Hiking The Ireland Way with The Hiking Rev, Stage 8 - Suck Valley Way, Ballygar to Loughglynn

- The 8th stage of the Ireland Way is called the “Suck Valley Way” and goes from the village of Ballygar to Loughglynn, 48.6 kilometers long. Along the way, I camped in a farmers field just north of Castlerea where it rained all night. The reason it’s called the Suck Valley Way is because it follows the River Suck through Ireland.

Yes, out of our comfort zone….thats what we should do more. Very nice! Thanks for sharing Rev!
You’re quite welcome. 😁
I thought I wanted to go to Ireland as a missionary. God had other plans. I went to Ecuador instead and served with my husband there for 20 years. It is still my dream to visit Ireland one day.❤☘️❤
I admire anyone that would leave their “comfort zone” and go to another country to serve as a missionary. 😁
What beautiful country! Short goals, a step at a time, are the best way for lots of things. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks Ruth. So true. 😁
I always get very happy when a new video comes out and I am never disappointed. I really enjoy watching them because you make us feel like we are right there with you the entire way. Have a great day Rev
Thank you for coming along with me. Believe it or not, even though I hike solo, I always feel your presence when I do a long-distance thruhike. 😁
The ole "one foot in front of the other" philosophy has served me well on long hikes. Sometimes it's not places but the faces of those we meet that make the trip. Have a great day Rev!
Thanks. That is the truth! 😁
My man is living the dream!
I’m definitely living the dream. 😁 (and am VERY thankful.)
As always I am glad to see another video. They are a much welcome escape from daily life. And they often provide some spiritual guidance.
Thanks Charles. I’m glad you’re enjoying them. 😁
That has to be cool hiking through all those small towns.
It was great going through all the villages. It made resupplying a whole lot easier. 😁
Hi Rev. I love seeing the horses with their foals and the sheep with their lambs as you walk past them. The fields over there are so green. I heard the rain coming down, and thought to myself, he'll be getting wet in the morning. Must admit I was laughing as you high stepped your way through that wet field. Sorry, Rev. Greatly enjoyed this section. Now I'm ready for the next one. Unfortunately I'll have to wait. Great video. Blessings to you and your family. Take care and stay safe. See you next time.
Thanks Judith. Yep, that’s why it’s called, “The Emerald Isle.” 😁
Brother Rev❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thanks. 😁
Great videos, I completed my Ireland way trip in May of this year. Your videos are bringing back so many memories. Thank you
Thanks. Good for you. It was a great hike. Grueling, but I throughly enjoyed it. 😁
"Just get to the next camp site" ... words of wisdom I will take to heart. Thank you Rev!
That mindset sure helped me. 😁
I am stunned by the amount of mileage you do! And you said at some point- I wasn't even pushing....! Let's get it, indeed!
Thanks. I’m not a “fast” hiker but I don’t like to stop and I put in a lot of hours a day. I just hike longer, not faster. 😁
Loving the drone shots REV of course love the videos to keep on humping brother
Thanks Bill. Will do. 😁
Dude, much props to you. I hiked the Western Way year before covid and I soon found out which of my clothing was "water proof" and which was "water resistant". Tons of rain and wind, but as you are seeing, glorious days as well. I was soft and stayed in a BnB or hotels each night. God bless you for sleeping on the ground. Love your adventures and enjoy each video.
Thanks Randy. Yep, your “rain gear” really gets tested in Ireland. 😁
Almost forgot to say due to my bad memory from then: I like your post, like always.
Thanks Daniel. 😁
Excellent drone footage and music selection. I wouldn’t have liked the road sections. I suck at going out of my comfort zone. Wonderful video of Suck Valley 🌿
Thanks Rebecca. I think I liked the road walking better than the farmers fields with cow and sheep poop, bogs, and no visible trails. 😁
@@TheHikingRev except for the cars that go whizzing by….
Be careful on those very narrow Irish highspeed roads. I remember a lab technician in Bern, Switzerland, where I did my PhD 1988-1991. She quit her job and went travelling in Ireland. One day she was hit by a truck on one of these roads and was killed instantly. I went to her burial, so very sad, she was only in her 20's.
Wow… I can definitely see how that could happen. I had some pretty close calls. Cars coming around a corner and not seeing me because of the hedges. 😳
Loving these latest videos. I was wondering if you still like using your Plex Solo tent. Thinking about buying one
Hey Brandy. I love my Zpacks Plex Solo tent but I like my Durston X-Mid 1 Pro better. I used it on my Ireland Way hike and was very satisfied. 😁
@@TheHikingRev I've thought about the Durston but I'm concerned it has a big footprint and might be hard to set up?
Are you using a GoPro camera and how are you charging batteries while on the trail? My wife and I have really enjoyed you Ireland trip
Thanks. I’m glad you’re enjoying my videos.
I’m just using my iPhone 14 Pro and my DJI Mini 2 drone for video footage. 😁
Hi Rev , I follow your video,s but I never see you doing any navgation. My quistion is how do You navigate ? Regards Max
Thanks Max. I used a phone mapping app called, “Gaia GPS” on my Ireland trip. I referred to it often. 😁
