  • My third read by Roald Dahl, after Matilda and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I'm sorry I haven't posted many videos lately. I haven't read much this year, and have been busy writing, plus working, and interacting with my new bird, who doesn't like me doing anything else but giving him constant attention. I have already filmed a writing update for November, which I'll probably tag onto a December Writing Update video before long. I also filmed my last book haul for 2023, and need to film my ranking of "23 books to read in 2023", and film a 24 books to read in 2024 video. So hopefully I'll be pumping out some more videos over the coming weeks. Thanks for the support thus far! Hope the upcoming year is great to you.
Oh! The reason I look especially shiny is because I didn't put on any makeup to keep the light from bouncing off me, because I didn't want the bird to kiss my face and lick up any of the makeup, which I imagine is NOT safe for birds. So I look very shiny because the overhead light is bouncing off me, and the camera sees it clear as day. I didn't use my regular light either, because I didn't want the light shining in the bird's eyes. As a result, this video may look shoddy/dark compared to some of my other ones. This will be the case for any videos with the bird, because I don't want to use the makeup or light I usually use. I imagine you guys like seeing the bird however, and I like him being in the videos as well if he's cooperative, so expect any bird videos to look a bit shoddy compared to other videos. I don't like looking shiny (I shower, I swear), but I don't want to expose the bird to any super bright lights or potentially toxic materials.

His childhood was rather dark. I read the book aloud to my 6 year old son, and I had to explain that things are a bit different now, in regard to medicine and child abuse in schools.
But I adore Roald Dahl so much ❤ I grew up with his books and could really relate to his snarky, dark sense of humor.
Thank you for this review ❤

Yeah I definitely like Dahl's writing style, even reading it for myself now. He's not just an author for kids. And he clearly wanted to push how it was wrong how the kids were mistreating each other and getting mistreated by some adults, particularly teachers. I'm eager to read "Solo" and see what he says about his WW2 years.

@@shaunholt Yes! Totally agree. I have the 16 book “kids” collection and literally read 2 hours to my son today to finish Boy. I’ll probably start reading him Solo tomorrow. Because following the sequence makes sense. After that, perhaps it’ll be Matilda. Have you read Esio Trot (Tortoise, spelled backwards). Such a sweet book. 🐢❤️

I like his writing style. It's easy to read and sprinkled with humor, sweetness, and some upsetting things. Keeps me invested.
