For goodness' sake, when you played Free's All Right Now, I thought "he's playing with the record and his guitar is turned down." But no, because when you went to do the high part and nailed, and I do mean flawlessly, the bends I was convinced I was right until you changed up the way it was played ever so slightly. Then when you went into the open A, tonally it differs because he plays a different shape using the A note on the lowest string rather than adding the B and E strings at the 5th fret. He plays it kind of like a G shape moved up 2 frets and uses the lower strings. But that said, it's the ONLY way I could tell it was you! And that's cool, because it's a choice of style and preference and sets you apart as an artist and player. Final Countdown, nailed it! Boys are Back, nailed it! Hotel CA, nailed it! Need I go on? Looking forward to part two. You probably know this, but just in case.. Dont forget to flip the neck pickup magnet or reverse the wiring on that pickup (not just turn the neck pickup around). The real magic of Greeny isn't due to the pickup flip, but a magnet flip. Back in the 80's, Gary Moore handed the guitar to a famous guitar tech named Jol (who later founded a famous high performance guitar company) and told him to "see what made it tick." Jol wrote that the original factory solder was still holding the pickup cover on, which means the magnet flip happened at the factory, rather than as an aftermarket modification. Peter Green originally claimed that "there was nothing magic about any of his guitars," and that they were all just as they came from the factory. Many years later, after goodness knows how many LSD trips (not to mention all those shock treatments) he changed the story to "I did the modification myself." You can choose to believe whichever story you like, but I'm more inclined to believe the earlier "nothing magic" quote, since the factory solder holding the pickup covers on was still intact. Either way, nice score on a sweet tribute. I may have to reconsider my earlier position on "Chibsins."😉
Yeah man! Gibson was also making stereo guitars like the ES models that were out of phase with one another. Its not crazy to think in the 50s, one or 2 would get mixed up! There supposedly are a few out there like that
@@SteveSterlacci Don't forget that the Gibson L6-S also came with switching options that included magnetically and electronically out-of-phase humbuckers, with its sealed Bill Lawrence pickups and six-way rotary chicken-head knob. Look....this has to STOP !!! And no I'm not talking about "BUYING" Chibsons, I'm talking about apologizing for buying them ! I don't actually have to explain this do I ?
The only issue I have with Chibson is people selling it as fakes. Though, when it comes to LP shapes you can only choose between Gibson (too expansive), Epiphone (not enough choice imo) and Tokai (nice but expansive). If Epiphone would have as many choices as Chibson for a good price then Chibson would die. But I have a feeling it kinda serves Gibson because people tend to buy real Gibson parts to mod these anyways.
I always wanted to buy a chibson and upgrade all the parts with Hella high quality parts so at the end of the day I have an insane guitar that didn't cost quite as much plus its unique to my tastes.
@@SteveSterlacci I wanna see it when you're done. If done right this guitar can sound and play like a real Gibson, and if you get someone real good who knows their shit with Gibson you can make it look more like a true Gibson, or just tots make it yours and say screw making it an as authentic as possible Gibson. I just love the options that come with these guitars.
@@RedDed228 Most of the parts, you don't want anyway. I wish they sold it without the parts. I replaced the hardware/ electronics on my Epi the same way your talking about. I started with Gibson '57 classic pickups, but ended up putting Duncan Pearly gates in. Also a Faber bridge with brass studs, and Kluson aluminum stop bar. I gutted the pots, and used CTS, with a good cap. It's a daily player. I have an expensive guitar, but I don't like letting it sit out on a stand.
Yes, part 2 would be cool. Is it an actual flame maple top, or veneer? Even maple cap with flame veneer would be cool like Epi is doing now. I tried this several years ago with a Chibson White LP Custom. I wanted to use it instead of my real Gibson LPC's, but it was a real POS. Felt like it was made from old pallets.. Even after I changed parts etc., it turned into a beater guitar at best. Fake customs are harder to pull off I guess. Good luck with the upgrades.
Very cool video. I currently own 3 Chibsons and a few other replica guitars. I’ve modded them all with better pickups and some with better hardware and electronics. My most recent Chibson is a Zakk Wylde Replica where I installed his signature EMGs. I also have a black Chibson LP Custom that I turned it into a John Sykes LP homage complete with mirrored pickguard etc. I also have real Gibsons and Epiphones. I think these Chibsons are great project guitars.
It's pretty. The real question is how well the wood was dried and aged, which I figure isn't all that well. Still, for $400 bucks it's worth the experiment.
My Chibson Greeny arrived this past weekend. In all honesty for the $340 I paid for it, I'm really impressed with it, and it's a bang for the buck guitar, even with all the sub par parts on it. It surprisingly has a 1 piece mahogany neck that feels really good on it. Upgrade the parts/electronics, and get a good setup and you will be good to go! A few things to know if you are thinking of purchasing one of these. -The finish is not a lacquer finish -The relic job on the face of the headstock looks pretty cheap in person, but is an easy fix. - And my only real gripe, is the pickup routes are bigger than what you would see on an actual Les Paul, so you will not be able to use, U.S. or Gibson M-69 tall boy pickup rings.
Intonation is the name of the game on these. Some are next to impossible. If you buy one of these do so thru a ebay seller who stocks these in the US. Then you can keep getting guitars sent until you get one you like. But i have to say ive never gotten a bad one of these and they keep getting better. But the frets usually need alot of work and the intonation and nut have to be confronted. These are a lot of fun to learn how to do work on a guitars and some of them are def worth the effort. Just dont go pawning it off as a real one, remember folks Karma is not always a pretty ol lady. But for you who cant afford the real deal. First thing i do is take the guitars apart. Electronics, tuners etc. Then straighten the neck. Check frets. Bone nut. Replace bridge with tone pros. Shockingly some of these have wax potted pickups that are not too shabby. Tuners. But once again i would do some research and only purchase these thru ebay where you have a 100% Money Back. But if you get a good example of one, just put the right parts into it and take your time with the frets and you will be shocked at the results. I own real Gibsons and these are just getting ridiculously close. But there are more of these that are BAAAAAD than good. So a little research goes a long way and choose the right seller.
@@ctcards2636 thank you so much for the response. I was actually looking into eBay when I first saw this, and was hoping it was a “safer option” I’m glad you confirmed, I may have to pull the trigger on one of these as I just do not feel like spending 5-7k on an R9.
@@kylepainter1384 It was nice to order one of these that was already in the US and was at my house in 6 days. Also as i said ya got 30 days to exchange or get your $ back. So its a no brainer when purchasing one of these. :-)
You could just by a regular R9 or USA standard 50s and put a set of Duncan green magic pickups or you could take the custombuckers and replace the A3 magnets with A2 magnets and flip the A2 magnet around for the neck pickup so it's out of Phase . Remember despite what some believe simply turing the neck pickup around does not put it out of Phase.
If you want to take this guitar a bit further you could fit montys guitars Bethnal Green humbucker set which are exact recreations of the original pickups in the real greenie.
Damn it now I want a Black Beauty one. I'm def interested to see how you go about improving on it. If I can get one of these, and drop a few hundred more in, and end up with something that looks/plays better than an Epiphone I'm all in.
I own real Gibsons, but some of these are so close its scary. I like to have one of these around and see if anyone can pickup if its a fake or not. 90% of the time no one knows. Ive given away the other 2 I owned and they go on to live happily played lives. Upon each new one i randomly buy they have indeed gotten better and better and some of them play incredibly well for guitars in the $250 or less range. I dont pass these off as real Gibsons, but they are real guitars. Ive seen some of these have better quality control than guitars costing 5x their price. Because each of these has gotten better, i dont think its easy to figure them out. Because just a few years ago they were still waaaaay off on certain things. Well those things are magically starting to appear on these closer to the read deal. I love my real Gibson guitars, but i wont buy another. These guitars are close enough when done right where i just dont see the point in spending the crazy $ on a Gibson. Ive played thousands of guitars and these recent guitars are jaw dropping and meanwhile Gibsons have been so hit or miss in recent years in build and quality of the woods etc. Nothing will ever beat a real Gibson, but for the money you can save to "almost" have that now makes more sense and even less sense in attaining the actual real deal. Gibson has and will continue to produce amazing guitars but i wont be limited to any of the big names overall anymore. There are so many skilled people out there making guitars these days, so theres no shortage of places to look. But Gibson needs to strike a deal with having like a Gibson Import series or something and finally slap Gibson onto a NON US made guitar. But that would make too much sense seeing that everyone else is doing just that. Bu Gibson is continuing to be innovative..... I guess after youve spent the amount of $ I have thruout the years on Gibson guitars, you dont feel as bad haha. I still love my 90s Les Paul Classic Plus tops. But they dont need to be taken on the road anymore than they need to.
I agree! I just got a '92 classic plus top in tobacco burst. Killer axe! This chibson doesnt get blown away by it either somehow. And ive got all the parts lying around to upgrade it
5:30 well actually, Gary had the neck pickup flipped back to its 'normal' position in the mid - '70s, and all throughout the 1980s'. It wasn't until 1990, when Gary had the pickup reversed back round again.
Check the local pawn shops man, they are there ! I scored a great one there for $294 out the door with tax and a hard shell case !! It plays like a dream and sounds amazing, screw 2600-10,000 dollar Greedy Gibson ! I honestly use my amplifier for my gain, so there's no need to change the pick ups out, and the tuning pegs are decent enough to keep them on the guitar. The fretboard is smooth and finish and color are amazing ! Copycat guitar or not, I just saved close to 3gs by buying this axe and you also get the benefit of saying you don't need a premium over priced guitar to sound great and have fun ! I'll get over the Gibson logo, the deep impressioned serial number made in the USA on the back lol lol !
I paused my Ben Eller video so I could be the first commenter. Looks like it says Gibson on the headstock. Is that 🤔 legal? I probably won't run out and buy one but that seems like a good deal. You can always do some upgrades at that price. Keep swinging 🎾 . Gale

Hey man, I bought a gibson tribute recently. How do you think one of these stacks up to that? The way you describe the nitro neck makes me wonder how close they may be, or if this one you've shown may feel even nicer?
Itll be nice, but different. Real gibsons definitely have a thing to them. But after a ton of upgrading, the conversation becomes much more personally subjective
@SteveSterlacci would you see this as being worthwhile to purchase if I didn't intend to upgrade it? Without any of the tools or know-how anything I'd upgrade would need to be done by a tech at the local music shop.
@SteveSterlacci thanks for your reply Steve. I ended up ordering one. I'm hoping I will be content with it as it arrives but if not I'll have to try see if a local guitar tech will upgrade it for me.
Buy an EARLY ( not recent with cut away neck heel) Vintage brand PGGM that comes with reversed neck pick up/ out of phase sound. Prefer it to my actual Les Paul.
I owned a all mahogany Gold Top Chib and I had a vintage burst that had a maple top with a veneer over it. Mahogany back. Both had Rosewood FBs. I really dig their take on the 50s neck, but if you have short fingers beware these necks may not be your friend. I found the Gold Top was a bit darker in tone, the burst with the maple top sounded brighter like it should. Def the examples of these i have are pretty nice. But there are so many of these that are not built correctly. Make sure ya do your homework on who you buy these off. But both the older ones I owned weights were about on par with the real Gibson it was replicating. These are heavy guitars.
I had a 374 us dollars chibson, a black one with p90s. It was too heavy for me. Im into hss strats really. 370 us $ should be the price for Gibsons. 500 at most.
Steve Sterlachi shares his purchase of a Greeny-style guitar as a tribute to Gary Moore. It's a budget-friendly option that surprises him with its appearance, setup, and playability. He discusses its features and issues, like the bridge, pickups, and minor inaccuracies. He plays it clean and with various pedals to showcase its sound. Steve paid $370 for it and plans to further upgrade it with high-end components. He emphasizes honesty about its authenticity and considers a follow-up video for modifications.
The middle being out of Phase is what made the greeny model famous and is the what made the guitar legendary...if it's not our of Phase then you are just buying it for the look and as far as looks there is nothing unique or special about greeny. It's looks like any other dirt lemon fade.

@@RedDed228 ive played chibsons, ive played gibsons. Its not even close
@@Ottophil yeah I get what you mean even upgrading all the parts in the world won't make a bad feeling guitar feel any better.
Like the vid. Love to see and hear the upgrades in a part 2 video….
Great video Steve. Definitely a good option for anyone without a big budget
Sounds nice, you dont need a 5 figure guitar. Little by little you can go on and change hardware to get it sounding like you want.
Definitely would love to see part 2!

@@SteveSterlacci awesome
It's pretty. The real question is how well the wood was dried and aged, which I figure isn't all that well. Still, for $400 bucks it's worth the experiment.
My Chibson Greeny arrived this past weekend. In all honesty for the $340 I paid for it, I'm really impressed with it, and it's a bang for the buck guitar, even with all the sub par parts on it. It surprisingly has a 1 piece mahogany neck that feels really good on it. Upgrade the parts/electronics, and get a good setup and you will be good to go!
A few things to know if you are thinking of purchasing one of these.
-The finish is not a lacquer finish
-The relic job on the face of the headstock looks pretty cheap in person, but is an easy fix.
- And my only real gripe, is the pickup routes are bigger than what you would see on an actual Les Paul, so you will not be able to use, U.S. or Gibson M-69 tall boy pickup rings.
Where did you get yours?
@@ctcards2636 "Already in the US"? I cannot find anyone selling these in the USA? All of them are shipped from China?
Let's see that Part 2!
Thats in part2 and 3 coming soon. Thats also pretty much what theyre doing with the upcoming greeny standard
I subscribed and looking forward to part 2
Thanks Anthony! Its already up! Working on part 3 now
If you want to take this guitar a bit further you could fit montys guitars Bethnal Green humbucker set which are exact recreations of the original pickups in the real greenie.
You have me intrigued
Id love to try those! I put gibson custom buckers in (part 3 coming soon) part 2 is currently up
Looks great, sounds great!
Thanks Hunter. Its a pretty great axe!
Damn it now I want a Black Beauty one. I'm def interested to see how you go about improving on it. If I can get one of these, and drop a few hundred more in, and end up with something that looks/plays better than an Epiphone I'm all in.
Thanks! Part 2 is up and 3 is being edited
And ive got all the parts lying around to upgrade it
Nice video. I just upgraded my chibson too to fool around with it and compare it to my Gibson.
Sounds awesome, link to where to buy this guitar?
thank you for this very informative video!
Thanks for checking it out!
I’d be checking those frets for lead.
Nice work fella,
Thanks 👍
I'm glad that you're satisfied with your purchase! Although I was wondering how the truss rod on these guitars are like?
Hex screw. Not like a real gibson 5/8ths nut
Where can we buy it, can you give a link?

Hi Steve yes your right ,the rick guitars go for more than real Gibsons ,someone commented that slash guitar was a fake not me.
All cool man! Thanks for checking out the vid
I ordered a greeny! Hope it's a good one! Thanks
I'd love to see all your Gibson LPs in a vid... Cheers, bro
5:30 well actually, Gary had the neck pickup flipped back to its 'normal' position in the mid - '70s, and all throughout the 1980s'. It wasn't until 1990, when Gary had the pickup reversed back round again.
90s era is my favorite. So thats what I go by 🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️ I didnt know it was right side up at that point!
Mod that puppy…big thumbs up to a part 2 vid!!!!
Definitely would like to see the mod upgrade vid if your so inclined.
Great video! I would love to mod one of these as well. Would you mind sending me the link of where you bought this?
Thank you.
It sounds pretty good. And looks great. The Chinese have been really doing a lot better with their replicas.
Where did you get that? everyone I’ve seen comes from China and I don’t wanna wait six months.
I’ve got a Gibson USA version and want this!
I would buy one of these for sure... nice vid!
I paused my Ben Eller video so I could be the first commenter. Looks like it says Gibson on the headstock. Is that 🤔 legal? I probably won't run out and buy one but that seems like a good deal. You can always do some upgrades at that price. Keep swinging 🎾 . Gale
Thanks Gale! It does 😅. I may add a small sticker that says "not" on it though. After some upgrades itll be real nice!
That would be hilarious 😂
I bought one I liked it out of boxPlay nice out of the box looks great I’m on a hot rod and like you did different pick ups in the hardware
The part 2 idea would be cool.
It sounds good to me!! Especially for 400 bucks!! Can't even buy an Epiphone that cheap!!
Yeah its really not bad!!
So, where can you get the guitar? Temu seems to have a ton from different suppliers.

Nice video, I would prefer the guitar without the Gibson logo and made in USA. I will ask them if this feasible. What is the guitar weight?
Mine doesnt have made in usa on it for what its worth! Its under 8.5 i havent exactly weighed it yet
looks to me like you got a nice guitar for under $400, all that stuff can be corrected, if its metric bridge that can all be plugged and you can install genuine vintage if you so choose, pups everything, its the wood that matters, you can regret if needed..
I been wanting Kossof and a Ed King or Gary Rossington..
Check out part 2! I have part 3 coming soon
Hi Steve, love your videos! Could you please let me know where you ordered this guitar from? Thank you.

I actually just ordered one of these Greenys and plan to upgrade the bridge, too. What is the bridge post spacing on yours?
Hi! I would love to see another video where you have had and played this guitar for a while(maybe 3- 6 months), and then tell us what you think of it in terms of quality.
Gibson has been selling those Murphy Lab Greeny for 55k each(included Nashville VAT), which is crazily expensive, but I really dig the Greeny look, also I am a big fan of Gary Moore. So please let us know how the guitar has been doing in the future :D

Tough call there. Its a cool decorative piece at least. But stock is very much getting what you pay for..
@SteveSterlacci thanks for your reply Steve. I ended up ordering one. I'm hoping I will be content with it as it arrives but if not I'll have to try see if a local guitar tech will upgrade it for me.
@@GotsNoShins its cool to have either way IMO!

I know it's veneer flame top but seems like chibson actually use plain maple for the cap because it weight the same as gibson around 3.7kg
Great looking copy. Which site did you get it from. I’m surprised they don’t sell it with the bridge pickup reversed. Thanks
I dont want to promote the company but you can find a fb group called polaris that has that info

Chibsons can be really good if you replace everything, I’d say they can be just as good as a real Gibson.
Sure would be hard to pick one out after upgrading in a blind audio test
The middle being out of Phase is what made the greeny model famous and is the what made the guitar legendary...if it's not our of Phase then you are just buying it for the look and as far as looks there is nothing unique or special about greeny. It's looks like any other dirt lemon fade.
Thats all in part 2 and the upcoming part 3! Dont worry 🙃
That 'top' is a picture. It's not maple.
Its a veneer
