Lose or not, just to be able to say you played against the greatest player of all time is something to be proud of. Would've loved to see Efren against Mosconi in their primes.
Mr Yednek is obviously an excellent player. After his first shot where he scratched I wasn't sure if he had what it takes but after he got an opportunity at the table I've been nothing but impressed by his play.
I was shooting around by myself at my local pool hall (in portland oregon) and he randomly showed up and asked if I wanted to play with him. I said sure. Needless to say I was quickly absolutely blown away by his skill, i'd never seen anyone that good up close. He told me he had just come from a tournament on the coast where he lost to the great Shane Van Boening. I was like wait what... you just played against SVB??? He ended up spending like 2-3 hours with me on the table, worked with me on my stuff, gave me some drills, critique, ran out with ease numerous times, and it was just a pretty awesome time. I'll never forget it, that's for sure. He's a true pro that works his ass off!
Earl Strickland is the greatest 9 ball player I've ever watched but Efren can play so many other different types of billiards at such a high level. And better than Earl at most. THAT is why he is the greatest to ever pick up a cue!
Not too many videos of Efren playing straight pool. Always a treat to see the GREATEST OF ALL TIME do his thing on the table... wish i knew the score though.
I made a comment years ago on AZBilliards that I thought Efren could run 600 plus in 14.1,given his ultra-precise cue ball and shooting ability...both far beyond the those of mere mortals, but all I got in response from other forumites was reasons why he couldn't. My opinion hasn't changed.
To me, this is inspiring. It's like watching a bunch of bears (very talented bears, to be sure. . .) who haven't quite figured out there's a unicorn in the room. And poor Michael--if he has a sense of humor--will get to tell his grandchildren one day that he learned more just racking than from most matches he played in.
not really a problem with Efren, he's used to it. If you've seen how crowded pool places here in the Philippines, especially when Efren is playing, you'd say that this place is so spacious. I'm more worried about his opponent, lolz.
There is nothing off-limits to Efren shooting abilitythat shot at 37 minutes and 10 seconds in I did not think there was no way that ball was going in but he makes everything look so easy and the reason that is because of his cue balls skills because where he makes it lands the next shot is always so
It's incredibly annoying! You would think being a popular, to say the least, billards hall it would be more spacious. I guess they want as many tables as possible to rack in the cash though.
Geez wtf was Michael Yednak thinking with that first turn at the table? He should know better as he is one of the better straight pool players in NYC. I guess guys that age just get star struck they are playing a legend like Efren and get so damn nervous. If you are playing with Efren, there's only 1 rule. Never miss a ball.

I think most players will have a lot of pressure when they play with Efren Reyes. So, that they want not to miss a ball is difficult.
