Jang Ki Yong says he was off key when he was singing the other time, but he was actually ON key, however, his voice “cracked”, and that comes from not working the vocal cords enough during the warmup. Vocal cord is like any other muscle in your body, and professional singers stretch it by running scales, shouting scales, etc before a performance. JKY is a very good singer, and could really do himself a lot of good to practice/learn these warmups with a vocal coach for a bit. By the way, the judges were very unforgiving of his voice cracking, BUT he maintained his key and continued to sing seamlessly..I thought that was very impressive, and his interpretation of the song was better than the eventual winner of that round singing Lee Seung Gi’s “You’re My Woman, Noona”.
