    My mom made mine for a birthday gift when I was 7 in 1970. Played with it until my adult years. The folks who bought our house in 2016 now have it for their kids. I want make one for my youngest grandson.

    we are ratchet and we hamerd it in the ground hard with a little copper pipe that is about 9 feet tall and duck taped the rope that we found on the road and we duck tape the rope to the ball and it takes 2 weeks for it to rip and we are using a volly ball and it works well.

    I made one. I used a bigger tire so it is heavy. You gotta really pull your weight from the top of the pole to get it to tip over, but if you hang on to the tippy top of the pole and jump-push it back upright, the thing will launch you up in the air and you can ride it back down on the other side!! Go back and forth!! Like a moon jump, pole vault, swing kind of a thing. Just hang on, jump, fly, land, and repeat. Great fun even without the tetherball attached!! I used a 10' steel pole cemented into the tire.

    • @schnoogens76
      @schnoogens76 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just don't let your body slam into the pole at the top. That can hurt! Then don't let go from the top either... thats a good way to break an ankle. But still, the reward outweighs the risk!! Lol

    Great video. Even cheaper just to dig a whole and fill it with concrete, similar to a fence post. That way no need to buy an old tire. Just a thought.

    thanks, but what did you use on the bottom of the tire? Does the concrete just dry? You at first had a plastic tarp down, and then at the end of video you had it sitting on grass. Does the concrete just dry and then its flat on the bottm of the tire too?

    • @HowToWithKristin
      @HowToWithKristin  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ya it just dries and comes off the plastic sheet. You don’t need to put anything else under the tire

    You had me at Milwaukee lost me at crocks lol very nice. How do you like the weight of the tire? I was thinking 100lbs + gets a bit bulky to move around.

    • @HowToWithKristin

    Paint it red or yellow [not green imho] with rattle can paint, so ppl see it, this is much safer! And clear coat with rattle can, it'll give it rich luster and protect red or yellow rattle can paint.

    Did you just use a standard car tire or similar? Or some uncommon size? Yours looked really stable so I'd like to use a similar sized tire.

    • @HowToWithKristin

      I think it’s just a standard size. Came off of a 2003 Acura.

    Two suggestions:
    1) Add a level to your list of tools. You are going to be a lot happier with the final product if that pole is perfectly plumb, because you can't do much about it once the concrete sets.
    2) Start with smaller drill bits. The video makes it look like you used a big one for everything. I hope you didn't. It's much easier to get a small hole started, then expand it with successively larger bits. A large drill bit will have trouble biting into the metal. A small one won't. Also: Clamp the pipe down (e.g., a vice, wood clamps, or even cinder blocks). Start the job with a punch (A nail will do if you don't have one) so there's a divot to drill into instead of the bit wandering around. A drill press will make things easier if you have one.
