It's not said enough that children get panic attacks, 10 years later and you can finally say your truth, I was 8 when I saw you on Tele, inspiring really
This moment showed just how vital Ant and Dec are to the show- they handled it so effortlessly when they were trying to comfort you and they were very gentle- you made BGT history Also, you still look the exact same 😂
So crazy how one panic attack effected her forever. I had panic disorder all throughout my childhood and it completely stole it. Mental health is way more important than anyone ever thinks. ❤
Hollie, I don’t think you realize how blessed you are with your singing. Don’t let the haters get to you. They’re just jealous. It’s a gift. Keep using it.
It's amazing how 10 years after that tough experience, she's still smiling and releasing her music. Lesson is don't let one difficult experience bring you down and it will only make you stronger in the end.
I was 12 when I saw you on BGT, I remember you being portrayed as a kid who was just "having a tantrum" or a "bratty kid". Now that I'm older and struggle with anxiety I feel awful that I was so influenced by the press and couldn't see past the malice when actually I was struggling with panic attacks from a young age too. So glad to see you're doing well!
Thank you so much for this comment. I remember it too but glad the world around us is changing for the better for those who have mental health problems. It's much better understood and accepted now! I hope you're keeping well and safe :) Sending love your way x
I sing too and I would have gotten upset if I panicked on stage and would really want to try again as well. I’d also hate it if someone made me do a song I don’t like. I’m so glad you’re doing well now ☺️
I can't understand why they would portray you as any type of brat or anything like that that makes no sense to me why because you cried and asked for a second chance I'm not from England so I don't know what the media was like around you but that just really seems strange to me that people would interpret it in that manner
For what it's worth, music has been a mainstay of my entire life and I'm 69 years old now, but I am truly glad you are still singing and sorry that you went through all of the stuff you went through!!! THANK YOU!!! You have a truly fantastic voice and for me and thousands of others, you are a gift to us and you are loved by more than the few haters that might be out there! Love ya!!!
I think it is sad that people went on to grill you as a young child and young woman about one bad experience which honestly made you more relatable and admirable than anything else. Some of the biggest stars and artists have at one stage or another doubted themselves. It was by continuously striving to improve themselves, and being humble, that they became great. “If you’re not failing, you’re not pushing your limits, and if you’re not pushing your limits, you’re not maximizing your potential” - Ray Dalio Principles: Life and Work
I am so excited for you, and for this internal transformation you are experiencing! I am also so sorry that you had such a traumatic experience being involved with this show. Ask yourself where your self worth is based... on external validations or your own internal validations? We want the answer the be INTERNAL. Each and every human on this planet are inherently worthy, and it's up to us to love ourselves enough to see it. I'll be praying for you and sending you so much love on this healing journey Hollie!
I used to work with Hollie really down to a earth young lady. Miss working with her she was always smiling and had a lovely voice. Good to see you doing well Hollie! 👍🏻
I'm only two years older than you but you have no idea how proud I am of you. You inspire me a lot. Please never stop shooting for your dreams. We'll never stop supporting you 💗
Whatever happened to little Hollie Steel? Now I know. What a lovely update that tells us you are still fabulous, well adjusted and articulate. Life is about choices and you've made some excellent ones and at 21, you are beautiful and on a good path to following your dreams. Ask just about any singer or actor and they'll tell you how nervous they are before going on stage which serves as a motivation to do their very best. Being one of my favorite little TH-cam performers as a child, I feel so much better knowing how well adjusted and happy you are. Keep making those good choices and use the gift of beauty and talent God has blessed you with.
You are one of my longest/strongest loves here. I remember watching the show and when you had your melt down and with encouragement, got yourself together and sang your heart out, I was so proud of you and could feel the audience felt the same at the end of the song. I have always had a problem with public speaking and sometimes couldn't do it. That is why I love you and have watched all of your videos over the years. I think if you went and watched the last minute or two of that recording, you would see what everyone else saw - a very talented singer that has got what it takes.
Hollie you are an inspiration not only because you have had the courage to share your story, but because you haven't been afraid to stand up for and praise the younger version of yourself. Well done for saying how you were "one strong kid" because you definitely were! Not enough people compliment themselves these days, instead people seem to feel more comfortable putting themselves down. This needs to change!!
Watched it live at the time - and was so happy when you came back fighting. So wonderful to see what a happy, rounded person you are. So genuinely happy to see how well you are doing and that you’re still getting to do your passion. Great person 👊🏼🫶🏼
It's always so sweet to see these child performers after they're grown up. Hollie is both beautiful and articulate. I hope her career brings her happiness and success.
MrEricThomason I think I understand why they do that because the song you choose may not be as difficult as it should be the further you go on. So they must choose the song for that final to fit the difficulty...
Hollie you are as cute and sweet now as you were when you started and I'm glad you continued singing. If you'd have quit, what a loss it would be to those of us who love to hear your beautiful voice!
I just watched that video of little you for the first time all I want to send you are hugs and kisses ❤ You've grown so much as a person from what it seems like and are such a strong and beautiful young woman! I hope you're happy where you're at in life right now!😊
This is a wonderful and at the same time a sad insight into your time on BGT Hollie. I was never aware of the difficulties you've had since that time 10 years ago, although somehow I'm not surprised. I hope you know by now though, that you have many fans who support and care for you and recognise the amazing talent you have. The difficulties and negativity you have battled against have helped mould you into the wonderful young women you are today!
@Hollie Steel Official Channel you brought tears to my face with your "phantom of the opera" performance, my mom loved phantom of the opera. As of a week from now 5 years ago my mom died after fighting cancer for 9 years. To keep this short, you have helped me though a great many a dark days. I thank you to the bottom of my heart. I would not be here without you.
"Confidence is not they will like it, but I will be ok if they don't like it." Thank you. I write stories and poems. I work on my confidence issues since, well, years. I know about fear, this sentence helped me understand and feel something. Thanks for the good vibes. Good vibes to anyone reading this \^/
Wonderful video, Hollie! You've answered so many questions I've always wondered about. I think you have always been adorable, and you continue to be so. Yes, there are people who love and others who hate, but that will always be, no matter what you do, or who you are. So just do what makes YOU happy and life will be better! Love you..and keep the videos coming! ❤️
I never knew you are brave enough what you had to say about your experience on BGT, I'm very proud of you Hollie and I remember you 10 years ago you were amazing I just want to hug you right now You know that I am also 21 years old You know I'm with you girl👍🇬🇧
Wow Hollie! You’ve really changed since we saw you on BGT. I felt sorry for you when you broke down on live TV, when you cried I cried too. Despite that, I loved listening to your voice during your BGT performances and you were absolutely adorable! And you’ve grown into a beautiful independent young woman. I’m very proud of you, my dear. Stay safe and keep up the good work. Virtual hugs and kisses always. ❤️❤️
I remember you on the show . I can’t believe how little you’ve changed ! You’ve told the truth they people definitely needed to hear. I’m so glad you’ve done well , and made it through your hard times . I suffer from PTSD due to some bad seizures , but mindfulness has helped me a lot ! 💕
Hollie, I've been following you since BGT. You are amazing and wonderful. Keep up the good fight and thanks for this video. I feel better knowing that you are OK. You look beautiful and sound happy, please do this again soon.
Wow Hollie! You are amazing and I’ve been a fan for long time. I always thought you were wonderful when you did put a song out and when you had your chats with fans. Wishing you much success.
Holly, I continuously watch your videos in admiration of your strength and courage. I'm 31 and I would NEVER have the courage to get on that huge stage. You have a beautiful voice but I think people really need to acknowledge your how courageous you were and are to do all that!!! Much love and positivity to you!!!
TH-cam algorithm brought me here. Watched this then your Lorraine interview and thought it was real shame how the questions you were asked glossed over all this. Really courageous of you now and then. I really remember watching that semi and just feeling complete empathy, you had a lot of support even if it wasn't shown and I think it was your bravery that defined you that night. Also just listened to one of your songs and damn you're great! Would love to keep hearing you sing. But upmost focus on your mental health. Thank you for sharing. :)
Wow this is eye opening about everything that goes around BGT thank you for this. You were honestly so strong as a 10 year old to go through that experience... So courageous! 💗
Dear Hollie - I remember that incident a decade ago. It was most distressing to watch. I'm saddened that it left such deep wounds and angered by those who caused them, by not listening to you when you tried to express concerns about going on stage or about the choice of music - which should only ever have been yours to make, as the participant in the contest. However, it takes courage to be candid with people, so you have shown true courage simply by opening up to us about the experience. I hope you find ways to conquer your fears absolutely, and that if there remains within you any shred of ambition or dream of becoming a singer, you will reach a point where you can pursue it. Critics are bound to criticise, but if what you do brings pleasure to others, that is ultimately the most important thing. You're still young and still have much to offer - good luck for whatever you decide to do.
Hollie my dear, I am just a few years older than you and I watched the whole video. Well, no one knew what really happened to you at bgt and they just saw everything like a cartoon on tv so don’t care about what they think. No one has to put bgt or any of this kind of competitions as an authority or a totally fair and proper thing, it is just a show, so people have no rights to judge whether you are a good person through this. That’s not wise at all. You were there because you are real, and you felt real feelings, and experienced real stories, either drama or sweet memories. You are still very tender, kind to life and so you have eyes to see beauty, and this gift of singing belongs to you. The sweetness you share is the sweetness you derserve, please do not hesitate when showing the good and we will appreciate it.❤
You were AWESOME during your performances on EGT. Let the HATERS hate but YOU must stay true to YOURSELF and just be YOU. Please continue to pursue your passion for SINGING.
Thanks for this explanation Hollie. I'm from the USA and have followed you since the BGT episodes that included you. I felt so bad for you when you cried and it was so nice that you got that second chance and showed the world how good you actually are. I could tell you were over excited with anxiety and I believe Simon recognized that and changed the protocol of the show to let you come back. That was so nice of him.
Holly , you were AMAZING, and you still are. You are a beautiful young woman. Let us hear more from you if not in singing then just hear from you. You are a blessing.
The producers are a disgrace, Hollie.....giving you a song you'd never even heard before and which you didn't like. It is totally about manipulating the results Best of luck to you anyway, you seem like a great person
Here in 2023 only just came across your BGT performances and this update from what? 3 years ago...all I can say is that you have a very special charisma and light about you, on top of a really, truly, lovely voice so please, Hollie - SING, SING, SING!! with much love from across the pond.
I’m 10 years old now and I can’t even imagine how hard it would have been going up on stage like I can barely sing infront of my own family! I’m inspired really
Every time I watched that video, I would be in tears by the end. From the raw emotion. From how beautiful it sounded in the end. I had no idea you didn't like the song, nothing gave that away. Don't ever think no one wanted to hear you, there are plenty of us that thought it was amazing, and inspiring.
What people say about you is not really about you; it's about themselves - about what's going on inside their internal worlds... People who are truly happy would not say things that are hurtful to you... Enjoy doing what you truly love. Don't be afraid to let your light shine 💗
Awesome video! I didn't perform on stage for 7 years because of a bad experience like yours as a child (obviously on a much smaller scale- not on tv, lol). Got back performing last year aged 20 - feel ten feet tall now, but it wasn't easy! Key for me is to not take myself too seriously in my off stage life! Your story is inspiring - you rock!!! 🤟🎤😎
Hi Hollie, it's so nice to hear your side of the story. I had a discussion with my parents about your breakdown back then. They said as a child you deserved a 2nd chance, and I saw reason when my dad explained that if there was no 2nd chance you might have lost the will to sing again and when my mom said imagine how pressured it must have been singing in front of audience all over the country. I can't remember exactly what my dad said but it should be something like "adults have more life experiences than children, and this makes second chances for children fair," and I was convinced. We also mentioned that even adults like Susan Boyle got a bit off key in the semifinal, so it must have been a huge amount of pressure up there singing in front of the whole country (the whole world, actually, since BGT was already world-famous then and many non-British audience like me would be watching it on TH-cam). I felt really bad to see so many haters who bullied you after the breakdown, but please bear in mind that there were still a lot people who defended you even back then, though you probably won't see the defenders' messages on TH-cam now because many of them somehow got deleted. Just because people are being cynical to you doesn't mean you're not good. You were and still are amazing! Your experience has taught me the importance of allowing flexibility when practicing rules and gave me a different insight of fairness in big contests. Don't give up on singing and I wish you the very best!
Hollie, you are simply WONDERFUL! The producers pic the winner no matter how good you might be... I believe that I have a good voice and have sang at paties and occasions with much fear at times. I do not get encouragement from the people closest to me, so I always doubt myself when I get up to sing. I once was accepted to audition for Americas Got Talent but fear prevented me from following through. I understand your fear but feel there is no need for you to be afraid because you are Fantastic!!!
Thank you for that video. It is nice to see you open up about a traumatic experience. I hope that you have learned not to take in the negative things that some people will say. In this world it is an unfortunate fact that some people are not very nice, or sympathetic, or tolerant of others. It is better to focus on those who bring light into your world
Awww imagine if 10 year old you could have had a flash forward to the future and seen this video. She would have been proud and exited to end up as you are at 21. What a strong determined kid you were though. Not every kid has a drive like that. Makes me wonder what would have happened if you weren’t on the show. Perhaps you would have been ‘discovered’ but through a different pathway. One that was not designed to drain and manipulate you but that valued your determination and grit and talent. You live and learn and as you say you are so so young. The world is your oyster still. The experience might have made you a humbler and more real person in a way because you weren’t given a false impression of the industry and then dropped when you aged out. You can now grow into it if that’s what you what to do - or simply grow from it and move into other areas of living and life away from ‘being famous’ or whatever the drive might be. ‘Fame’ seems like a fickle fake life anyway. Being real and true to yourself is the best path in life and it takes most people a lifetime if ever to realise that. You learned it young. It will serve you well now whichever way you go from here. ⭐️
Thank you Hollie! ❤ This is an important and sooo positive message to everyone that have been bullied online. No one shall let that keep them from doing what they love. Stay confident!!
I believe in you because you have the most wonderful voice and I have PTSD. You are a beautiful person inside and out. You have grown in confidence, strength in yourself so keep up the good work. I'm a new fan and would love to hear you sing and communicate with all of us. Hope to hear what your doing now. Watching you grow in your career ❤ love Victoria Flaherty
I want to compliment you on your courage and your honest story. It is a lesson we (young and old) can learn from. You are a wonderful spirit and do not allow anyone to let you feel otherwise. Keep up the good work and follow your dreams. You can do anything you can put your mind to.
I have been a fan for all of that ten years. I loved you then and I love you now. You may never see my name again, but you can know in your heart that you are in my heart. Love you, sweetie. Don't ever stop!
I hope you have found a way to get back to your love of singing. As an old guy (mid-50's), I'm just starting to sing myself in local theatre as a way of pushing boundaries. I have nowhere close to the voice you have, but it brings me joy and hopefully nobody ears bleed. ;-) When you spoke of fear I was reminded of Simon Sinek who talks about how fear and excitement release the very same chemicals into our bodies. The difference is out perception of what is going on; just in case that helps you or someone else.... I am very sorry you went through this and so glad you remained a happy person. Go get 'em Hollie!
What happened to your Accrington accent? I'm from Manchester And I remember loving you on bgt. I also teared up when you cried. Can't believe I was a young teen
I wanna hear you sing, then till now from present to future. Love to see ya growth. Through the mountain high and low valleys. Jia you Hollie. Don’t let fear hold you. Keep you in prayer.💪🏻💪🏻
This video has given me so much confidence too x I am currently 22 years old and I remember when you were on the show and I was soooo jealous that I couldn’t put up the nerve to do that and honestly as bad as this sounds when you did experience anxiety and break down it made me feel real and that it’s normal to be nervous and everything x thank you for being you ❤️
Hollie, since I live in America (Seattle), I've only seen you on TH-cam, on BGT and you were really fantastic. You sang magnificently! I can say that, "Wow! You've grown up to be a very beautiful woman." I still enjoy watching your BGT performances now and then. Hollie, you didn't mention in this video if you've ever watched the movie, "The Sound of Music." The song Edelweiss is such a beautiful song and I and many of my friends really love it.. and the movie. Hollie, you sang the song so beautifully and put me in such a great mood when I see a very special little girl (You) sing it. I hope everything works out for you because the world needs people like you, such beautiful souls, especially at this time. You should be very proud of yourself and I'm sure your country is very proud of you. You did a great job! Well done!!!!
Holly I hope you still love singing Bc your voice shouldn’t silent, you’re a beautiful person and I hope you don’t for a second listen to any negativity, those people don’t matter.. the fans who love you and who you touch .. they matter, the ones that support you and appreciate you matter. ☺️ hope you are doing great
Hollie just so you know you showed great courage and class in how you handled the situation. A tip. Sit down and mock up you snging face the fear and conditions you are experiencing and you will do better. Disassociate yourself with media and general public comments that are nagative. It's not about you why the comments are being made it's about the intention of the person making the comment to put you down. If you give them a platform," you", your universe to live in to destroy you they will live there. That's their nature.
Such a fine young lady. Very insightful reflection on your Britian's got talent experience. So happy you have overcome your fears and you are having a wonderful life going forward.
HOLLY, I LOVED YOU AT 10 & COULD FEEL YOUR EMOTIONS ON THE TALENT SHOW, BUT YOU SANG PERFECTLY!!! NOW THAT YOUR OLDER YOU STILL SING PERFECTLY AND I STILL LOVE YOU. DON'T EVER STOP SINGING. FOLLOW YOUR DREAMS, BE HAPPY. YOUR THE BEST. GOD BLESS YOU.🥰🙏👍❤😇😊
Hollie your an amazing young lady now's the Time to chase your dreams if you want to sing go for it the past is in the past think about the future go for it girl because you are worth it
Love it! Just saw your performance just now in America. I just loved that precious moment when your mom ran to you and how everyone cheered for you. That was a hard song but I always loved Edelweiss. And I loved the Phantom of the Opera song. Awww I hate that people bullied you. I get Panic attacks too and I recognized the panic in you. That is why they were so amazed at your strength. Panic is so real. I loved hearing you sing! Wishing you joy and happiness always! Your breakdown was so touching and inspiring. Keep being brave - you touch hearts that need it so ignore all the negative people and embrace your positivity ❤ Big Hugs!
You mean I was seven years old when you were on TV. That’s crazy 😱I looked up to you so much, you were wonderful. I’m so glad you’re doing well despite your ordeal with the show. You’re amazing 🥰
It's not said enough that children get panic attacks, 10 years later and you can finally say your truth, I was 8 when I saw you on Tele, inspiring really
I've had panic attacks since 7 or 8 years old and nobody told me what they were until I was in my mid-20s
Did anyone else’s moth drop open when she said she was 21?!
Grace Faith nothing will make you feel older than when you realise you’ve been watching BGT for 11 years... lol
Yes. I assumed time had passed, just not this much.
With me no. I will say how ever I did miss Hollie.
yep my did

Lying, not adorable. Hollie was adorable 10 years ago. But now, Hollie is not adorable :|
A story which needed to be told - thank you.

What kind of singing contest doesn't allow you to choose your song? That sounds absolutely absurd to me. Does Britans Got Talent still do that?
I know it's so bad , I think the other shows like x factor does it aswell :/
britain’s got talent does not anymore. x factor does.
All do, if they aren’t able to get the rights for the song.
Only if they can’t get rights, all talent shows do this

You know I'm with you girl👍🇬🇧
You look beautiful and sound happy, please do this again soon.
docphy I agree!
And if anyone makes fun of you for it again, just tell them to go on themselves and see how well they do. lol
Would love to hear you sing again. You have a beautiful voice.
I remember that year, my heart broke all over again as I just watched when you broke down, your talent is incredible, it was then and it still is,
TH-cam algorithm brought me here. :)
Omg it broke my heart in the lives when you started to cry mid song 😢
Hollie you were great and are still great. Brave, Keep singing beautiful and talented!!
The sweetness you share is the sweetness you derserve, please do not hesitate when showing the good and we will appreciate it.❤
She also reminds me of Cassie from skins.
Glenn Bill omg hahah
Glenn Bill and that girl from diary of a wimpy kid
You are wrong
Lauren how can someone’s opinion be wrong dumbass.
Watched this.... rewatched your performance on BGT.... full on cried for you. Glad you are doing better now. Thankyou for sharing your truth
We love you Hollie! Relax, enjoy your life. You are bless!!
Dear Hollie, you're a wonderful person and I also followed you since your first performance on BGT! Thank you for your video! Love, Gert W.
The producers are a disgrace, Hollie.....giving you a song you'd never even heard before and which you didn't like. It is totally about manipulating the results
Best of luck to you anyway, you seem like a great person
Thank you for explaining. I can totally understand. God bless you
As a 15 year old now who struggles with really bad anxiety I know I would not be able to handle what you went through at just 10. You're my hero.
Good to hear from you! Glad you are still around.
Parents should protect their kids and advise them. This is not a show for young kids.
I always listen to your songs, hollie, even on Britain's got talent, you are an amazing singer, never quit please
Thank you so much for being so open and honest! You are so brave to continue singing despite a traumatic experience❤️
Hollie - You are a genuine person. Totally extroverted and sincere. I like you.
You are the best Hollie. You have a wonderful future in front of you. Stay exactly the way you are. Perfect.
Didn’t she used to have like a Yorkshire accent???
She had a Lancashire accent XX
What people say about you is not really about you; it's about themselves - about what's going on inside their internal worlds... People who are truly happy would not say things that are hurtful to you... Enjoy doing what you truly love. Don't be afraid to let your light shine 💗
Hollie , I m stunned by ur beauty and musical skills
Love you Hollie. Good to see you again.
You have a beautiful voice and talent. Best of luck for the future.
I have nowhere close to the voice you have, but it brings me joy and hopefully nobody ears bleed. ;-)
When you spoke of fear I was reminded of Simon Sinek who talks about how fear and excitement release the very same chemicals into our bodies.
You are precious, absolutely inspiring
And here’s the REVEAL of the century! 😆
Holly I hope you still love singing Bc your voice shouldn’t silent, you’re a beautiful person and I hope you don’t for a second listen to any negativity, those people don’t matter.. the fans who love you and who you touch .. they matter, the ones that support you and appreciate you matter. ☺️ hope you are doing great
I lost all confidence in my voice for the last year or so but am finally starting to record again xx
Thank you for everything. You are good enough. Especially that voice. Lots of people out here over 50 who feel the same. Your a gift to the world.
Such a fine young lady. Very insightful reflection on your Britian's got talent experience.
So happy you have overcome your fears and you are having a wonderful life going forward.
Powerful words - thanks for all that you have given to everyone!
HOLLY,
I LOVED YOU AT 10 & COULD FEEL YOUR EMOTIONS ON THE TALENT SHOW, BUT YOU SANG PERFECTLY!!! NOW THAT YOUR OLDER YOU STILL SING PERFECTLY AND I STILL LOVE YOU. DON'T EVER STOP SINGING. FOLLOW YOUR DREAMS, BE HAPPY. YOUR THE BEST.
GOD BLESS YOU.🥰🙏👍❤😇😊
Hollie your an amazing young lady now's the Time to chase your dreams if you want to sing go for it the past is in the past think about the future go for it girl because you are worth it
So amazing to see you! I watched you when I was also the same age (now 21 too) and was amazed !!! love you
