I enjoyed very much! Miss Joann looked like she enjoyed her day out, too. Sweet lady and very knowledgeable, great memory. Y'all have a wonderful Memorial day weekend.💐
Hello from Knoxville. I enjoy your videos so much. I can’t get out and do anything like you are doing now. I miss it so much. Thank you for taking me along. Stay safe say hello to your family for me.
I do so enjoy your videos about family history and American history. I wish the old, old cemeteries would be preserved so that history is not lost to the ages. Thank you.
Todd, phenomenal video. So much history and family lineage. Really enjoyed Joann, what a lovely woman and full of historical knowledge. The cemetery section that was unkept was sad to see, but I get that resources maybe difficult there. Also sad that people would steal off sacred monuments. I also enjoyed your walk down to the crick, I am sure it brought back memories for you. Take care and agog Bless.👍👏👏
Glad you enjoyed it Twins. I agree about the plaques...not sure why anyone would want these around their house. Unfortunately they were installed so many decades ago, they can't be replicated because we don't know what they said.
Todd, Thank you and especially Joann for sharing the history and allowing us to visit the monument and graves. There is a fellow on line ,Robert Wright, from Georgia, who has Sidestep Adventures and the Old Byrd Farm, websites on You Tube. He visits old and forgotten gravesites and has cleaned Tombstones using a liquid that removes mold and other stuff without damaging the stones, it's called cemetery D2. If you wash off the stones and put this liquid on them, over a period of weeks or months it will clean them , make the writing visible and helping preserve them. Perhaps you or Joann could do that. Who ever stole those plaques was almost as low as the people who desecrated so many old plantation graves in Georgia, even digging them up or cutting down the old trees sheltering them, so sad. Thank you , Cheers, Rik Spector
Hey Rik yep Sidestep Adventures have a great channel and do great work. I would love to chat with them, but they are Georgia focused. These tombstones are being lost to the ages. I wish a group would adopt them and restore this beautiful place.
Fantastic video Todd. It is a shame about those plates being stolen. The one piece you found almost looked like part of a monocular telescope or whatever they are called. The other smaller item looked like a match safe maybe? Thanks for sharing!!
Thanks 👍 I believe the one item is a match box. I hope to clean it up better and take a look at it. I just haven't had time with summer coming and getting my yard cut and son back from college...and on and on....LOL
Todd Great video!! It's always neat to learn family history. That is better then finding buried history. I wish they would take care of the old cemetery. I'm having that issue with a city that wont let me do anything to clean up an area that has my great (5) grandparents buried. Thanks for the history lesson
You wonder why the city would take issue with you doing that Jeff when they themselves won't do anything. Shameful. It breaks my heart to see this old cemetery in its current condition. It is sad people stole the plaques even. People can suck at times...😆
@@AppalachianHistoryDetectives People can suck I agree. Stealing a plaque is really low. I don't know why the city wont let me try and clean it up. The graves are getting destroyed all the time. Mainly derelict kids that have nothing better to do.
Funny how earlier in the week I had went looking for your channel to see if I had missed any videos since it had been a few weeks & was surprised that I hadn't. Now I see that I'm a few days late on this upload. Great content as usual! I laughed to myself when you found the round item that you thought could have been a buckle & was going to comment that at least it's not a part of a pocket watch & then the next scene is your cousin holding one! 😂 I have to wonder if some of those Martin's are related to me somehow. Most of my paternal grandfather's (Martin) relatives are from Mayodan, NC; my grandmother's (Johnson) is from Rocky Mount, VA. I believe I've mentioned on another video that my maternal grandfather's (Moore) is from Pocahontas, WV around Marlinton & my grandmother's (Bell) is from Covington, VA. We still have property with a cabin in Pocahontas that I've been able to trace back to the 1850's. Haven't had the opportunity to go over to Bath County to do further research since the older records are kept there prior to VA breaking up. Anyway, great content as usual! Stay safe with any severe weather & have a great Memorial Day!
LOL crazy how many of those watch pieces I find. I no longer post weekly (post COVID) since I have gotten more busy in my job. The channel was becoming its own job and burning me out....I have to pace it.
I wonder if these Cochrans are the same family that lived near my childhood home. Near my home, near Connellsville PA, there was a wealthy family named Cochran. They owned coal mines and coke ovens, sold coke and coal to Frick and Carnegie. They built a beautiful church in Dawson, PA which is still in use and a mansion outside of Dawson which still stands named Linden Hall (currently an event center and golf course). There is also the Cochran Cemetery outside of Dawson.
Speaking of the first shots of the revolution. Some say the battle of Point Pleasant in theory should be considered the opening of the revolution. My 5x gg William Clay was one of the 1st to be killed there.
Point Pleasant should be recognized as the flash point of the first shots. I read about this in a book. Many of these forts along the frontier were hit by the Shawnee at the behest of England.
With all the vandalism of cemeteries and burials lost to time and no family still alive or in the area to care for grave sites it makes it much easier to cement my wish to be cremated. It really saddens me to know that people can think it's a cool thing to desecrate another human's resting place.
The American Revolution was really America’s first civil war.The colonists were British fighting the British. There are early references to a civil war conflict until it was later called the revolution. The original thirteen colonies were referred to as the confederacy. When we hear confederacy we immediately think of the southern states during Americas second civil war.
Todd, I posted a comment, went back to edit and expand on it and it dissappeared. I mean the entire comment dissappeared. Even our dog is confused over this. 🥴
LOL...it will show up Penny. I just got to my laptop and see you left a comment for the Caving video too, so maybe that was it? I haven't gotten to it yet but will.
True...I should have left her comments in rather than editing it out, but the comment was made in context to what she and us were talking about just before I turned the camera on. She has asked me to come back to capture a number of places before she passes, and her family's place was one of them. I met with her today even, and she is going through her collections to give to the museum. She is 85 now.
Interesting. I travelled over there today to spend time with Miss Joann and for her to watch the video. I may do a video on Pricketts Fort at some time.
That would be awesome! Captain Jacob Prickett, Sr. was my 7th great-grandfather on my maternal grandma’s side. We actually got to take a family trip about 10 years ago to visit many old family cemeteries throughout WV, where my grandma was born. We visited Prickett’s Fort as well, where we were given a private tour of the rebuilt Jacob Prickett, Jr.’s (my 6th great-grandfather) log cabin. I’m married now with kids of my own and would love to take them there one day! The older ones like to watch your shows, and would definitely enjoy a Prickett’s Fort episode!
So much could be said about these forgotten places and I can do more if you like let me know. I hope you enjoy....
I would love you to look into William Morris, first permanent settler of Kanawha County. Morris massacre, etc. thx!
Bitter sweet memories of those who came before, now eternally lost. Thanks Todd!
you bet....have a great holiday weekend.

Awesome video Todd. That was an absolutely beautiful setting with great historic information. The shirt at the beginning was pretty nice too!
Glad you enjoyed it Buddy. Go Big Orange!!!
What a pleasant journey into the past, Todd.
Hey Nick this fall I would like to swing up way and get enough footage for a good video. I will be in touch!
Great video Todd enjoyed the detecting but what are we going to do when all the old timers are gone love the history
By the way, I have found so many great tunes watching your channel. You do an awesome job blending them in with your adventures!
Glad you like them!
D2 to clean the gravestones, and a crew for raking would be awesome!!! Hopefully you can get it cleaned up some!
We are seeing if the Boy Scouts can take on this part of the cemetery. I plan on going back for some updates.
Todd another great video!. I live in the town where the last shots where fired and the British surrendered.
Oh wow! I used to live down that way....
Metal detecting is at its best as a preservation activity. Saving history one plug at a time!
Very intriguing!
Doesn't get better than this 👍
I agree! It's all about the history.

Maybe...Nathaniel Cochran was an early pioneer to the western PA region and this fort where he was shot was near the state line.
It never ceases to amaze me at the things our forefathers went thru to settle this country .
It was a hard life for sure.
