    I grew up in the 80's as a kid and I certainly remember watching this film multiple times into the early 90's. It's odd - we as a world are heading towards major electrical consumption ahead. It was a good film and I haven't seen it in over a decade. I am now going to be 43 and the 80's cinema no matter how cheesy a film it could have been never fades.

      I generally do not like horror movies, but this one had a curious story. Nice when they have a story, and not just gross blood and gore.
      Now they need to make a movie warning us about those mysterious "smart" meters.

    Saw this in the early 90s and the only thing I really remember about it is the old man. He's awesome. Reminds me of the clergyman guy in "Poltergeist II" in that the film itself might be forgettable, but he isn't.

    Oh man I had completely forgotten about this movie until now! I remember watching it on the sci-fi channel in the 90s as a kid. We had to write a paper in 7th grade on a science themed movie and I did this one. I remember nobody else had even heard of that movie when I turned in the paper. Kinda freaked me out as a kid honestly especially all the weird stuff going on inside the TV.

      I wonder how they did the solder flowing special effect. Probably wasn't even solder, maybe some big mock-up of a circuit board. The arcing was probably superimposed as another layer in the image. Looked really freaky though.
      I had seen the DVD in the store, bought it, as it looked like an interesting movie. Never even heard of it before that, I think.

    • @SUPERFANpresents
      @SUPERFANpresents  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@yosefmacgruber1920 All those effects are macro photography of real objects (as far as I am aware). I suspect there is reverse photography with the solder effects and as was the way at the time the electric effects are superimposed.

    • @yosefmacgruber1920
      @yosefmacgruber1920 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SUPERFANpresents
      The solder flowing might not even be real solder. But some scaled-up model of something that they could more easily control. Yeah, the electrical arcing appears superimposed from some other scene.
      I generally do not like most horror movies, but this one was quite creative. Something to make you wonder, "What really is electricity?" As it it wasn't already mysterious enough already?

      The 2006 American movie was a remake of the 2001 Japanese film by the same name. This has snippets of those movies, but this is a good 80’s horror movie that is much simpler than the latest versions.

    Not great science content, and these days, I'm more worried about how "elites" will put AI to use instead of intelligent electricity, but it is a thriller, and you root for the protagonists, except the dad is pretty awful at first. Being a thriller, it made me jump at some points, and was pretty creepy - in spite of being more or less implausible. A really fun watch, so long as that's what you're in the mood for.

    I think I watched this when I was about 8.
    It was a long time ago so maybe I'm mis-remembering. It looks very similar. The homeowner was super happy about getting a large dish and it gets hit by lightening with weird ET/Paranormal properties.
    The main thing I can remember is the dish, it was big and motorised.
