11 cars and the diesel, is that really even much of a load for the super choo?

It’s more than 734 could do, but still probably not close to Super Choo’s limit.

Compound mallet steam locomotive =100% raw torque and pulling power!!! Other than giant ocean vessels,or river towboats , articulated steam locomotives are about as strong as machines can get.

Is it just me but it seems 734 could handle the trains better than 1309. Almost every clip I have watched she is slipping a lot and having a tough time pulling up the hill. I have a friend that rode in the cab last year and said she stalled 4 miles from Frostburg and the diesel had to push the train. He said she had a very hard time and was slipping so much they were only doing 10 to 12 mph. I have seen 734 pull longer trains without a diesel and handled the trains better.

@@johnathanhardin152 your friend must’ve just come on a bad day. An articulated will always seem to slip a little more than a rigid engine just because there’s twice the chance of it happening given there’s two engines, but I’ve seen days where 1309 was very clearly handling the train on her own with more cars than 734 ever had, in the middle of winter, and the diesels weren’t helping. As for the speed, they usually only do 10-12mph, they have for the past several years even before 1309 went into service. I guess they wanted to slow down to actually let people enjoy the sights going by.
