Oh my goodness! I haven’t come across a video with so many advice, breaking best practices to secure your system in my entire life. Moreover, I fail to comprehend the purpose of all these instructions. Everything you demonstrated here can be accomplished with a single account.
@nickiogr - no, it can't! it's very bad idea to move the home folder of main user. It is risky. If your ext. disk would die or just disconnect you will loose the ability to work on that computer completely. If you will loose only the sync account then you can in just few clicks enable selected sync on main account and buy new ext. disk to fix the sync user.
@@morgonaut You can simply keep a dormant copy of your main user on internal drive and activate old homedir path using a 2nd admin account. Then restore external home folder from Time Machine or CCC or whatever backup solution you should have anyway.
@Mike-h7h5k - it's clear you absolute didn't get the point of the solution in this video. But it's OK. Use whatever solution you want, I will happily use mine, because it's perfectly working and reliable unlike your adviced one
Maybe I do not get the problem you are trying to solve. Nevertheless you should never create admin accounts with easy passwords that auto login on boot. This is a major security risk that everyone should avoid.

Hello Madam. I would like to ask you a question on another subject. While I was undecided, and after watching several videos about the 15-inch Air M3, it was finally yours that finally convinced me to opt for this model. Which I did a few weeks ago. I have done something similar but it was a more manual process. This is a great tutorial. I do have a concern with the auto-login. If you turn that off, then have a process to login to the second account first, then do the fast switching, with having it never go to sleep, would it still do the syncing? I like to keep the admin accounts more secure. Thanks.
People that afford $700+ annually for 12TB iCloud don’t buy base model Macs to save a few bucks and then go thru a non supported configuration they need to maintain each OS upgrade.
@Mike-h7h5k - the most expensive Mac mini that "millionaire" can buy has at max. 8TB disk = you have the same problem which my videos fixes! 12TB iCloud drive will not fit onto 8TB disk right? 🤣

@DavidHillock-g7t - no, you can buy for example 16TB drive but be even on the base 5GB iCloud 😇 Size of iCloud has nothing to do with how big disk you will buy.
@DavidHillock-g7t - how much data you will fit into your 5GB free icloud? 5GB = that's the amount you can sync via icloud. But icloud is not the only one, I use also on the same disk Dropbox, Box, Google drive so I sync much more data than my iCloud. You can do the same But in fact the Apple pricing I pay fot the 2TB was the best investment I could do

This all sounds very nice, but the problem with using a “local” drive for iCloud is that it is NOT available away from home. Hence, sharing it only works for devices at home. I use a 4TB external SSD for my documents and other very large storage needs. If I take my Mini anywhere, I also take the external SSD and a 13” monitor, keyboard, and mouse. I use my iPhone as a camera and mic. The sound on the Mini is not all that great, but it’s better than a sharp stick in the eye.
@jcinaz - are you aware what you claimed is not true at all right? Any of our local network shares can be accessible from anywhere on the planet where is internet. And I don't even count the fact why the hell you would want to connect to LOCAL disks to reach your iCLoud when you can simply upload/download files directly from iCloud again from anywhere on the planet when you're outside of your office/studio/home. 😇
@@morgonautMaybe because people do not have a fast internet connection or upload speed at all? Maybe because people don't want to upload all of their data in hands of a third party? Maybe because iCloud space is rather expensive, compared to an internal ssd upgrade (up to 8TB for the half of the price apple calls out)? Or an external drive or NAS attached? Maybe because working from local drives is way faster, especially if you do productivity work like foto or video editing? There are so much valid reasons out there not to use any cloud storage at all...

Hello Theresa. Fantastic step-by-step instructions for setting up and sharing iCloud storage via External Drive. I'm relatively new to how this works and wondering if you have to keep the External Drive On continuously (you checked Never Sleep in all the Power options), then wouldn't the Hard Drive potentially get overheated and experience a shorter lifespan? Thank you.
@connernguyen3820 - of course you need to have that drive connected when your user and all the date is there :) And no, my SSD will not overheat in my adapter. And those I linked in video description too
@@morgonaut Thank you Theresa. One other question: Do you back up the iCloud from the External SSD since if if fails then theoretically all data within External SSD will be lost.
It is very interresting can i use it like my external storage is the cloud? i mean i dont want to buy big icloud storage i want to use only my external storage but like it is acting like my main storage ? so the same thing but withoute buying icloud storage ?
@janoo85 - yes there is also way how to configure on your local hardware your own cloud accessible from anywhere. But that's not what this video is about, that's completely different topic and if enough people would want to see it, then I can produce video about it too

Great video (and thanks for the possibility of having the audio in another language, I'm French). I wonder if it's possible to apply this model but this time to a NAS instead of an external hard drive? The possibilities could be even greater (RAID5, even greater storage capacity, etc.). Maybe an idea for a future video! Thanks
@fredtrendy - no, NAS would not work for this exact setup. But there are other ways, one of them I mentioned at the end of video. I configure servers and file servers all the time for clients. If enough people will be interested I'm willing to produce video about that too
Great tips and idea. Happy new year to you. Question at the end instead of sharing, Can you just set persimmons for the other user to have read and write sort of like how they had in in the past. Or did they take that away?
@ryanzmuda3167 - I don't have any permission issues. Don't force any permission! Let the iCloud do its thing. You can mess up all your files and you don't want that I guess 😇
Great video as always! thanks for sharing it. If you have time, I would like to ask you something. I have two macs, and I would like to have shared storage, can this only be achieved with a NAS? thank you!
Very interesting: have to go through video again. I have not understood how or moment when you trick computer think it is real icloud drive and especially how other devices will be tricked. Could such sollution work even with drive attached to Airport express or other wifi router with usb? It would be much more comfortable solution for macbooks in case one would not forgot to put them on charger every time :) And one last question. What lovest version of MacOS could support such hack? Some wery old mac mini could work as NAS like that.
I'm a big fan of installing the whole OS on the external drive - TB4 is faster than internal storage. Bonus the internal drive is hardly used at all = great durability
@gosekinz - "I'm a big fan of installing the whole OS on the external drive" - that's great, you are free person, you can do whatever you want. I would never install whole system on external USB or TB disk. It's very risky business. On server yes, no problem, but not on USB/TB.
I loved your video and I start following now, my question is this in all links I didn’t saw any 12 tb , I will love that link . My second questions is the backs up, you doing in the main account, is that’s correct ? My last question they can be synchronized, with my iPhone and iPad as well all photos and documents
@xabierlanda8998 - as I said on Amazon you can buy any disk you want. Not many people want 12TB, most of them will aim at the lower options. And as I also said several times in thsis video all is synchronized across all devices connected to same Apple ID - you should watch and listen more carefuly
@ first at all thanks for the quick answer, as a photographer I need at much is possible , so any brand that you recommend, I will definitely appreciate, thx. Xabier
@xabierlanda8998 - yes buy any dist you want. But if you buy crappy disk, then don't be surprised when you loose data. In video description I recommend proven disk
@Ultrarock87 - if you would get the disk I recommend in videoi description it should do it. But in general your system and audio files should be on different disks = you can buy two of those disks and problem solved 😇
I've already read in a comment that yes, thank you! I'm going to try it, but now I have another question: what happens if I turn on the computer without the SSD connected? I have a macbook pro and this can happen.
@ I read somewhere it has less power. I will ask the genius at the Apple Store. Thanks for the video. Only ask as I have been having issues creating a time machine backup using usb 3 external drives.
@hamadminmgr - it obviously depends on what exact 3 drives you are talking about. I'm talking about NVMe or SATA SSDs which don't require too much power unlike for example 3.5" mechanical hard drives
@andregobi2238 - yes you can. In this video as I said for demonstration purposes I used this adapter and disk. Also don't forget not all Macs have TB3-5, but all of them have USB!
I might be wrong but: You should be able to access it from any device or account associated with your AppleID. I believe you can have up to six devices.
Moving the User Folder to an external drive breaks Spotlight and Finder Tags with iCloud Drive Documents and Desktop syncing on macOS 15.0. Is this now fixed, or is there a workaround?
Time Capsules are incredibly slow. Much slower than the hard disk read and write speed or the ethernet connection. Hardly a problem for incremental Time Machine backups, but like molasses for file sharing.
Hi. I have seen your video and think is interesting but I have several doubts. Does this only works for sharing documents? I'm planning to buy a Mac Mini M4 and I know the audio units only can be installed in a system folder. With this proceeding is possible to install the audio units in the cloud created? In Windows is possible to create virtual links (I don't know the exact name) and you can install the VST where you want or need. Is anyway to do this in MacOs? Thank you so much.
@vicentebalaguergomez3273 - audio units or any other audio plugins can be offloaded to different storage with no problem. I do this for audio production houses quite often
Hi, thank you for this clever solution!! 20:47 I’ve been banging my head for years about this problem that iCloud is not an offload storage space but a sync space which indeed means your local drive needs to be as big as your iCloud Drive. Even the “optimise Mac storage” never worked for me because when I forced certain folders to be offloaded locally to save local space then after some minutes he was automatically re-downloading them, very frustrating. Big thumbs up for your solution. One question though: is it possible to repeat this technique on several computers in different locations (my team is working in different locations) and to share 1 iCloud Drive so that there is only 1 general synced location (like a central server) where we can see each other’s files. This would replace my current central storage Synology NAS that is now being accessed by sFTP by my team. I was trying to ditch the NAS approach and work via iCloud untill I ran to the formentioned problem of local storage limit so I gave up until I saw your video !! 🙏🙏🙏
@jorgedewulf9688 - that's exactly why I "developed" this solution - as I said at the end of video I configured several instances of macos on our servers. All run 24/7 in the background. Each user have access to iCloud Drive, Dropbox, Google Drive etc. locally and the server is doing all the network traffic for them. All over network even from outside, so no external drives etc. :) But that's different league for different people
@jorgedewulf9688 - and you should stop using overpriced Synology crap if you care about your data. I configure personally remotely proper servers for studios all over the globe
@@morgonaut thank you for your reply. Not sure if I’m following what you mean with “I configured several instances of macOS on our servers”? Is there a seperate server involved in your setup that receives all the files from different Mac’s and that syncs with iCloud Drive? Or is it just (for example) 5 Mac’s with external NVMe (on different locations) that are syncing with iCloud Drive with your video’s setup without any extra server in between? Could you elaborate please? Thank you! :)
@jorgedewulf9688 - in the beginning of the video I asked you two times to listen carefully. No, you don't need server for it - you can clearly see all my steps, so no server was involved. I said "there is more elegant or better way" - the way with server involved
@@morgonaut I know there was no server involved in your steps and I did watch carefully :-) but in your video it was for 1 Mac, my question was specifically for different Macs on different physical locations (and not different devices in 1 physical location) sharing 1 iCloud Drive space. Appreciating your insight, thank you very much.
The only thing I don't get is why you use a second (new) user account for that. You could move your icloud with the main account to an external drive as well. Or am I missing something!?
@nurb2kea - yes you are missing a lot. I said two times in this video how important it is to watch and listen carefully as well as follow it step by step. it's stupid idea to move the home folder of main user. It is risky. If your ext. disk would die or just disconnect you will loose the ability to work on that computer completely. If you will loose only the sync account then you can in just few clicks enable selected sync on main account and buy new ext. disk to fix the sync user.
@@morgonaut Thanks, I listened carefully but I missed the sec. when you switched to the second account, and realised that you'll have another homefolder. Totally ignored this fact, that's why it mixed up in my thinking. And sure it now makes sense to me. AND good to know how to, before messing up something...🙂🙃
Dumb question: so if I want to put about 10TB worth of files in my "local" iCloud NVME/SSD drive, it means I should also have an iCloud subscription of at least 10TB, correct? So it can sync in both my "local" and my Apple-server iCloud drive, yes?
Let's say I have the 50gb iCloud plan. If I use an external 12TB drive and set it up like in the video, will I be able to access all 12 TB from anywhere or will I be restricted by my iCloud plan's 50GB limit? I feel like you covered this topic in the video but I'm confused when you say 12 TB iCloud Drive whether you mean the paid iCloud plan or a 12 tb local drive set up that you are calling the iCloud Drive.
@@morgonaut I found the comment. Thanks! All of the local iCloud Drive will sync even on 5GB plan. ICloud plan will limit Apple's storage to 5GB but new files will still be pushed to and received from local drive. Awesome!

I don't understand why you need a second account to use your external USB drive? I've seen other You-tubers use a second account as a recovery in case the home folder that has been moved to an external drive becomes disconnected from the port, but I don't quite follow on the presented scenario why if you aren't moving the home folder to the external drive.
@teknerd - I answered this here in comments already so many times :( Read comments before commenting! because it's very bad idea to move the home folder of main user. It is risky. If your ext. disk would die or just disconnect you will loose the ability to work on that computer completely. If you will loose only the sync account then you can in just few clicks enable selected sync on main account and buy new ext. disk to fix the sync user.
@@2plus2catsApple intends iCloud storage to be space they host for you. They’ve never had a problem with people using their own NAS and accessing it remotely. This is a clever internet connected NAS technique that makes it feel well integrated into the Apple ecosystem. But ultimately the data is not being stored on Apple’s servers so you aren’t gaming Apple out of free iCloud space. And the user assumes all risks associated with the local drive, backups, and data loss. People who pay for iCloud want the “indestructible” backup. That’s where the premium is. Otherwise theft, house fires, crashed drives, accidents, lightning strikes, etc can still permanently wipe out your data. People will still pay for iCloud space even if they use this elegant NAS technique.
12tb is 60 usd/month. This is 720 a year. Is it really worth it instead of building a NAS and sharing it? I'm grabbing a m4 mini to pair with a 14tb HDD, set a VPN to home network and use with containers. Not using macos for myself as it's hostile to user IMO in comparison to anything lunux/windows.

Thank you, excellent video. I knew about your channel but had not subscribed. I did so just now. I am a long time Mac user but new to this iCloud stuff. I do have a paid iCloud account but it is not much as I only wanted my contacts synced to iCloud. For my Mac Studio Max, I am using a 4TB external SSD and using Time Machine to do backup to an External 16TB hard drive. I am a single user and do not need to share files with other team member. However, there are times that I want to access my files remotely. Is your iCloud solution for that kind of application? Just not sure what practical use I can get out of a local iCloud Drive. I have considered a NAS but so far the cost has kind of caused me to not do it.
i'm completely confused by this entire process ...need to watch video a few more times. I've seen other videos that explain similar process to move your HOME folder to external source (which some say could potentiallly cause issues when updates occur since it's not a supported option by apple ). i feel like this is doing kinda the same thing but confused about the iCloud aspect and the ssd that is connected. Feeling lost now ...maybe it will click soon.

I am sure I am missing something here. But, Why not move the home folder for primary account to the external drive when you first setup your mac instead of creating this extra local user account?
@mdnet78 - I ansered that here many times already = read comments FIRST! So for the last time: because it's stupid idea to move the home folder of main user. It is risky. If you will loose only the sync account then you can in just few clicks enable selected sync on main account and buy new ext. disk to fix the sync user.
@alexanderwiltschek7571 - if you want to sync 12TB of data to iCloud Drive then you need obviously also have 12TB iCloud+ subscription. That's obvious. But nobody is forcing you to buy 12TB subs. 😇 I plan video about own cloud solution
@ ok thnx understood. but if i have a 200GB cloud space (3€) and not intend to have more cloud space, then a 500Gb model (200 € onetime more) is much more comfort then the complex sync solution (when you just use it for this). so own cloud solution is more interesting then saving 200 bugs 😉 for just 200GB cloud storage.
@alexanderwiltschek7571 - it's no problem for me to configure for you your own cloud storage if you would want. You can always at any time schedule a Zoom video call and remote session with me so I can help you right in front of your eyes. Link is in video description.
@alexanderwiltschek7571 - Don't use overpriced Synology if you do care about your data. There are much better, much cheaper and much safer ways how to store/share data on network

@markedwards4879 - "I have some serious concerns about security with this, especially having the second account log in automatically" - what is forcing you to always log in manually instead of automatically???
You should let people know that you need to turn off iCloud Photos/Drive sync on your main account otherwise it would accumulate storage in your Library folder on the 256GB internal drive defeating the original purpose. Why not simply offload your main account to the external drive (preferably a thunderbolt drive) and keep everything iCloud simple. Keeping a 2nd admin account for "rescue" is always advisable, but I don't see the benefit of a separate partial iCloud "sync-account" vs utilizing say a 2TB NVME drive in an external thunderbolt enclosure using your main account. A 3rd alternative would be to keep the main account on internal drive, but symlink iCloud and other large folders to the external drive. Your thoughts?
@Mike-h7h5k - I answered this here in comments already so many times :( Read comments before commenting! because it's stupid idea to move the home folder of main user. It is risky. If your ext. disk would die or just disconnect you will loose the ability to work on that computer completely. If you will loose only the sync account then you can in just few clicks enable selected sync on main account and buy new ext. disk to fix the sync user.
@Mike-h7h5k - also as I said in this video I tried symbolic links = not the way to go here. Maybe as I asked on the beginning of this video two times you should watch and listen carefully

But after a year of experience as a user on your side, is your enthusiasm still the same, especially in terms of performance and heating? I am not a multimedia professional and I do not think I am asking for anything too greedy but your experience and opinion interest me. Thank you and it is really always a pleasure to listen to you! 😊
@oasis9194 - I can answer to only very quickly because of the amount if interest in my videos and amount of comments I'm getting. Yes, I still use my 15" MacBook Air every day for ordinary tasks like web browsing, emails, Discord, WhatsUp etc. Great companion.

- I have a base-model Mac mini (256GB) and a 4TB external drive, along with a 2TB iCloud plan. If I use the “second user on external drive” method, can I store my full-resolution iCloud Photos library on the external drive?
- How does Apple handle storage in this case? Will syncing stop once I exceed 2TB in iCloud, even though my external drive has more space?
- For iCloud Photos syncing, will my iPhone photos automatically sync to the external drive, or is additional setup required?
Thank you again for all the great tips!
@johnkraith4 - yes, as I said in this video I use this method exactly for iCLoud Drive + Photos = all files downloaded to my disk, not just in cloud

Great video - thank you. So if I want to have 8TB drive plugged into my desktop, do I have purchase 8TB of cloud storage from Apple?
@DavidHillock-g7t - no, you can buy for example 16TB drive but be even on the base 5GB iCloud 😇 Size of iCloud has nothing to do with how big disk you will buy.
@@morgonaut If I have the base 5GB iCloud, then I will only be able to sync 5GB to the external drive, right?
@DavidHillock-g7t - how much data you will fit into your 5GB free icloud? 5GB = that's the amount you can sync via icloud. But icloud is not the only one, I use also on the same disk Dropbox, Box, Google drive so I sync much more data than my iCloud. @SpiderSato - yes, Immich is probably the way to go in coherence with some smart way of synchronization. I will also produce some video about it
This all sounds very nice, but the problem with using a “local” drive for iCloud is that it is NOT available away from home.
Thank you for this smart workaround.

@connernguyen3820 - of course you need to have that drive connected when your user and all the date is there :) And no, my SSD will not overheat in my adapter. And those I linked in video description too
@@morgonaut Thank you Theresa. One other question: Do you back up the iCloud from the External SSD since if if fails then theoretically all data within External SSD will be lost.

If enough people will be interested I'm willing to produce video about that too
It would be great 👍
Great tips and idea. Happy new year to you. Question at the end instead of sharing, Can you just set persimmons for the other user to have read and write sort of like how they had in in the past. Or did they take that away?

Could such sollution work even with drive attached to Airport express or other wifi router with usb? It would be much more comfortable solution for macbooks in case one would not forgot to put them on charger every time :)
And one last question. What lovest version of MacOS could support such hack? Some wery old mac mini could work as NAS like that.
@Aladinzc - all your questions I already answered here in comments several times ☹️
I'm a big fan of installing the whole OS on the external drive - TB4 is faster than internal storage. Bonus the internal drive is hardly used at all = great durability
@gosekinz - that's very bad and risky idea 😇 But if you like it then enjoy it
What are you going to be in that internal drive after 5 years?
@gosekinz - "I'm a big fan of installing the whole OS on the external drive" - that's great, you are free person, you can do whatever you want. I would never install whole system on external USB or TB disk. It's very risky business. On server yes, no problem, but not on USB/TB.
external drives are certainly not faster than mac mini internal drives
Wouldn't your online storage be maxed out the moment you put a file larger than 5GB to sync between devices and the icloud website?
@njpme - yes, that's why as I said on my main account I pay Apple for the 2TB iCloud+
Hi Maria, thanks for the video, this Iclod System is fast enough to put your samples and any other audio related like Pro Tools sessions etc?
@Ultrarock87 - if you would get the disk I recommend in videoi description it should do it. But in general your system and audio files should be on different disks = you can buy two of those disks and problem solved 😇
Great solution!
Does it work with Google Drive?
@brunomarq - I don't use Google Drive, but same way I have set up for example Dropbox
I've already read in a comment that yes, thank you! I'm going to try it, but now I have another question: what happens if I turn on the computer without the SSD connected?
I have a macbook pro and this can happen.
@brunomarq - then it will obviously not log into the sync user but give you the option to log into the main account =- no problem at all
@@morgonaut perfect, thank you!
The front usb does not have as much power as the rear ones. Therefore is there a risk of it not being mounted properly?
@hamadminmgr - that's not true, front ports have enough power to drive a disk like this
@ I read somewhere it has less power. I will ask the genius at the Apple Store. Thanks for the video. Only ask as I have been having issues creating a time machine backup using usb 3 external drives.
@hamadminmgr - it obviously depends on what exact 3 drives you are talking about. I'm talking about NVMe or SATA SSDs which don't require too much power unlike for example 3.5" mechanical hard drives
you can use an external ssd, it has Thunderbolt 4
@andregobi2238 - yes you can. In this video as I said for demonstration purposes I used this adapter and disk. Also don't forget not all Macs have TB3-5, but all of them have USB!
are u able to access the "icloud" drive from outside your home network?
I might be wrong but: You should be able to access it from any device or account associated with your AppleID. I believe you can have up to six devices.
@therealbenyu - you can access iCloud and iCloud Drive from anywhere on the planet if you have internet. connection 😇
hola Terese como estas, tanto tiempo espero que bien desde Argentina te sigo desde hace tiempo. gracias por tus aportes
@rodrigotrani9943 - greetings to Argentina 🇦🇷
Can you make an Ansible Role for this?
Moving the User Folder to an external drive breaks Spotlight and Finder Tags with iCloud Drive Documents and Desktop syncing on macOS 15.0. Is this now fixed, or is there a workaround?
@ShoutingMan - I can'r agree with your claim. For example my Spotlight works perfectly
Teresa it is could be possible do this configuration with an old AirPort Time Capsule?
@carlosvaldovinos275 - I don't think so. From my experience Apple don't like to have such network based setups. But you can try it 😇
Time Capsules are incredibly slow. Much slower than the hard disk read and write speed or the ethernet connection. Hardly a problem for incremental Time Machine backups, but like molasses for file sharing.
@robertvsnow - you can place ansd SSD to Time Capsule. But it's still gonna be limited by the 1G networking it has = at teor. max. +-120MB/s
hi
i have mac studio M1 Max. do you suggest upgrading to M4 or not. thanks
@htrehtre-n4l - it depends for what exact workflow/use case you want it. I would need more info to suggest to you what would be better for you
@@morgonaut i use it for video editting .
@htrehtre-n4l - again, you didn't provide enough info. For color grading or just video editing :(
@@morgonaut , sure? Do you have any video showing the way to do it please? Whith Logic Pro as DAW or only with Cubase?
@vicentebalaguergomez3273 - no I didn't produce any video about it. I said I configure it for clients personally
Can this be done on any m1 Mac mini also ?
@dmkellett - as I wrote in video description this will work on any Mac
I love the “aaaaand!”.
@darylcheshire1618 - 😇
Dumb question: so if I want to put about 10TB worth of files in my "local" iCloud NVME/SSD drive, it means I should also have an iCloud subscription of at least 10TB, correct? So it can sync in both my "local" and my Apple-server iCloud drive, yes?
@jdapolo - no, you can put much more data to your external drive than what's the size of the iCloud Drive or iCloud+ subscription you have
Let's say I have the 50gb iCloud plan.
@RedShiftedDollar - answered here in comments already
@@morgonaut I found the comment. Thanks!
All of the local iCloud Drive will sync even on 5GB plan. ICloud plan will limit Apple's storage to 5GB but new files will still be pushed to and received from local drive. Awesome!
What is the adapter that had a lid on it! i didnt see that in your links TY
@cpluse2 - in video I used super crappy cheap one. I linked also cheap but much better one in video description
what is the problem with symbolic links? that would have been my first attemp as well
@wirklich_niemand - it was also the first way I tried. Try it yourself and you'll see where the problem with this solution is 😇
Can i use only a folder of the external drive instead of the entire drive?
@winnie-iu9mo - you can of course
Thanks so much
@LeeHarrington - I'm happy to help. Best thanks would be if you share my videos on forums/socials so it can help to more people and that will in return help to me to produce for you more quality content and still for free.
Can we still use FileVault with this method?
@generic_official - I see no reason why you shouldn't 😇
I don't understand why you need a second account to use your external USB drive? I've seen other You-tubers use a second account as a recovery in case the home folder that has been moved to an external drive becomes disconnected from the port, but I don't quite follow on the presented scenario why if you aren't moving the home folder to the external drive.
I think she did point the home folder to the external drive in the cloud sync account? (Before the reboot? Could be wrong?)
Until something goes wrong with the next macOS Update…
@yorkan213swd6 - this solution is as I said exactly the way Apple intended to be used
@2plus2cats - you can doubt whatever you want 😇 I use this solution for long time
@@2plus2catsApple intends iCloud storage to be space they host for you.
@@morgonaut But you earning money with it.
@2plus2cats - Apple gave you two options: 1. buy Mac with bigger disk or 2. use the solution I gave you. You choose
@SneakyJoeRu - what do you mean exactly by "hostile to user"? Can you be specific?
Sound is horrible on this video, video looks great though. Thanks
@Britpop-Tribute-Band - it's my voice what you don't like, not sound 😇
@@morgonaut Nah, your voice is fine. It's the mic, mic placement and post EQ. Sounds very harsh. I bet if you used a mic closer up you'd add some lovely bottom end to your timbre. Cheers Andy
@Britpop-Tribute-Band - believe me, I know well my own voice capabilities. No mic (even the great one I have) or EQ can make it better :)
@@morgonaut Try putting it very close to your mouth. It'll make a world of difference (Enjoy your continued engagement on this video from me)
@Britpop-Tribute-Band - darling, I'm a musician as you may know for over 4 decades. I'm not sure if you comment in a good will or just as a hater - please don't teach eagle to fly. My mic is all the time less than a feet away, maybe even half a feet. All is OK 😇

This is too complicated. I’ll spend $800 and get 2 TB. Thank you very much.
@joebonsaipoland - in fact this solution is easy compared to other stuff I teach people 😇
Thank you, excellent video.
@jimmygeorgiadis600 - it's bad idea to move the home folder of main user. It is risky. If your ext. disk would die or just disconnect you will loose the ability to work on that computer completely. If you will loose only the sync account then you can in just few clicks enable selected sync on main account and buy new ext. disk to fix the sync user. My solution is above that
oddly there are move videos that explain how to move the folder to external ssd rather the method you propose. why are no others posting videos about this method ? just curious
@jimmygeorgiadis600 - because they didn't have this brilliant idea as me. Someone is always smarter than others. That's why people follow my channels and take advantage of my free help. Unlike you 😇
interesting reply. keep on developing new unique solutions, more power to you.
@jimmygeorgiadis600 - don't worry, I'm eager to investigate and develop new ways and solutions all the time. It's my nature. Thank you
I am sure I am missing something here. But, Why not move the home folder for primary account to the external drive when you first setup your mac instead of creating this extra local user account?
@mdnet78 - I ansered that here many times already = read comments FIRST! So for the last time: because it's stupid idea to move the home folder of main user. It is risky. If your ext. disk would die or just disconnect you will loose the ability to work on that computer completely. If you will loose only the sync account then you can in just few clicks enable selected sync on main account and buy new ext. disk to fix the sync user.
but then you need to subscribe a large icloud storage model ? 12TB / 60 €

I have some serious concerns about security with this, especially having the second account log in automatically.
And achieve same thing doing this with your main account instead of this convoluted approach.
is that possible? without creating a send user? how?
