Conan was able to get a good connections because of his Harvard degree (his line of work, writer for shows, tend to favor people graduated for elite colleges). He's not entirely unknown in Korea, though far from being famous. Wayyyyyy too much illiteracy is being displayed in these comments for me to handle. Ken Jeong is funny! Regardless of where he is from and if they like him there. I'm African, does wearing western clothes, speaking English and living a western life make me a sell out? No. The life you choose to live is irrespective of where u come from. Unless you are paying his bills and u are his source of livelihood I strongly suggest u stop criticizing what he does and how he does it.
michael park I'm half black and I actually think you should become an NYPD cop considering you said "I hate you africans." If you don't agree, then I suggest you should really re-read what you send to people because not only did you make a lot of errors in your comment grammar wise, you made your self look like an idiot trying to correct someone who uses text slang. If it's just you being a "troll" judging by your picture, you should work on that because you're the worst troll ever.
Idiot! I am currently getting one, I take etymology as my liberal.... Trust me! Irrespective is a word. It's been around since the 1800s. You just displayed the quality of your education. It's obviously equivalent to staying at home and learning English off google search. Stay benighted.
boowallie You're thinking of irregardless. That is not a word. Irrespective is a word. The reason irregardless is not a word is because it's a combination of two negatives, irr- and regardless. Maybe you should take your own advice.
I mean it's expected. Ken participated in films that negatively portrays Asian men with perpetuating stereotypes. Many Asian actors and actresses try to fight off these stereotypes that the media/films try to shove it down on our throat. His choice, his loss.
Youre not wrong but he does also break into hollywood, the first asian american of his kind. I still respect him as and actor, and I still love him as an asian american.
I think the main reason he isn't popular in Korea is that he doesn't speak Korean. Many people really don't like Korean-Americans that don't learn Korean. Maybe it's a unfair, but that's how it is. I'm white and living in Korea, and I'm doing my best to learn the language, but I still get some stink eye when I don't speak Korean well.
He isn't popular in Korea partly cuz he doesn't speak Korean and makes living from degrading/mocking his own race=our race(I'm Korean as well), but mostly because he ISN'T AS CUTE AS BRADLEY COOPER. lol honest answer right there.. and fyi, you get stink eye in Korea when you don't speak Korean well probably because its inconvenient and that frustrates them, not because of you. They(we)know that Korean is not an international language so we don't have that "LEARN ENGLISH!!!!" kind of attitude that SOME Americans seem to have. I hope your experience in Korea has been good for you and wish for more in the future. :)
The reason simply is that not just some Koreans but, I'm willing to bet, the majority of Koreans don't even know who he is. The Hangover movies are far from popular in Korea. And a show like Community wouldn't appeal to Koreans' tastes either. As far as degrading/mocking his own race as playdearbird points out, check out the 'Gag Concert' or 'SNL Korea' shows and compare some of their characters with characters that Ken Jeong plays or his references to Korea. Many Koreans especially love Gag Concert, young and old. Anyway, Koreans simply don't have exposure to his work.
***** It's not a matter of "not being allowed", any comedian that bases there comedy on their own racial stereotypes usually burns out quickly and is seen as "hacky" by most respected comedians and also seen as insulting by many of their own race. With white and black comedians, it's not as obvious because they don't really do fake accents as much as asian or hispanic comedians. Carlos Mencia and Dat Pham are the two names that really come to mind as primary examples of this.
playdearbird Thank you. Mostly people are very kind towards me here, and I think it is more of a convenience thing, but there is a small percentage of the population (much smaller than the US) that feel like foreigners should speak Korean if they want to live in Korea. I was told in broken English by a lady at Lotte Mart "You live in Korea, you should speak Korean".
DeeDubb1983 Koreans have a very strong sense of Nationalism, so its easy to see why he isn't popular there, given he can't speak Korean. I went to Korea once and they are a very friendly people, unlike some stereotypes you hear. Loved the experience.
The great Late Greg Giraldo was a Harvard Lawyer and Ken a Doctor. Love it. Greg’s comedy was so Real and intelligent. RiP Bro. And Ken brought something new and original to the movies.
I highly doubt people in Korea actually said "no one likes you, I don't like you" to him -.- he probably made that up for the show, to be funny. And yes, he's not popular in Korea. Why? Well simple, the movie wasn't popular.
I’d never heard of him before watching his show... but I am pretty much proud of him that his an actor who is actually an MD. lol very interesting background to become a show host, isn’t it???
You people are very uneducated. There are Ethnicity and Nationality. What is a white person born in Japan? Japanese. What is a Korean person born in Africa? African. That is Nationality. Ethnicity is the type of Black, White, Asian, etc... Why is it the only thing people understand is when someone says Korean American. American Korean or African Japanese is the same thing. Maybe cause you're used to Hearing it one way, there can be no other correct way. This is why i hate people. *equally*
To be honest I don’t care his nationality or where he came from. All I know is that he is a devoted husband. He loves his wife and he took care of her when she had cancer and he made her laugh by his comedy so that his wife got better. So stop criticizing him.
White Americans including Conan seem to mistake/be ignorant of that Korean Americans are from the same country as they are…… Fact is South Korean nationals like BTS are from a different country from the US, which is called Republic of Korea (South). I feel bad for Asian Americans who have to put up with the differential treatment that they are not even be able to be recognized as part of the American citizenship when they are just factually not much associated with their parent’s home countries-although they may benefit from being mistaken as South Korean nationals nowadays.
Tell you what. Jade. Sung Kang is not big in Korea, Daniel Dae Kim is not big in korea, John Cho is not big in Korea and Steven Yeun is not big in korea either. Maybe you didn't know that THEY ARE ALL AMERICAN. and Hollywood is good enough for them and none of them call us rubbish just because we don't know well about them. You're just being racist by calling us rubbish which even Ken Jeong wouldn't like.
Chris Rabil i pity you seriously..the world knows that you are the filthiest and nastiest human beings on earth. I'm done replying you.. you disgust me.
I'm south korean and I have to say this. In reality, Nobody in Korea, I mean NOBODY know Ken jeong. I swear. Nobody know him except who watched this video
you know what jade, perhaps he is not popular in Asia because people are fed up with how asians are portrayed using extreme over the top stereotypes in hollywood? i am asian and i don't think his character in hangover is offensive, but i don't think you can expect many Asians to find it funny.. those jokes in the film are obviously tailored for americans
I'm Korean and I never heard of this guy for my entire life until today when I accidentally bump into this video after watching some Conan's clips... and he totally made that story up, no korean or any other decent person would ever say something like "no one likes you" to his face when meeting for the first time...
In America, when comedians come on to talk shows, half of their stories are highly exaggerated versions of the truth or made up entirely. The audience knows this. Don't need to take it so seriously.
Ken has no antipathy towards his asian roots, he was just being funny as a mere harmless joke. Don't take these comedies so seriously, because there are lots of vids like these who are throwing out harmless jokes, as a korean myself who has watched ken being interviewed by koreans and the way he treats people he is not a racist in general. In fact, there are people who are korean, or has korean roots in them, not taking this interview and his imitation that seriously. (like me and some of these comments below) However I do admit that his roles are always so stereo typed (i wish there are characters like minho from maze runners and others with more characters inside them) and i wish he can play some other roles later on.
I'm a Korean. I watched this youtube video and I searched his name on IMBD In his all movies, "Kung Fu Panda" is the only one I saw. Why he is not popluar in Korea? There is two reason. First, Korean rarely watch Comedy films. We have planty comedy shows on TV, though. Second, Korea is one of a few countries people watch their native movies more then hollywood's. So American comedy movies Korean rarly watches . However, I remember some Korean-relatived actors or actresses. Daniel Dae Kim from Lost Tim Kang from The Mentalist John Cho from Star Trek Grace Park from Battlestar Galactica Sandra Oh from Grey's Anatomy James Kyson from Heroes FIY, Yunjin Kim is the top class actress in Korea before Lost.
@@BlackForlornRose They are drastically different. They use quite different sets of sounds, and that affect how they pronounce English. There's a video about this issue; especially on the sound of r/l in East Asian countries. th-cam.com/video/2yzMUs3badc/w-d-xo.html Also, rhythm is different. Korean is syllable-timed, while Japanese is mora-timed. Spanish is another example of syllable-timed language; that's why sometimes (quite rarely actually) with very poor recordings, Spanish could be confused with Korean and vice versa. But, they are both very different to English, which is stress-timed, so for those who only know English or other stress-timed languages might think Korean and Japanese both speak English in "not a stress-timed way", but in reality, their difference is greater. And frankly I never suspected Ken Jeong being of ethnic Korean before I saw this video. For Koreans, his impressions sounds much closer to Japanese, not to mention that "Ken" sounds very Japanese.
I first saw Ken in the well-known show Community like 7 or 8 years ago. Since then, I have loved his talent as a comedy actor. Many Koreans like him obviously.

I'm half black and I actually think you should become an NYPD cop considering you said "I hate you africans." If you don't agree, then I suggest you should really re-read what you send to people because not only did you make a lot of errors in your comment grammar wise, you made your self look like an idiot trying to correct someone who uses text slang.
If it's just you being a "troll" judging by your picture, you should work on that because you're the worst troll ever.
Irrespective is not a word... morons like you are keeping that word alive, Damn.. get an education.
Well, people here in Korea don't hate him that much... in fact, many koreans don't know him at all.
Most of them don't even know the Hangover Movies
Lived in Seoul for 2 years recently and never saw or heard him mentioned anywhere.
@@ddk70 he's not unpopular here. He's literally unknown. No one ever knows even his existence lol
Do ppl even know he is also a doctor and a Spanish genius, his nickname in Spanish is El Tigre Chino
I mean it's expected.
Ken participated in films that negatively portrays Asian men with perpetuating stereotypes.
Many Asian actors and actresses try to fight off these stereotypes that the media/films try to shove it down on our throat.
His choice, his loss.
I wish you were a top comment, pinned would be best.
Ok
Wouldn't exactly call it a lost. He may not be popular in Korea but he still got his money and is richer than you'll ever be.
Youre not wrong but he does also break into hollywood, the first asian american of his kind. I still respect him as and actor, and I still love him as an asian american.
@@Ethan-mp7wr wym first Asian American of his kind
As a Korean I just wanna mention that the funny part is that his "Korean" accent is more like a full on Chinese accent😂
really?
agree
Because he played the stereotypical Asian roles back in the day, which back then, every Asian American was just considered to be Chinese 🙄
I dont think so. PS: I live in China.
He is really funny and a smart guy. Can’t help myself to watch hangover2 once again.
저사람이 먹고 살려고 하는게 동양인 흉내내고 편견 만들어서 동양인 아닌 인종들이나 웃기는건데 한국에서 유명할 이유가 없지 ㅋㅋ

@Ross Pate hell nah
The great Late Greg Giraldo was a Harvard Lawyer and Ken a Doctor. Love it. Greg’s comedy was so Real and intelligent. RiP Bro. And Ken brought something new and original to the movies.
I'm Korean and I love him he's funny and hilarious! Korea needs to show some respect
@Jake White In my Korean eyes, he is just a pathetic little midget nothing more. If I see him Seoul I'm gonna kick his ass
Ken Jeong is hilarious. Not being famous or recognized everywhere is a blessing.
This man is a brilliant shining gem in Community. This man... is my hero.
I highly doubt people in Korea actually said "no one likes you, I don't like you" to him -.- he probably made that up for the show, to be funny. And yes, he's not popular in Korea. Why? Well simple, the movie wasn't popular.
Koreans are very blunt and say it how it is, so I don't doubt his story.
They actually treated him very well in Korea.
I’d never heard of him before watching his show... but I am pretty much proud of him that his an actor who is actually an MD. lol very interesting background to become a show host, isn’t it???
the way he speak look like he doesnt come from asian...
And where exactly is Asian? I'm not familiar with that place....
asian or asia is the continent. refer to all country in asia. I'm just discover that ken jeong is an american not korean. my bad
the way dave chapelle speaks, he doesnt come from african either
You people are very uneducated. There are Ethnicity and Nationality. What is a white person born in Japan? Japanese. What is a Korean person born in Africa? African. That is Nationality. Ethnicity is the type of Black, White, Asian, etc... Why is it the only thing people understand is when someone says Korean American. American Korean or African Japanese is the same thing. Maybe cause you're used to Hearing it one way, there can be no other correct way. This is why i hate people. *equally*
puub d No only the one guy is, the rest of us are just dicking around.
Ken Jeong and Margaret Cho should get together and have the funniest Korean baby on the planet.
He is an awesome actor... Loved HangOver
I saw The hangover Part 3 today. I thought he was Chinese (like they said he was in the movie). I loved the scene where he fled from the hotel
Dude I thought he was Chinese too...
Then I guess I'm of the hook ;-)
0:15-0:20 Conan is not amused
Yeesh he was having a bad day
I'm vietnamese but i really enjoy this man's humor.
BEST KOREAN ACCENT EVER!
He is hilarious
I am a Korean and I really love him.
I LOVE THIS GUY HOW IS HE NOT POPULAR IN KOREA
0:57 Ken actually had runny eyes while saying no one in Korea likes him. Broke my heart :'(
Tell you what.
Love this guy😍😍😍
everyone thinks he's chinese I first thought he was chinese..
Chris Rabil i pity you seriously..the world knows that you are the filthiest and nastiest human beings on earth. I'm done replying you.. you disgust me.
Chris Rabil Ha As a Chinese, I totally agree with you
That's what I thought as well! So much for stereotyping eh? =/
me too!
Why would he be a national hero in Korea? He's born in the US and is 100% American
Honestly I don't think many Korean people knew who Ken Jeong was until he was on that Masked Singer show
"Years ago, I was Korean. " Said Ken.
The way he copies the Korean accent simply puts me off personally.
exactly, and the worst part is it's not even a korean accent speaking english.
Ah yes my first Conan video I ever saw
I'm south korean and I have to say this. In reality, Nobody in Korea, I mean NOBODY know Ken jeong. I swear. Nobody know him except who watched this video
theyre missing out on this treasure
@@rnrthelad29 fr
He's a doctor right?
used to be
+nms kwo I read that in an accent
I respect the hell out of this guy. Hes a comedian and a straight up doctor
you know what jade, perhaps he is not popular in Asia because people are fed up with how asians are portrayed using extreme over the top stereotypes in hollywood? i am asian and i don't think his character in hangover is offensive, but i don't think you can expect many Asians to find it funny.. those jokes in the film are obviously tailored for americans
I'm Korean and I never heard of this guy for my entire life until today when I accidentally bump into this video after watching some Conan's clips...
and he totally made that story up, no korean or any other decent person would ever say something like "no one likes you" to his face when meeting for the first time...
Actually they would due to his portrayal of Asians. I mean I love him but these other tight was no life Asians don't.
In America, when comedians come on to talk shows, half of their stories are highly exaggerated versions of the truth or made up entirely. The audience knows this. Don't need to take it so seriously.
Nathan Hanson Exaggerated or not, Showing stereotype should be avoided.
he's exaggerating for comedic effect. i don't think most of the people watching believed that this literally happened they just think its funny.
I like Ken!!☺️
From Korea🇰🇷
Ken has no antipathy towards his asian roots, he was just being funny as a mere harmless joke.
Don't take these comedies so seriously, because there are lots of vids like these who are throwing out harmless jokes, as a korean myself who has watched ken being interviewed by koreans and the way he treats people he is not a racist in general. In fact, there are people who are korean, or has korean roots in them, not taking this interview and his imitation that seriously. (like me and some of these comments below)
However I do admit that his roles are always so stereo typed (i wish there are characters like minho from maze runners and others with more characters inside them) and i wish he can play some other roles later on.
you are just a banana
I agree. The commenters don't know how to handle a joke. But also, I agree that his roles are too stereotypical.
I'm a Korean.
I watched this youtube video and I searched his name on IMBD
In his all movies, "Kung Fu Panda" is the only one I saw.
Daniel Dae Kim from Lost
Tim Kang from The Mentalist
John Cho from Star Trek
Grace Park from Battlestar Galactica
Sandra Oh from Grey's Anatomy
James Kyson from Heroes
FIY, Yunjin Kim is the top class actress in Korea before Lost.
These two seem like really good friends
Ken Jeong from 8 years ago made me laugh harder than I have in YEARS
He’s korean but very obviously doing a Japanese accent....
Korean and Japanese have a similar accent when they speak English
AnotherSixthGun no it is very different. All 3 main countries of east Asia have different english accents than each other.
The Japanese can't pronounce the consonants. They read MacDonald as Ma-g-do-na-r-d. And they can't pronounce F, so they change it to H.
@@BlackForlornRose They are drastically different. They use quite different sets of sounds, and that affect how they pronounce English. There's a video about this issue; especially on the sound of r/l in East Asian countries. th-cam.com/video/2yzMUs3badc/w-d-xo.html
Also, rhythm is different.
@@cjpeep That is very true.
I first saw Ken in the well-known show Community like 7 or 8 years ago. Since then, I have loved his talent as a comedy actor. Many Koreans like him obviously.
He's a funny guy. I like him.
Conan has such an evil villain laugh i love it!
I have to watch this video once a year or I am gonna die.
He is doing a Chinese English accent lol. not a Korean English accent. :_))
