Not only about war but the entire period explained were it comes economical, administrative wise, introduction of new policies, the way people lived at those times and ofcourse the politics on a broader scale and on and on ... absolutely amazing how high the level you guys produce.
What Napoleon achieved was quite amazing. Have always admired him, his military genius, and the many things he did for France. Seems interesting that just like today the British seemed to instigate so many issues trying to control countries and stir up trouble. Some things never change.
Some Man he was. Whole era was named after that man. Amazing human.
If Napoleon had just contented himself with reconquering the old Frankish (Carolingian) Empire, he would have been remembered as a successful ruler, but he just had to invade Spain and Russia which were his 2 fatal mistakes.
It wasn't that simple. April 1812 Russia gave an ultimatum to France, demanding that the French withdraw from Prussia and fortified sites. Should Napoleon just given Prussia back? He was in essence backed into a corner. Though he declared war on Russia, it was hardly 'unprovoked'. Sadly it did lead to his downfall. Definitely agree about Spain, though I had seen elsewhere that it was poorly recommended to him to do that, which foolishly he did.
Invading Spain was nowhere near as stupid as trying to march a minion men through Russia in the winter
@@miketime4290 Yes indeed. That was his fatal mistake. Spain though was the start of the spiral downward sadly. He accomplished so much and made so many positive reforms, which people rarely talk about as focus tends to be on his military strategy and battles.
Agreed, the timing and overall planning of the Russian invasion was his worst mistake. Spain was the second worst. Tieing down a huge part of his army in Spain for 7 years was a major blunder in itself. On average Napoleon deployed 250,000 Frenchmen there every year and had nothing to show for it. It was totally needless since Spain was allied to France.

I've been enjoying this series so much! What a beast of a military mind. Regardless of one's appraisal of Napoleon, one thing which is universal is the historical and societal impact that he had, even 200 years later.

A small note would be to forgo the inclusion of modern political and social opinion on historical decisions/events, I’m sure it benefits the TH-cam algorithm but it’s unnecessary especially as viewers are here for the facts and an escape from the overly political environment we are subject to every day across every medium and entertainment form.

Just as a note about the comment that the French how didn't allow women to vote after the French Revolution. In reality France was the last country in Europe to allow women to vote, not happening until 1944. So that's not really on Napoleon, it's on French views of a woman voting.
We didn't blame Napoleon with respect, we simply stated the franchise was limited.

It does not. Empowered people could reveal their true selves (meaning they were always like that, misareble, having to snarl instead of giving orders to execute) but it has nothing to do with power itself. And on other hand it actually kinda makes them more noble (as far as they can get)

Napoleon was never going to be a Cincinatus, and Europe still hadn't a consistent vision of how to make a Republic work without all the old animosities and privileges creeping in. I doubt had Napoleon demurred to the still nascent government, the French people probably would have begged Napoleon back into service as the USA had done with Washington. I believe it would take decades before they cold run an effective republic.

Napoleon wanted to merged the old regime and the ideas of the revolution. He also didn't want war to continue in Europe. Becoming emperor was a diplomatic tool for him to achieve both. I don't know about arrogance but his nepotism was definitely his downfall. Maybe things would have gone for the better if Lannes survived. He was the only one with the will to truly oppose Napoleon.

Rounding out a nice 'triumvirate' of my favourite series on Napoleon (and the literal era named after him). This series, Epic History's 'Napoleon's Marshals' and Realtime History's 'Downfall of Napoleon 1812/13' have have, in my humble opinion, set the benchmark.
