Bodycam: 19-Year-Old Wearing Police Gear Arrested for Impersonating Deputy, Pulling Over Cars

- In a shocking case of impersonation, a 19-year-old Tennessee man was arrested by Oklahoma police for allegedly posing as a sheriff's deputy and conducting unauthorized traffic stops in January. According to the Oklahoma County Sheriff, Jackson Jones was caught dressed in full police gear, including a vest emblazoned with "sheriff," handcuffs, knives, and a duty belt complete with a flashlight. However, Jones had no actual authority as a law enforcement officer.

Multiple witnesses reported that Jones exhibited alarming behavior, acting as if he was on official duty in his personal KIA sedan. He is accused of aggressively pulling over unsuspecting drivers and subjecting them to questioning during these illegal traffic stops. Jones' dangerous charade was ultimately foiled when he was taken into custody and slapped with charges of impersonating an officer as well as transporting an open container.

I spent almost two years impersonating a sheriff, 1 carried a gun and a badge, tracked suspects and investigated many crimes. I never had any issues from the police and the community was nothing but happy when they saw me.

You may be on to something. There is surely some psychological issues here that need to be addressed. He hasn’t convinced me of the ignorance he portrayed.
These types of people are all amongst us. Many go on to become true policemen. Sometimes their desires manifest themselves before achieving their goals. This dude is delusional. The ones that do make it to be a policeman have the same issues to be concerned about.
My wife does admissions for the police academy. She gets a lot of people who come in wearing full tactical regalia like they are already police officers. There is a mental exam one must pass in order to get admitted to the academy and the examiner doesn't look fondly upon people like that.

I would say he was rather nervous. He kept saying “I’m not trying to cause any problems” over and over which is usually what a guilty person who just wants to leave says. Also, when the cop asked if he had a gun, he said “no” and then says “no, you can search the car.” He mistakenly consented to a search trying to prove a point. If he knew his rights better that might not have happened. Unfortunate for someone to be this lost trying to look like something or have false sense of power rather than working diligently to become something.

What job could you have at a jail and not be familiar with the booking and bonding process? Most people know you are only in jail for 24 hrs at most until getting bonded out. Unless you cant afford bail or have no bond.
Even if he had a pay stub I wouldn't be surprised if he was a janitor or some kind of manual labor.
There is no way you wouldnt have some kind of card/ID while working at a prison.

When the officer stated "first chance i get the uniform comes off"....that is a sentiment shared by everybody who actually wears them. I was a volunteer for the Sheriff in Southern California we were NOT allowed to wear any of our uniforms or anything that said Sheriff outside of time on duty PERIOD! This kid is up to something for sure.

Anyone can wear “sheriff” on a shirt. The first amendment protects you there. It just cannot elude to you being a commissioned peace officer.
I’ve been in LE for about ten years and have never wanted to wear anything that signifies my role outside of work in the first place. For me having “look I’m a cop” on me without a radio or people running accountability checks on me seems incredibly dangerous.
My ex is a police officer. She was only allowed to wear her uniform when she’s off duty all need to drive to work and drive home. She was OK with that. I’ve never been a police officer. And she said the uniform and all the equipment after a long days work she looks forward to changing her clothes. We had two children at that point. I told her I don’t care about your uniform that gun belt hast to stay at the precinct. Anybody who has kids know that no matter where you put things like that the kids will find it! She agreed. If you ask any police officer, they will tell you that all that equipment is cumbersome and not comfortable. Taking all that crap off at the end of your shift is welcomed.

@@karensanders8061 It says online that Campbell County Sheriff’s Office said he no longer works for them and they would not rehire because it’s not the first time he’s been stopped for impersonating an officer. It didn’t elaborate anymore from what I read.
It’s very scary what this kid could have done. It was stated that he was very aggressive during these “stops”. Who knows what real reason he was out on back roads doing this. Super scary.

Two years ago a friend told me a stalker in her hometown impersonating police reached out to her father's employer(school) to tell the HR that her father was under investigation for a crime, HR of the school almost fired her father. Luckily the school Dean sent the security video to the police department, and found it was someone who hated her father hired a guy impersonating police to damage her father's reputation. Anyone impersonating law enforcement officer can be very dangerous.

These are some of the scariest people. The disconnect this kid had was chilling. He knew what he was doing in his own fantasy world and that world doesn't play nice with the real world.
I think he was living out of his car and he told them he was pulled over a few times in two different states for wearing the uniform. If they didn't arrest him he would continue doing it.

I’ve never heard of any law enforcement agency that doesn’t provide their sworn or unsworn staff an employee ID. It’s scary to know that there are folks in this world that wear the uniform and pretend to be law enforcement personnel. Be safe out there folks.

This is EXACTLY why Police Officers MUST UNDERSTAND when people get scared and want to pull over to a safe location to pull over when being stopped
What you must understand is that many ppl misuse that action and will drive for miles while passing countless safe locations.
Your definition of 'safe location' may be totally and unreasonably 'over the top'.
Any good officer knows what a reasonable safe location is.

The law works by what a consortium of REASONABLE ppl would do, NOT what YOU in particular choose to do.
Reasonable ppl will see that you passed 5, 8, or even a dozen or more very safe places to stop, which would then be ruled 'not reasonable'. That's how the jury system is supposed to work.

Sort of, a sheriff is an elected official whose main duty is to ensure the law is upheld within a certain county. They can also appoint deputies to assist with their duties. Police officers ensure the law is upheld within a city. Both are law enforcement, the biggest difference is essentiallyjust their jurisdiction.

I work in law enforcement. First thing we do after our shift is take the awful, uncomfortable vest off as soon as possible. Really, this kid is nuts. Some people just like that attention. Many of us are the opposite of that.
Only people who HAVE to wear body are know how much it sucks and can’t wait to take it off 😂.

My dad is a retired LEO, when he was off duty he would do everything in his power NOT to look like a cop, most real cops like to keep it low key, he would even tell people that he was a bus driver to anyone who asked what he did for a living, no off duty cop would drive around asking for this much attention

Funny thing, I've worked around cops now for 20+ years and can usually spot an off duty officer a mile away. They can take the uniform off but can't turn off the room scanning/body language/etc.

I didn't see the part of the video where he said that but technically all of those things could be true. I'm not defending him because something is definitely menacing about his actions. I'm just saying that's a weak argument. What if his mom just moved up there, he visited before, he just happened to meet a girl and start going out with her and he's visiting again before he moves out there?
What’s crazy is there’s a lot of kids that are overly eager to make their way onto the force and act out like this. Some of them never get caught and make their way into the job. These cops handled this very well.
I walk a dog in a neighborhood next to mine, and there’s a house there with a teen (probably late teens maybe early 20s) who has a 2015ish red Corolla that had lights underneath the front fender, a scanner and speed radar box both visible on the front dash, a 4ft tall antenna on the middle of the trunk, and a spotlight magnetically connected to the hood in front of the drivers seat. Very suspect to me, having watched plenty of these police impersonators and knowing what to look for. About 3 months later I saw him getting out of the car with a PSA uniform (public service aide, they help cops but don’t have arrest powers). Funnily enough, the lights under the front wheels, the spotlight, and the scanner and radar boxes were gone lol. Who knows, just thought it was interesting.

I've never seen someone with a badge and a gun on their vest that was labeled the sheriff's department that wasn't impersonating police.

Sociopath is a little harsh. The kid wanted to be a cop and whether it was his ability to get into college or the academy, something was stopping him. Otherwise he wouldn’t hesitate to take to proper steps to become a cop. The human brain don’t fully developed until around 25 years old. I honestly don’t think he was out there looking to hurt anyone. He just wanted to feel important. Unfortunately his immaturity led to making poor decisions and has cost him any chance of doing it the right way.
Diagnosing someone as a sociopath is a little more involved than watching a TH-cam video. I'm getting so tired of people distorting the meaning of words. It makes accurate communication nigh impossible. Genocide, terrorism, weapons of mass destruction -- so many words have been usurped so that they no longer mean what they were supposed to mean. Just like -- someone committing a crime does not make said person an automatic sociopath or psychopath or whatever other long-distance diagnosis you people wish to make. I mean, who needs a Ph.D. in pscyhology when there's TH-cam.
