Excellent content. There is not much strategy content for Underworlds on TH-cam, but even if there were more, this would still be high-tier. The production value of your videos is higher than I expected when I saw your subscriber/view counts a few weeks back when I started watching. That sub count is at least one higher now :) A few comments/questions: 1) Consider increasing the contrast of the rating you give each card with the card itself, especially in the background. It's hard to see at a glance, and might be more valuable to pick a single-color that contrasts well with the dominant color of the warband you're reviewing, even if that means you lose the color coding of the letters. Maybe just an undershadow or outline? If you want to see what I mean, compare the readability of the A rating you gave to Nauseous Revulsion at 8:24 to that of the C rating you gave Fly Swarm at 11:22. 2) I love the fact that you include the entire chart at the end of each video, keep that up. 3) I like that you've mixed the music lower (I think), but you would do better to mix it even lower or remove it entirely. It's repetitive, distracting, and only very slightly on theme in that it sounds like a ren faire. Your stuff stands on it's own, you don't need music other than intro music or to emphasize certain clips or transitions. 4) The balance videos that accompany each warband video are insightful and reflect some real understanding of game design and balance. For what it's worth, I'm literally a professional game designer (I worked at Wizards of the Coast on Magic: the Gathering and board games for 5 years, and I now work at Bungie on Destiny 2), and you're doing and saying exactly what it takes to make a solid game. 5) Kind of a follow up to the last question: have you ever made a game and/or do you have a lot of competitive gaming experience, specifically card gaming? This could just be my personal background in Magic swaying me, but I'd bet you've PTQ'd your fair share. 6) Please keep it up. I just dove into miniatures in September due to quarantine, and Underworlds like a month ago, but these videos are what I used to decide what armies to buy and how to think about what cards/strategies are good as a foothold. Hopefully when the first expansion warband of S4 drops and you immediately slam a review up there, the algorithm will flood you with views/subs. Maybe make some list videos after you run out of warbands? 7) Kind of an afterthought, but maybe you should break the order and do the new bands from Direchasm just for clickbait before you finish out s2 Cheers
Thanks for the thoughtful comment! I appreciate the support! 1) Ya, I made a lot of slides with similar formatting and color scheme over a short period (have been roughly releasing a review a week since August). Once I catch up to the meta (only two weeks off), seeing as there would be more time between releases, I was going to augment the video quality. 2) Will do 3) I have been trying to use different free music sources for each season. The season 3 one is a bit repetitive I guess. I will try to find something more appropriate moving forward. 4) Appreciate the support. I am actually going to stop making balancing videos in this format once I have finished reviewing season 3, and will take the balancing videos to a whole 'nother level in February and beyond ;) 5) This is the first game I have 'designed'... not really. I have played this game a lot and I find it easy to see the flaws. I have otherwise gamed a lot and was always avid at finding the best combinations (mainly in role-playing games), so am good at theorizing a game's potential. 6) I agree that it is better to slam out content the moment it is relevant. I have a few videos in which I did that, and the views are much higher. Once I finish these last two warbands, I will basically be caught up and will definitely do that. Thanks! 7) I think this is a good idea, but I have been grinding forward for months and am only two weeks away from catching up (plus I already prepared the analysis for the end of season 3), so I will truck forward still, but will be caught up by mid February. Thanks again for the feedback and I hope you continue to enjoy the content :)
