All 3 my kids were at Teneo this year, before I took them out and placed back in their old school. In light of the current health and safety climate globally and in SA, Homeschooling / online schooling is more safe and viable option for my children, however the institution's structures has to be properly in place and there has to be a solid staff posture in place. High staff turnovers affects the children's learning. Using young inexperienced teachers can also have a negative impact on your business.
I also considered Teneo, but then I attended the webinars where video samples were shown of actual classes. The first teacher's child were screaming in the background, the second class we couldn't hear what the teacher was saying as his sound quality was very poor and sometimes non-existent, the third class teacher sat in front of her open closet, which was very distracting. The fourth teacher (maths) tried (very badly) to "write" his notes on the screen with his mouse.
Hi Lubelihle, We currently only offer a CAPS-aligned, South African curriculum. You can find out more about CAPS over here: www.education.gov.za/Curriculum/CurriculumAssessmentPolicyStatements(CAPS)/tabid/420/Default.aspx
Regarding exams, the exam for grade 9 will at this stage, until the GEC (General Education Certificate) is available, be facilitated by us and will be conducted online under proctored conditions. The final exams for grade 12 are set by the South African Comprehensive Assessment Institute (SACAI), and need to be written at a physical examination venue in South Africa. UCT Online High School will organise these venues for our learners. All other exams will be conducted online under proctored conditions. For external exams in the FET phase, these examinations have to be written at a physical venue which is allocated by SACAI or by us. Venue locations will be determined based upon the regional distribution of learners who need to write the exams and every effort, within reason, will be made to ensure that the venue allocated is as close as possible to your residence. It is unfortunately not feasible for us to secure a venue within a particular location based on the residential location of a handful of learners, and so some longer travel may be required. All learners who reside outside of the borders of South Africa will be required to travel to South Africa to write their external exams. This is as mandated by legislation. If you'd like to chat to our admissions team directly, you can email admissions@uctohs.valentureonline.com or call +27 21140 1792. All the best, The UCT Online High School Team
Hi Amesh, thanks for your comment. We are aware that this offering is not financially accessible for everyone, which is why we're offering a free curriculum which provides learners with free access to our learning platform. You can find out more about Open UCT here: www.uctonlinehighschool.com/free-curriculum We're also busy working with government, sponsors, philanthropists and all-round good human beings to help subsidise fees. Keep an eye on our socials where we will update you as soon as scholarships become available.
If this system is based on the CAPS curriculum it won't be worth it. We need a modern curriculum that is internationally recognised and offers our children a fighting chance to have a good life. Our children need to learn about financial and emotional intelligence as these are future proof skills. The industrial age is coming to an end so we don't need more workers, bit more innovators and leaders of thinking.
The animators for this video deserve a raise 🙏🏻🔥🔥🔥
I am excited 🎉🎉🎉
It's just I'll miss my friends ❤️

Good day, how will the tests/exams be written if you don’t live around Cape Town?
