In Illinois a Town is incorporated and has the powers of both a City (or Village) and Township. A Township is a division of a county and most cities (but not Towns) are part of the Township. A Village is a municipality that has an at-large council, a City has alder partitions from which the alderperson is elected from. Towns can be set up like either a City or a Village in that respect. Technically Chicago, Springfield and Peoria are Towns as they have abolished Township governments and absorbed those powers into the city. Then there are Civil Townships all over the Midwest (where the Northwest Territory was) that were basically 6 mile by 6 mile squares dividing a county. Most of these became Townships of the same name or were abolished when larger cities (read Chicago, Milwaukee, etc.) absorbed the duties.
A small correction.... Pennsylvania is divided into counties which are divided into cities, boroughs and townships. Within townships are unincorporated groupings of houses called villages. Villages have no government but rather fall within the Township government. Boroughs ARE incorporated and usually have a mayor and council form of government. Finally you have cities. Cities are divided into 4 classes: first, second, second class A, and third class. Philadelphia County and the city of Philadelphia are consolidated governments. There is one TOWN in Pennsylvania. It operates like a borough but because of complex reasons, they are incorporated into the Town of Bloomsburg.
These videos are quite good, I hope you make more. Generally videos on stuff like this don't teach me much, and I feel like correcting **them** - but yours are very in-depth and interesting, and I actually end up learning quite a bit.
what software do you use to make maps? i assume the boundaries are based on census shapefiles, but how do you make them into map images to put on a video?

A far more complex topic then I was expecting; it'll be a joy to unravel this mystery.
It's all about population.
0+ = settlement
100+ = village
1000+ = small town
10,000+ = town
500,000+ = large town
1,000,000+ = city

I was wondering what the difference is and typed in; towns, villages, and cities what's the difference? This really helped. Thanks.
I hope you create more videos! They are extremely informative, but I no way wish to impede your schedule.

Nice work brother
Why’d you stop posting more videos
