- Just something else unexpected to work on. Every since i bought this tractor this gear shift has been picky about going in neutral. I suspect due to being cracked that it wasn't lining up just right all the time. In hind sight i probably could of used some round stock and made one just like it. I have another repair to do on the clutch rod and will probably make my own rod and thread it.
Recently 7/12/2022 had same sort of problem... Stuck in low gear. It was easy enough to take the cover plate off (already off in your video) then remove about 6 bolts and remove both shift levers and the accompanying plate holding them. For my problem, I simply moved the shifter rod on the bottom right up and aligned it with the other one. Re-installed the shifters and was back in business. Great video for changing the shifting lever. Thanks for providing same as it was the ONLY one I found.
How did you get the snap ring in without marring the housing?

Good morning I have a 2640 that’s basically done the same thing that your tractor it acts like it’s hung between gears won’t move like jammed. That lever same lever you I was going from first to reverse when it did it. Appreciate your video I’m gonna go back out to the field here in a few minutes and see if that set screw That you spoke of is worked its way back and jamming that lever up. I hope that’s what it is. Is yours acted up anymore since you fixed it?

Basically the ball wears and it slips out of the shifter rails.
Always something to work on when you got farm equipment.
Nice repair. Must have had some load on the transmission. Why did you load up the trap?
+Jerome Bee Farm & Homestead , I took my other tractor over there and pulled, pushed, lifted to get any load off the transmission. Nothing I did made any difference. I moved the trap out of the wet area. When it rains water runs through it where it was.
I was looking for this exact job. And then the part that I needed, the snap ring installation, you didn’t film. 😢 How did you get the snap ring in there without marring the housing?
I don't remember having any problems. Would have used snap ring pliers if I needed them. There's many types of them . I've got several. Sometimes I just need a thin screwdriver. It's been too long ago.
Never did say if you got the screwdriver out. Could cause more problems swimming between the gears.
Yes I got the screwdriver out. I've been doing my own repairs for 40 years
I tried to tell you not to be speed shifting on that thing.
