    So glad to find this video. I am a beginner and was looking for videos to learn more about film cameras and came across this. I was really suprised by how calming this video is, the music, the look, really great stuff

    Good video but 14 megapixels is way too high and that Cybershot is too modern and sharp. It's not really a "digicam" people are using and referring to the past few years. You need an older camera with an older sensor around 3-6 megapixels. Especially the old Fuji SuperCCD cameras, which are very filmic with no editing needed. Look for the A400, 500, 600 or 610 and in the F series, the F10, F11, F20, F30 and F31fd. Also the old Canon Powershots under 6 megapixels are great for that filmic look. My G2 and A85 are awesome, both are 4 megapixels. They even have a "low sharpening" setting that looks great. Hope that helps.

      Would you include the HP Photosmart cameras in that?

      @@phillipbanes5484 It absolutely matters because CCD sensors handle everything from colors all the way down to noise much differently than CMOS sensors do. Not to mention that camera makers were intentionally trying to mimic the film look with the early CCD sensors in an attempt to get film shooters to switch over and get a similar look. That all went away once CMOS sensors took over and they have a much more digital look to them.

      You are right. I recently bought a Sony Cybershot T5 and I really like the quality. 2005 release, 5.1 megapixels and an old sensor take great pictures. So close to film.

      Check out Fujifilm F700 / F810. Will knock you out. Panasonic Lumix LC5/LC40/Leica Digilux 1 (all same camera) is another camera waiting to be rediscovered.

    The biggest hang up I've had with digicams is the lack of viewfinder, especially when shooting midday. I feel like I"m shooting blind with digicams where even a cheap point and shoot film camera I can better compose my images. Still love shooting with point & shoot digicams with CCD sensors. Thanks for the vid, Jed.

      100%! And the only hang up i have with kodak i60 viewfinder is focal length. I find it hard to get used to it since it takes a lil while to finish the roll and see the scans. Any tips?

    • @somephotovideos
      @somephotovideos ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jedthestoryteller Can't think of any tips off the top of my head, especially since I'm just returning to point and shoot 35mm film. On a digicam it's fairly easy to get a cold-shoe mounted optical viewfinder, especially if it's a single focal length. On my Leica X1 I have a 36mm optical viewfinder so I don't have to rely on the LCD screen to compose my images.

    • @deangranros8493
      @deangranros8493 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There are plenty of older digicams with optical finders. Early Canon Gseries G2,G3..Fuji F700,810..Ricoh GX,, GX8, Lumix LC5, LC40, ..you just have to go far enough back to before they decided they weren't needed.

      @@deangranros8493 Good point. I have a few on my wish list with optical viewfinders.

    Cool comparison! As a CCD-explorer I must admit that the Kodak outduels the digicam in most of the samples here...at 5:50, the blown highlights-character of the Kodak is dreamy (the warmth adds to it) while the digicam's image is well exposed but so neutral.

    Good work Jed...I really like the photos out the Kodak i60... Both or really cool ..the cyber shot have a decent vibes ..I have a canon s90 and u get anice vibes due to the ccd sensors

    Processing film involves dodge and burn, which basically controls the highlights and shadows, making the image more balanced and properly exposed.

    Answer: No it can't. And it shouldn't. Even though the quality may seem "better", film photography is still an art of its own! And will/should always be a classic!

    Answer to title, yes. People scan photos from film anyway.
