Thank you! This video comes at the right time for me. I am a PhD student doing empirical accounting research and this is perfect to revise and learn new concepts.
Thank you soooooo much for this video. I know it look a lot of work and research. Can't thank you enough! this is going to get my work to get to the next level.
Wonderful! Really glad that it is helpful! This is why I love social media and the Web. It makes it so simple to share and make it accessible knowledge (and here with only free resources)
Is there any point in Causal Inference where we are sure of an answer ? I just started learning about it and it seems quite wishy washy so far. Every study has some unverifiable assumption.
When I teach causal inference, after two third of the semester, most of the students feel like you. You can't test directly for uncounfoundedness (can't prove causality with a simple statistical test due to the fundamental problem of causal inference). The idea is similar to what happen with crimes. You have several suspects. You challenge the alibis, you check if the other supsects have alibis. You pile up evidence and you condemn the person that is left (if there is one). In a well done RCT, or A/B test, you are quite certain about the causal effect within the scope of the study (internal validity). But often the external validity is weak... So there is always something to say. It requires a lot of work, practice to deal with this uncertainty. And yes, there are studies and situation where the certainty is quite high. I am in the process of publishing my book The Causal Mindset. Hopefully, it will illustrate and tech this well. Maybe my other videos will help to see this (maybe illustration of the last paper Hanlon 2018): th-cam.com/video/LJAYf51anKc/w-d-xo.html
Thank you so much! Causality is a new concept for me, and your guidance has opened up a new area for me to explore and expand my knowledge. 😊
Glad to hear! Have fun and enjoy this rewarding journey
