I have the TomTom 350 TM..man i love this unit..ive never had a problem getting to where i need to go and it locks on the satellites very quickly...i love the map update feature...use it on a regular basis...also i modified my gps with a altimeter and a trip calculator (extremely accurate)..here is a tip...when planing unfamiliar routes i use google maps for the destination and import it to my TomTom...
I just tried the TomTom 1500 and the Garmin 1450. I drove them around and played with them, even took them home and updated them and continued to drive them around. End result... I ended up getting the TomTom. I like the physical feel of the Garmin a little more, but I like the TomTom Graphics, turns prompts and voice much more. So I stuck with the TomTom. Thanks to Walmart and their no hassle return policy.
I've used about 20 different models of GPS's over the last 7 years as a pro driver including Garmin, Tomtom, Magellan, Rightway, Motorola, Navigon, etc.. Tomtoms are the best. The feature where you can mark an impassable road or bridge as such is vital when you're driving in an unfamiliar area. With a Garmin, you can't do that, and then you are unsure which direction to head in, and when you start driving it may lead you back onto the closed road. Messy. Tomtoms are the best.
Both of the Tomtom GPS I've owned just stopped working after about 3 years....now I just bought me a Garmin drive 5 GPS It's a lot easier to update the Maps only took about 40 minutes So far it's Great
FINALLY a video i can really use ! that garmin looks like the kids broke out the crayons ! im glad i went tomtom... 1 lane to RULE THEM ALL ! i have the one on the right!!! thanks for the vid 1
@stewartx5 sorry, it was a brain fart, I was just ranting about Tom Tom in general because I had so many problems with mine, I wasn't targeting a particular model, just the name brand, and I didn't realize that someone would think I meant the model listed here which probably does work properly. Once again sorry
We returned our TomTom to Costco as over time it got dimmer to the point you could not see it in bright sunlight. In a number of instances it would not accept an address that was legitimate.
Which one would you rather hear...."after 250 feet, you have reached your destination", or "arriving at destination, on right".....for me, I prefer the 250 feet. "arriving at destination" is not specific enough. TomTom wins
@95ChevyTeeruk The Nuvi 205 is very basic GPS, very user friendly. has more setting than the XL350TM. The 350TM is more advance, live traffic (with DC adapter), and livetime map update for free. Easy to use, fast and good signal. But cut off many settings, you can't even adjust the screen brightness, and you lose the "Latitude", which may be useful when you going to a national park for campping. So, I dont like both of them, and I got the Tomtom XL 340 back. or Nuvi 255, 265
@gygahurtz looks like you have to hold the power button for 20 seconds to reset this one, sorry if I went on a rant, but your "look before posting" comment ticked me off
@ajourdan1 Um, there is not one, all it has is a USB plug and a light, nothing else, I have looked before, and am looking right now. Its a XL n14644 do a google search for "tom tom xl n14644 reset and under images 5th row down, middle of page there is a pic of the bottoms of 2 stacked together, mine looks like the bottom, then tell me where the reset button is
I would never get another tomtom, mine is 2 years old and it constantly looses gps signal and gets confused as if the road you are actually driving on is a crossroad on the map and it looks like you are driving on one of the crossroads, i use it every day for work and get pissed on a daily basis, there is no reset button on it and having to connect it to the computer every other day to download the gpsfix file is getting really old. it gets more lost than I already am
as you can see at 1:09, when the car turning right under the two bridges, in this situation the Garmin made it more clear on the map. the Tomtom map was just messed up, and people will get confuse.
I can't get a valid GPS signal in my TomTom at all. Only had it for a month and the website has a stupid solution but many people can't get it working even after doing what they say. Including myself. FUCK TOMTOM!!
Interesting that this has comments from several days ago. Has anyone noticed that this review is for the 2010 TomTom and Garmin. This is five years old people. Review a new 2015 model - not a five-year-old model. Plus this is produced by amateurs who can't get a decent shot of the product they are reviewing, drive in a shaky vehicle, and leave a silly toy dangling in front of the product they are reviewing. This isn't worth watching.

Thanks for uploading this video. I do like that little cut scene the tom tom does at a freeway off ramp.
Thank you! You made my decision I choose GARMIN

Garmin has the better screen, but I like the large layout at the base of the TomTom, as well as it's stronger audio coaching.

@madedownunder Ya, it was new at that time. you have good eye, thanks

tomtom has a duller interface than garmins but tomtom has exit guided lane showing(idk) and more specific tomtom wins
i meant the xl but the VIA and GO 1535 have new interface
Garmin higher model and newer model had exit guided lane showing(idk) too.
I think Garmin has to much information on the screen
as you can see at 1:09, when the car turning right under the two bridges, in this situation the Garmin made it more clear on the map. the Tomtom map was just messed up, and people will get confuse.
ok
tomtom wins! I love your video and I subscribed to you. I had a tomtom device but it broke so I use Google Maps.
reaction time to the speed is faster in GARMIN
@gygahurtz Right*
