Tết or Vietnamese Lunar New Year is one of the most festive time of the year. After a year of hard work, Vietnamese are looking forward to the long break to enjoy doing nothing but eating, drinking, and sleeping. What should a visitor expect during this time? The few weeks leading up to Tet is chaotic. Streets are busy and often experience traffic jam from the delivery of goods in and out of Ho Chi Minh City. Everyone is rushing to do last minute errands like shopping for clothes, food, and flowers. But once that's all done, people are chilled and enjoy time with family and friends.
Unlike many years before, everything would be shut for at least 4 days. These days, most businesses close 1/2 day on the 30th (eve of Tet) and Tet itself but re-open on the 2nd day of Tet. So it's not all bad. There is ample food available so don't worry about starving! Attractions also are closed on the two above mentioned dates as well. This period is also a great time to experience less crowded streets where you can go for a pleasant leisurely walk in city center. Tet is definitely worth experiencing both before and during Tet - they both offer unique experiences.

Hi - I’m glad you find my videos useful! September is still rainy season in southern Vietnam and will start to be pleasant in the North since it’s autumn. Beach weather is still good in central Vietnam. Hope that helps!

Hi! I'm visiting Saigon on 4th-14th Feb! Do you have any recommendations for which district to stay in during tet?

Staying in District 1 around Ben Thanh Market is always a good choice!
