I do still enjoy seeing them live, but '01/'02 AFI put on some of the most memorable live shows I've ever been to. Blows this out of the water, no question. The energy was unreal. Helped that they were playing mostly stuff from Shut Your Mouth-Art of Drowning. Wish they would play more of the classic Nitro stuff at shows like this
Saw them at Fireside shortly before releasing Shut Your Mouth. And in '02 at the Metro with Rise Against and Death by Stereo, then twice that year at Warped as well (pretty sure it was '02, possibly '01 though)
Saw them at Warped tour many years ago...was pleasantly surprised, not being a true fan but loving the performance I saw...great energy and crowd. One I will never forget...🦇
He’s going black out like a lot of people are these days. I think they think it’s a “cool” way to cover up ones they grew out of lol. Ronnie from Falling in Reverse is another example that comes to mind.
God keep the work fun and keep the work good and keep the fun rsal and keep the work okay and keep the sound real and keep the process running smoothly and keep the business running okay and keep the work looking good and keep the social looking good and keep the work looking okay and keep the social running good and keep the social alive and keep the social real and keep the social real and keep the social real and keep the social real and keep the social real. Amen.
We always mock people for having their phones out during a show; but thanks to this dude I just got to watch AFI perform somewhere I wasn’t able to get to myself. Thank you, sir 🫡
That shit was so cool. I absolutely loved the praise he gave to The Cure and what he said about Robert Smith. It was touching to be there and hear that from him.
Yeah a lot of their songs, especially since Sing the Sorrow, could easily be from The Cure. And the entire Burials album... that album is a secret the Cure tribute.

I know there's been different era's of AFI and some like certain eras better then other, but AFI's underground music from Nitro records was just as awesome as the stuff they put out with mainstream Interscope. For me, AFI is one of those bands that I like almost every era of the band. Personally I didnt get into them until around summer of 03/04 during the era when Davey looked like a chick lol. I kept seeing their music video for Leaving song pt II on Mtv2. Before youtube and when Mtv2 actually just played non stop videos and thats how I discovered new music or bands back then.. so I'd just leave mtv2 on in the background while playing the sims house party and I swear every like 15 minutes that video was being played on. Sing the Sorrow came out that year, so after seeing the video for leaving song for the hundredth time lol I bought the album. From there on I was completely hooked on the band from Freshman year to Jr year 03-06. When I hear songs like Girls not Grey, or anything from Sing the Sorrow, floods me with so many emotions and memories from that period of my life its crazy lol.
Couldn't agree with this comment any more. I think I am just a couple years older thank you, but Sing the Sorrow was the first album that I got into of AFI's and it is such a special album for me.
for a while there it was pretty jarring to hear him sing particularly the pre 2006 stuff after his surgery. but it really sounds like he's starting to get control back of his voice and he's much closer to the original register of AFI's sing the sorrow/decenberunderground era. great to hear.
AFI is still top of the list for me. The only band I would consider traveling out of state for. Thank you AFI for being amazing, and thank you Geoffrey for the excellent upload 👍🏽❤️
52:48 - I swear that Davey was pointing right at me and saw the World/Inferno Friendship Society shirt I was wearing. Please tell me he's an Infernite...RIP Cloth
Apt comparison since this band's gone downhill as much as modern day wrestling. Watching plebs sing along to Rollins cringe entrance or pretend to hate Dominic Mysterio was enough for me to stop watching that shit.
Wow, they actually sound better after all these years. The playing sounds more crisp than ever. Davey's voice gained a depth that makes him sound more like an opera singer, now more than ever. Absolute perfection. 🤟🤟🤟
45:48 days of the phoenix holy shit that pause and breakdown is one of a kind!! What an absolutely insane concert. AFI are the best band ever to see live. Unbelievable performance here. Fan since the late 90s!!
This is great quality! I love how much of a performance they still put on -- feels like I'm watching them back in high school, only with a lot more discography (feels like I'm the only one who actually wants to let them grow up too but, y'know, people have preferences). Also Davey's voice is aging WELL (not unlike everyone in the band, lol). Looks like he's waging war with the sound in the beginning but he sounds great.
AFI was my favorite band before I discovered APC. I had the pleasure of catching them at When We Were Young Festival last fall and then again in Philly like a few weeks later. It was lovely watching Davey perform in a room of like 2,500 people! 🤘
A Perfect Circle and A Fire Inside had a similar vibe when Mer de Noms and Sing the Sorrow came out. Both Davey and Maynard had the long hair. Actually, when Davey was recording Sing the Sorrow.. He has a poster of Maynard as an influence. 2 of my favorite bands.
The stage hand sure enjoys repositioning his microphone and stand...i found that comical haha They sound great.. and like other people have mentioned Jade is seriously a underrated guitarist.. the whole band is.
Hunter does not look like he aged a day! But Jade is looking like a lumberjack these days xD I still love these guys after all these years, but it's reminding that I'm aging too 🥲
I was supposed to watch a song or two from this video. Instead, I stayed for the whole duration. Davey Havok is simply put such a fucking charismatic performer. Not to downplay Jade, Hunter and Adam in any way, as they are one, if not _the_ tightest band around in rock music today. Davey is just out of this world, damn.
he's an alright guitarist at best...this is super simple stuff and he is still making plenty of mistakes. This genre of music can easily be played by beginners.
Thank you for recording their entire set. I captured some still photos from the right side of the stage, but stopped trying when I started singing. Thank you. 🖤
I used to be a big AFI fan when they were still punk. I haven’t followed them in years. Can’t believe Davey covered up the cool tatts he had on both arms with just black out. Lame.
It’s Riot Fest, so the majority of bands just play their most popular singles. Playing these big festivals kinda sucks if you’re not one of the 2-3 main headliners at the end. A short set time, barely any sound check, fast change overs, shitty monitoring for the band…etc. Plus, because there’s like 50 bands playing, you’re playing to an audience that is super diverse. There may be like 10% of them that are super fans, but everyone else probably only knows the big singles. If you want to see them play a more mixed catalogue, you’ve got to look for shows where they are on a big headlining tour and they get a full set list. Granted, I doubt they’ll play any of their first two albums because they were literally some pretty terrible “punk” records written when they were like 14. But usually they’ll throw in a couple from Shut your mouth, black sails, AOD…etc.
Unbelievable... wtf... he sounds like a diva now. Why would he change from his signature tone? Even the new stuff sounds off. Will always remeber the warped tour. Art of Drowning was the peak.
Has anyone seen Hawthorn Heights lately? They’ve hit an incredible low becoming a cover band while occasionally playing some of their songs. AFI however don’t resort to such nonsense inspite of taking a long Hiatus
I first saw this in 2008 and this completely exposed me to AFI, one of my favorite bands of all time. Years later in 2014 I finally went back and found “The Anime from God Called In Sick Today”. I’ve been watching anime since elementary school and Evangelion blew my mind. This one video was so influential giving me my favorite series and a top 5 favorite band.
Heard that! Don’t care for any of their “pop” albums/sounds. I get it people change, styles change, views change but you cannot beat their punk material.
God bless us and cheat way more. Amen. God bless us and God bless us. Amen. God bless my family and keep up the good work and keep up the sound of seperation and keep up the sound of love and keep up eating with the rich and eating with the war and eating with the real and eating with the realer and eating with the realest. The growl in the middle section of Miss Murder was so raw, different and flat out animalistic, it gave me the chills. Davey (and AFI) still are just amazing!
God keep the work cool and keep the work good and keep the food good and keep the sound real and keep the sound fun and keep the sound fun and keep the cool high and keep the high school and fun. Amen.
Damn after all these years Davey is still such a great performer on stage. This audio is crisp as hell
Tell me you never saw AFI back in the day without telling me you never saw AFI back in the day.
He’s also very healthy. He’s a great example of why America could afford to learn about veganism
I do still enjoy seeing them live, but '01/'02 AFI put on some of the most memorable live shows I've ever been to. Blows this out of the water, no question. The energy was unreal. i love this band man, 37 years old , i still listen to this song. thanks for this awesome video
Long time no hear. Davy still gots it!
That was fun to watch! Also, Davey's tatts are a whole new level
He’s going black out like a lot of people are these days. I think they think it’s a “cool” way to cover up ones they grew out of lol. Ronnie from Falling in Reverse is another example that comes to mind.
That lesbian has amazing stage presence 😂 love u Davey
These guys are so good live but I couldn’t get into anything since decemberunderground.

why neve the play, "the great dissapointment" or "death of seasons", "bleed black"
When did he cover his sleeves with that shit? :(
I love older AFI, but i thought Bodies was a great album. Surprised they didn't play more off of it.
God bless the mute and keep the real working. Amen. God bless and love. Amen.
Came here for the old songs, but nope
Damn, Davey is still a helluva frontman
This is not the same stage Corey Feldman was on lol
Sound quality on this is great, how did you manage that?!?!?! Thanks for recording and sharing for us, hope you had a great time!
We always mock people for having their phones out during a show; but thanks to this dude I just got to watch AFI perform somewhere I wasn’t able to get to myself. Thank you, sir 🫡
word! Ican’t wait until everyone has a a video recording device the size of a pin they can attach to clothes that record like 12 hours at a time.
I appreciate the fact that their set is NOT all dressed up with backing tracks! Raw and natural!
I was thinking the same thing... I luke being able to hear some mistakes and musicians having fun and not seeming like robots
100% agree - a human sound - its real and showing the hard work
This iteration of Davey is a fun one. He’s doing his own Femme Fatale Ziggy StarDust.
That shit was so cool. I absolutely loved the praise he gave to The Cure and what he said about Robert Smith. It was touching to be there and hear that from him.

@@Mike-ix5svNo Leaving Song pt. 2, that's the song that got me into AFI
You can hear a bit of Davey’s old voice coming through on Dancing Through Sunday.

I got into em when miss murder and love like winter came out. I was in college. Id stay up half the night blaring those tracks on my laptop on repeat
One of my fav bands all time PERIOD..
Davey sounds absolutely incredible
Singing in his lower register has done wonders for his voice
Elder Davey the goth-punk crooner is my favorite iteration yet.
for a while there it was pretty jarring to hear him sing particularly the pre 2006 stuff after his surgery. but it really sounds like he's starting to get control back of his voice and he's much closer to the original register of AFI's sing the sorrow/decenberunderground era. great to hear.
when the band members of bands you listened to in high school have grey hair... thank God I don't have kids to make me feel even older.

If you think about it Davey's current haircut is the exact inverse of what he had in 2000-2001...he went from party at the front to party at the back.
