit embarrassing. It really felt like it was something someone else chose and arranged; seemed she was often lost...kept looking around...maybe at the piano player who wasn't giving her the right kind of support? It's just not a good song for her style but I do think she could have done it much better had she had decent accompaniment.
TERRIBLE !!!! In my opinion Courtney’s best song to date is the acoustic ‘Sign Of The Times’. In my opinion Beth Hart has the best COVER of ‘A Change is Gonna Come
I haven't heard Beth's but I bet she could do it. I'll have to look it up. As I said in my comment, my favorite is Afro Blue on Season 3 of The Sing-Off.
Certainly Courtney isn't for everyone, and if you asked Courtney fans to give you a list of Courtney's best performances, I doubt you would ever see this one on that list. Every artist has less than stellar performances, and with that awful piano, this was Courtney's IMO.
Agree once again Laurance. I'm just not a fan of this song for Courtney. Too deep for her at that age for one, among other things. She wasn't ready for this song IMO at this age. Plus not a fan of the song itself. If I wanted my buddies to listen to Courtney for the 1st time, this is not a choice for me. Nor is Born to be Wild as a 1st choice. But hey that's just my opinion. I'd have gone for a MJ cover or Elvis or Aerosmith for her younger years, and James Brown or Tina Turner or the The struts covering "Piecen of my Heart" at AGT year. So many others of her covers are more what Courtney is about. Every singer has good and bad song choices to me. I even heard Angelina not do as good as she can on certain covers. Certain styles don't work sometimes for certain singers.
@@bertpainter8385 Exactly! There are 4 Courtney's IMO. 11 year old Courtney with Aerosmith, The Jackson 5, Etta James, Jessie J., Elvis, Alanis, etc. and then Voice Kids Courtney with Tina Turner, James Brown, Jennifer Hudson, and the Best of AGT Courtney, as you said, with the Struts, then of course the current Vevo Courtney, who to me is 11 year old Courtney 2.0. I believe Courtney MUST combine all of these into one package to have a great career. This song and accompaniment are the outlier.
I dont know I still dont like it. I know I'm gonna get ganged up on again but I keep watching your videos about her to give an honest chance it's just not for me
This Girl is Destined to carry Rock n Roll into the future!!

agree , she could do it much better now, looking forward to -Pretty Little Thing -on champions . FYI , enjoyed your tribute very much.
You are so right.💥
For her age,I dare say that anyone can top her in anything she does!! She was born to sing and entertain!!
You've been following Pentatonix through the third season of The Sing-Off. Look up Afro Blue singing this song the same season. It will blow you away.
Well said I agree with you on that it would be totally different now

Don't forget about Angelina Jordan. She grew up singing the classics and is also a young star with a huge future in front of her.
Agreed

Piano was brutal. Some brass maybe would have been better? To my ear, and I’m not a singer and never will be, some of those low notes were off.
Thought she was only 12 years old as she do that. Is there now any question about her amazing talent?
Courtz must have been only about 12 years old then,
Take the piano 🎹 out an it would be a good tribute Just Sayin
Agree Drama. That piano was horrible! Remember, too, she was only 11 or 12 when she did that cover. She would have sounded so much better without the piano. I couldnt listen to all of it because of the accompanist.
I also didn't think the accompaniment on the previously reviewed video (someone you loved) was balanced with her voice either...
I think she's a very talented young woman, but...frankly this was a bit embarrassing. You are so right ,,,l cant stop watching that video her singing sign of the times ,,absolutely amazing her best
The piano was awful. It was tinny and had no depth Her vocals were great but hard to separate from the piano
THANK YOU, that's all i was trying to say!
@@DramaSydETV Its a must for you to react to her singing Harry Styles Sign of the times ,,,really think its what you're looking for from her,,,amazing
Her handlers should never have allowed this to see the light of day.
Agreed
She was 11 or 12 years old and you can see where she was learning. And she had places that she blew the roof off. The piano was horrible.
Yes she's got a powerful voice but I'm like you on this the accompanient wasn't the best

This is awful. I really like the latest things she's doing but this is out of tune and the piano is truly dreadful. I can't listen anymore sorry 😱
Confirming what I thought. My hearing has been damaged so I don't trust my ears so much these days. But this thing clunks.
@@carty43 she's much much better now😁😂😱

This is old and she was young. Definitely not what she is now. This was a bad song choice.
No it was not. She did it very well and did her why. The sound or pianoplayer are mybe not best. But her version good.
