    I love that the little pits from casting, blacked in end up looking like it's battle worn and adds to the authenticity of it all. What 3d printing and cnc machines have added to casting, etc is mind blowing. You said in a previous comment that you think this project it too niche to get a lot of likes, I say don't trust someone who hasn't see terminator! Beautiful work.

    • @AndysMachines
      @AndysMachines  3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Thanks! Yes, you're right. I could polish it further and make it all shiny and perfect, but I'm deliberately leaving in some of the marks and even accentuating them to give it a slightly worn/weathered appearance, which I think is a lot more fitting.

    So glad to see real machine work on T800 ! I’m sure you will get great reviews as I did in 2002 for my fiberglass bondo unit I made for my computer repair store ! I made my skull by freezing and print screen of the move as the terminator was chasing Sarah and Kile through the factory. If I had a 3D printer I could have made a ton of money selling them for man caves! So many people offered me money for the unit in my store, it was ridiculous! I did a wax model and aluminum casting but ran in to the same as you did but worse! Not knowing what I was doing! Good luck and great job!

Not as much time as you might think, as I would have to finish and polish the metal parts anyway, I only cleaned up the worst of the 3D prints, plus I prefer to work with metal than plastic and I actually left some of the rough print texture in some places to give a weathered appearance which I think looks more authentic.

    You're getting better and better with these builds dude! Might I suggest putting some sprues on the parts to let the metal flow to the places it's not reaching, and to make a vacuum table so you can vacuum cast, that'll stop most of the issues I see :)

    • @AndysMachines
      @AndysMachines  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      That actually is a vacuum table at 3:00 though I didn't go into detail on that in this video, it worked really well for the small parts. But yes, you're right about sprues, some of the larger parts I couldn't cast on the table (jaw, back of skull) failed because I made the sprues too short and there wasn't enough pressure to fill the mould.

    Hello again
    Ive never heard of- lost PLA casting, it seems to work though, I am familiar with the traditional lost wax method, that's used for casting bronze, using a special black sand, it must take a very high temperature to melt (the plastic I mean)

    • @AndysMachines
      @AndysMachines  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The plastic melts, leaks out and burns away at around 400°C, but the plaster needs over 700°C so by that stage all traces of the plastic are gone.

    • @AndysMachines
      @AndysMachines  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I believe the original movie props were sculpted in clay then moulds made, they were cast in resin and then painted. They used various small objects for some of the details, like a gearbox from a RC car and other small plastic modelling parts. They had different puppets for various shots, including a 60cm tall one for stop-motion filming. I don't think there were any computers involved, no cnc or cgi was used, probably preliminary sketches all done on paper too. You can still find some information on the stanwinstonschools website, though I think there was more there in the past.

    Terminator's eyes would look more like the movie if they could light up red using leds. That's what made it scarier looking. Same principle as HAL 2000 with his red glaring lens. You are quite a skilled craftsman I must say. It looks absolutely gorgeous and well detailed. Now you just need to add the red eyes to make it scary...lol.

      Yes, I did do the red eyes on my previous skull, th-cam.com/video/RG9HpijORLw/w-d-xo.html but I'm actually planning a slight improvement for this one (more on that later).

    2 dislikes. From someone called 'Sarah Connor' and her son, John, I suspect...

      It's the first 2 Sarah Connors, which honestly is okay if you ask me. They kinda got the raw end of the deal there.

      Google tried to shadow ban the video, but then realized covering up their future plans might be a bit too obvious.

      Apparently, there will be 29,5 more movies with Sarah and John Connor. And from the future no less. As there are now 66 dislikes...

    Really cool. Did you remember the 6502 for the “brain”?

    • @AndysMachines
      @AndysMachines  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! I think I'll go with something a little more modern, though 6502 was the first type of assembly programming I ever did.

    • @AndysMachines
      @AndysMachines  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks!. There will be LEDs, here are the eyes I made for my previous skull: th-cam.com/video/RG9HpijORLw/w-d-xo.html But I'm working on a better version for this one.
