Para casarse, una mujer debía saber cocinar, coser, tejer, bordar y cumplir con todos los mandatos maritales, religiosos y sociales.
En tiempos de nuestras madres y abuelas, la mujer para casarse tenía saber cocinar, coser, realizar todas las actividades del hogar y colaborar con el marido en los quehaceres rurales. También tenía que destacarse en sus virtudes personales, en el temor y la fe en Dios, el respeto y la sumisión al esposo y mantener vigentes las tradiciones ancestrales en el seno familiar.
La mujer cargaba sobre sus espaldas todo el peso de la familia. Por eso conversar con mujeres de edad avanzada significa rescatar y revalorizar y conocer distintas pinceladas de la historia cotidiana de los pueblos alemanes. Ellas nos pueden pintar un cuadro real de cómo se desarrollaba la vida femenina en los primeros tiempos de las colonias y cómo se desenvolvían sus existencias en una sociedad basada en férreas tradiciones religiosas y arraigadas costumbres machistas y para nada igualitarias.
“Los sábados mamá nos hacía levantar temprano -recuerda una abuela de noventa años- y había que realizar las tareas de la casa; nosotros teníamos un patio amplio, y como yo era la más pequeña tenía que barrerlo y limpiar los gallineros. Entre todas las hermanas mujeres teníamos que lavar la ropa de toda la familia. Coserla, remendarla, plancharla... porque el lunes los hermanos y papá volvían a sus tareas rurales, en las que también teníamos que colaborar, ayudando en lo que podíamos. En los atardeceres teníamos que regar la quinta con grandes baldes llenos de agua que eran pesadísimos. Además teníamos que carpirla y mantenerla limpia de yuyos. En una palabra: las mujeres, tanto hijas como mamá, hacíamos todas las tareas domésticas más todo el trabajo que nos exigía realizar papá en el campo, donde trabajábamos a la par de él”.
La mujer se pasaba la mayor parte de su juventud embarazada. Cada matrimonio tenía por regla general más de diez hijos. Pero el estar embarazada no la liberaba de realizar las labores que le exigía el marido. Porque él era el jefe de familia y se hacía lo que él decía. Su opinión era sagrada y no se discutía jamás. Esto era así porque en los pueblos alemanes la sociedad se regía por el sistema patriarcal, con códigos que en la actualidad se considerarían machistas y nada igualitarios para la mujer pero que en aquellos años eran aceptados y moneda corriente en la mayoría de las culturas inmigratorias.
“El papel de la mujer era servir a todos los que compartían la familia y su actividad se orientaba a cuidar, alimentar, educar, atender en las enfermedades y acompañar en la hora postrera. Era la ama de casa -reflexionan los historiadores Generoso Stang y Orlando Britos - pero al mismo tiempo estaba sujeta a la misión que se le asignaba. Estaba dotada de autoridad para llevar a cabo su misión de cuidar la economía familiar; dedicarse a la educación de los niños, especialmente a las hijas mujeres a quienes debía instruir en las tareas propias de una mujer; enseñándoles los caminos para administrar su hogar, los conocimientos de cocina, sin descuidar en lo más mínimo la educación religiosa”.
“La mujer se pasaba el día trabajando: elaborando los alimentos; la vestimenta para los integrantes del hogar; hilaba lana; tejía; bordaba” y, como ya dijimos, colaboraba en mil quehaceres más trabajando casi a la par del marido. No era una vida sencilla pero, a su manera, fue feliz. Al menos es lo que sostienen la mayoría de ellas al ser consultadas. Beautiful job. I used to cut all the overhang from my neighbour’s garden but have been banned from doing it now by my family because I fell off the ladder twice and broke an arm each time.(I’m 72).They say I’m too old to be climbing ladders now. I don’t agree as I’m fit,healthy and agile. I am still allowed to mow my rather large lawn.I miss the satisfaction of a job well done,and it looking good.My 14 year old nearly 6 foot grandson does the overhang now.

You are not too old! Do what you love to do...
I am 79, be 80 April 3 and still climbing, cutting small limbs, branches from trees.

The more I see, the more I like the natural borders opposed to the hard borders like pvc fences,etc.

I love seeing you trim hedges .I couldn't do what you do I would have those poor hedges so uneven it would be pitiful.your the best I've seen trimming hedges .most that I've seen are good but not as good at it as you are.

I always love the hedges compared to a wooden fence, but I do not like spiders so we put in bushes around our house.....I know there is spiders in bushes too but not as many I would think. Love your work, thank you for sharing it with us. 🇨🇦🎆🎄🇩🇪
There aren't many spiders in hedges, although sometimes there are, but there are a lot of spiders and other insects in Ivy hedges, so I don't really like Ivy. Thank you very much for watching the video and Happy New Year.🎄

No matter how tall the hedges are you still manage to do a wonderful job. However, you better be careful. You might fall again like what happened in your other project.

Hi, yes, no problem, I shoot videos on a Gopro on a tripod, and sometimes an additional angle on Sony, and I do video editing on a video editor from Windows 11.👍
There are a lot of very tall hedges in Germany. I’ve never seen them this big here
Next time make sure u try and leave some greenery on that one side of the yew hedge

I am not going to tell u how to do ur job, but I am gonna suggest to u that u should always start at the top then gradually go to the sides nd then the bottom. It's much easier nd takes less time. Btw I soley enjoy all ur videos. Keep up the good work nd u will surel be blessed. GOD BLESS U YOUNG MAN.

Are you talking about those bushes that the neighbors have? It was they themselves who so radically wanted me to cut it, but there is no need to worry about this yew hedge, it will grow back👍
