Carter is short for defensive end in the NFL. He’s only 6’3”. That’s very short for the NFL. Compare him to someone like Aiden Hutchinson he’s 6’7” Take McMillan over anyone he’s the next Mike Evans
Are you not concerned with his height? He’s only 6’3”. That’s short for a defense event. Just compare him to someone like Aidan Hutchinson he’s 6’7”. Most defensive ends are 6’5”.
I think Mike would take Carter but only if he can answer to Maronne about who and how they are going to bring in OLs. It looks like a good draft for OL even once you get away from the obvious picks like Campbell, etc. Then there is the FA card and we still don't know anything about who they have targeted at tackle. In the end I think they grab Carter if they can because he is a decade type player, not saying LT or anything, but along those lines of having a beast at edge that causes OCs to shit their pants.
the crazy part about that is how breer mentioned bill telling the scouting department "who did he guard in the pac -12" just for us to draft Gonzo a year later ,a guy who played his entire college football career in the Pac-12 at Colorado and Oregon.
Dont forget about mason graham. He is elite. Loaded dline class and mason was the only 1 that graded above 80 in both the run and pass rush. Vrabels comments about building the trenches means graham is on the board. He is as plug and play as it gets.
Hunter is a damn good receiver though. There will be injuries as well. If Gonzales goes down again, or whomever, Hunter steps up and there is no loss of skill at the position. I would at least evaluate him as a receiver to see if he's worth a number four, and buy into his versatility "just in case". Also, it just occurred to me that as far as a surprise weapon in a big spot, he could come in as somebody the other side had not seen or game planned.
The wondrous Commonwealth of Massachusetts is in the mix too. Right? The severity in Taxachusetts has a critical amount of greed/harm, affecting how players consider working for the Pats. It's tough to negotiate while the State has impact.
Complete non-factor. Sorry, I know you're trying to shoehorn politics into everything, but the scary Democrats aren't keeping your free agents away. Teams from California or New York don't seem to have any problems enticing free agents to go there, and their taxes are higher than Massachusetts. Other teams in states that have higher tax burdens, but don't have any issues getting free agents signed: And remember, this is not even including ALL the California teams: Minnesota Vikings Indianapolis Colts Chicago Bears Baltimore Ravens Cleveland Browns Cincinatti Bengals So where did you get the false idea that somehow the tax situation in Massachuetts plays a factor? Do they just not like Massachusetts taxes specifically? Because teams in states with higher taxes still sign high level free agents. Why is that?
I always have to remind people when they talk about the taxes in a state. Guaranteed money means more than anything else. If they really want someone they give them a guarantee deal. Plain and simple.
I still stand by Mayo in that he absolutely should have won that week 18 game. I'd rather go down fighting than surrender for a pick. Tanking ruins the game. And it also doesn't always work. Because tanking every year hasn't benefitted the teams that seem to do it every year. Tank it til you make it isn't the way.
Last 10 yrs post draft rating, don’t recall Pats ever receiving an “A” grade - been their Achilles heel - might consider using an outside source to critique their choices
People need to hear more of these Bill stories. As much as he did to build this team into a winner, he also built this team into a loser! Remember Bill ALWAYS called the shots, and was in control of the money too!
@ Bill didn’t build those early teams BTW, the early Super Bowl teams were built mainly by Parcells and Grier! Bill walked in and was gifted a great team! Bill didn’t get full control until after the second Super Bowl! Clearly you need some reading comprehension classes too! I clearly gave him credit fool! Also who’s job was it to go get another QB?
@ if Bill only had success during those years you could use that as a reference point. He created the Edlenutts and the Whites, the Deion Branches of the world
No way dude give me McMillan over hunter any day that week. He’s the next Mike Evans if not better version of him. 6’5” and can catch the ball insane. He toyed with Hunter when Hunter was trying to cover him.
Bert referencing Dyami Brown when there’s a way better example in Nico Collins. I think Polk sucks, but Collins is one where he didn’t have success until year 3
Over-expectations that this entirely new group just hits the ground running with an entirely new OL. Why do you people put these massive expectations on them? I don't care much about the W/L record in the first year. I just want to see a professional, well prepared team show up and be competitive. They need to find an identity before I'll start expecting over .500 from them.
You don't know what they are planning for FA though. Perhaps they see FA as a source for a tackle, and then grab a developmental tackle in the second or third rounds. Who knows?
@ neither do you, those players still are not needed. If you think the tackle position is easily developed well you’re sadly mistaken and your whole argument is molded to fit what you want not what is needed. If tackle is the biggest need you take the one you think is the best not the one you think you can get value so you’re able to get another pick not that position no way.
Hunter won’t play both at the next level so why would you take someone who isn’t the best in the class at either position. The duality is both a novelty and a hypothetical
I would not discount that Hunter can play spot duty on the other side of the ball, a lot like Marcus Jones, except perhaps more impactful. Personally, I'd rather they make sure they get the tackle(s) they need first.
There is almost no chance that either carter or hunter are not there at 4. Teams always clamor over quarterbacks and the closer we get to draft, quarterbacks wil only get hotter. Beyond tennesee, cleveland and the giants either take a qb or trade out to a team that will

Will Campbell. They need great OL, not good.

Him next to Baramore with another good Edge guy in FA that's going to be one mean DL and that will help the secondary a bunch.

Thank god we won a meaningless week 18 game against the Bills. So glad we gave up the #1 pick🙄
Man can y’all just get over it already? They did everything they could to lose 😂
Just get it , Bills made sure the Pats won the game as well
Face it, the team didn't win well, nor did they lose well. They didn't do anything well.

It’s not a big deal. It’s not like this. Draft is great. We would not have got anything for that pic
