Very interesting and informative. When I lived in Oakland years ago, they had just shut it down so never got to see it. Amazing and I'm sure a ton of interesting stories. Thank you, Jordan. I love your cameos👏👏. Much love to you and Jah ❤❤❤🦁
Back in the 70's my parents took me there when I was a child. Although too young then to understand the entire concept and history of the prison, I do still remember it clearly. I recognize so much of this vlog through photos that I still have. Mom and dad are long gone now, but this brought back memories of a beautiful day with them. Thanks for taking me back Jordan.
So interesting, I was going to comment to say almost the exact same thing, so I instead decided to reply to your relatable comment, except I went around the late 90s or early 2000s if I’m correct. I was around 10 years old. I found it incredibly interesting and still to this day find crime and punishment history very interesting. My parents got us a guided tour so it was a bit different but definitely more informative. I still to this day watch videos of abandoned prisons and it all just brings me back to my first experience.
Colm Deasy it’s not that simple. You need various materials and things to close in cracks. Otherwise water could get in the submarine. So that wouldn’t work man. But still a good idea
I wasn't nearly as creeped out at Alcatraz as I was at Missouri State Penitentiary. I could physically feel the negativity there. The only other time I felt something like that was at the concentration camp at Dachau.
Places can certainly hold energy as you say. There is a little tiny town in Arizona called "Jerome". It is made up of just 2 or 3 little streets slashed into a mountainside. It started out as a mining town for gold, copper, etc in the 1800s. ANYWAY ( lol) I drove through there one night at about 2 am and I felt the most evil energy I have ever felt. I had a vision of miners being stuck underground and left there. I searched the archives and could not find any accidents or anything though, It was quite intense. I am still talking about it 30 years later.
@@judddavis3548 I am sure there were accidents. I grew up in Bonne Terre, Missouri over the world's largest man made cavern, a massive flooded lead mine abandoned in the 1960's by the St. Joe Lead Company. The local historical society interviewed a long time employee, who at the time was well into his 90s. I asked him about mining accidents and the story that perhaps the company tried to cover them up (after closure they were seen dumping records into the abandoned mine.) He told us they weren't hiding anything, they simply saw no value to the records (as an archivist by trade, I recoil at that now.) He said every accident that occurred went across his desk and he remembered every one. But "officially" there is no record of any of them. Long story short, I'm guessing that is probably the case here too. Jerome had a pretty famous strike in 1916. I knew the name of the town sounded familiar. There were lots of strikes in 1916 and 1917 (including one in Bonne Terre, though that one had serious anti-immigrant motives) and safety and accidents (and the fact that companies didn't give a crap if you died) was often one of the reasons for strikes.
Just wanted to say thanks for this channel. Being stuck at home waiting for this whole virus situation to end is enough to drive you nuts! Living vicariously through your trips has helped a bunch. Thank You!
I visited in 1981 and there were no block signs but all the cells painted half green were done for the Clint movie ‘Escape from Alcatraz’. Glad to see it is more of a museum now. Thanks Jordan!
My grandfather retired from the federal penitentiary system and he retired in Lompoc California (big fed prison there). When i was growing up his fed pen guard friends were from Alcatraz. I got to hear first person stories about the bird man and other characters back then. I thought my grandfather and his friends were the coolest ever.
I took the Alcatraz tour in 1981. Even as a kid, I was always fascinated by the spirit of historical places. These kinds of trips for me were as fun or better than any amusement park. Good work on vid, and the music intro you use for this ep (and others) I think is the best one. Good energy, positive. Plus Jah rocks!
I loved visiting here when I went to San Francisco. I have always read and watched anything to do with the prison. A lot more is coming out about the great escape. I believe at least 2 made it
They recently made a documentary about the 2 that made it. They ended up living somewhere in Argentina. They showed the Christmas cards that the family received from them telling them that they were ok.
When I visited my aunt 10 years ago in San Fran. I did the Alcatraz tour this was one of my highlights of the trip. In person it looks so real you can imagine being a prisoner and their daily routine.

I always think of the movie, “Birdman of Alcatraz” with Burt Lancaster when I hear Alcatraz mentioned. Thanks as always for all the time and effort you put into each vlog. It shows!
Best tour of Alcatraz I have ever seen!! Learning things I didn't know. It doesn't look like it smells too pleasant. Not a place I would want to stay! Thank you for sharing!
I have been here it was awesome! he's right as soon as I walked out on that prison yard there was a very heavy feeling. I thought of Shawshank Redemption right away
One of the coolest things that I have done was visiting Alcatraz. I loved it so much that I did it twice in my life. The ferry ride was amazing! Well worth every penny!
Thank you sir you are a terrific host with a very nice speaking voice as well as very informative. That was a wonderful tour of that majestic prison, if only those walls could talk. Thank you again............

A huge portion of Alcatraz was destroyed during the last escape attempt, also the native Americans destroyed and desecrated many things on Alcatraz when they occupied the Island in the late 70s. Now because of asbestos and deterioration most of the island is off limits to the general public.
Hi Jordan, well, if that didn't put you off committing a crime I don't know what would!!! It sure does make you appreciate being free!! I'm going to go for a walk in the fresh air now after watching that. Great vlog Jordan.
Thanks for the tour! I was in San Francisco in 2019, and really wanted to see Alcatraz, but it was closed due to the jail being in such poor condition as it was falling apart from so many tours. The only option you had was to pay for small boat that would take you very close to the prison, but no one was allowed on the island. I hope they can renovate it enough to continue doing the tours, but last I heard it was shut down permanently. Edit: Looks like they reopened it!
Jordan…As usual, an amazing vlog! I see that you don't plan to do any more old Hollywood vlogs. I hope that doesn't mean that you're cutting back on vlogging. You provide so much information about the locations that you visit and I'm certain that the research you do takes a lot of time but, I and many others are loyal fans of your work and don't want to see it end! Thank you!
Thank you for this I’m from San Francisco I’ve been to Alcatraz about 5 times my whole life and this was a very good video a lot of details for ppl who can’t go at this time I do believe that the men survived.
Great video, I was lucky go and visit a couple years back and seeing your video brings back the memories and like you mentioned I grabbed a cup and spoon from the shop
Kevin bacon starred in a movie called “Murder in the first” which shows how harsh it was at Alcatraz. It’s a good movie. Kevin is really outstanding in the part. Jack Lalane who was a health nut in the 60s Tv use to swim tugging a rowboat of ppl from Alcatraz island to San Francisco once a year in the 70s.
I've always felt that Kevin Bacon was very underated as an actor. He was in a great movie with Meryl Streep called "The River Wild" where he played a VERY chilling character.
The first couple years Alcatraz was open they enforced a strict no talking rule, so it was pretty quiet a lot of the time. Just like in other prisons a smelly inmate is prone to being attacked from other inmates. The prisons cement floors were kept spotless by the cons who were on work detail. Alcatraz did stink of cigarettes though. The plumbing at Alcatraz had salt water toilets, that might have created an odd smell. IDK?
That is a tour l wanted to do but never will. It didn't disappoint.... so much better from your view, than that of documentaries. Thank you again Jordan. 😁👍
Very interesting and informative vlog! You really opened my eyes to Alcatraz's history. I think we've all seen the movies about Alcatraz, but this was excellent. You get the pervasive feeling of loneliness and desperation of the prisoners and even the guards that worked there. No wonder they uprised and attempted to escape. You can feel those feelings in Alcatraz now, but imagine what it was like to live there! Yikes, it certainly earned its nickname "the rock". I'll never get the opportunity to go myself, so I am really glad you went. No one narrates a story like you do Jordan! You just really always find a way to make it seem like we are right in the place your narrating about! That my friend is a true gift! Not every one can make others feel that way. Thank you for another wonderful trip!!! ~ Jill Gross
The worst part had to have been catching glimpses of the city knowing people are living their lives while you're just a forgotten number on a rock. Machine Gun Kelly once thought he'd get cute with a guard he saw eating a sandwich for lunch by saying how he once had the cars, women, and steak dinners in his time and never a plain sandwich. The guard simply replied "I've got a date tonight with a nice redhead and I know one thing-*I won't be here but you will.* Kelly never said anything after that.
It think everyone that visits SF need to go see Alcatraz. I’ve been twice and can not believe the improvements that have been made between 2007 and 2018. Amazing place. But I’m always drawn to the things They won’t let us see. Like the basement and the tunnels. Maybe one day. Lol! I’m excited to see the apartments one day too. The gardens are awesome too. I also highly recommend angel island. It’s an unexpected jewel.
I love how educated you were about this prison before going. It made this the best video I’ve seen about Alcatraz. Ironically I live in the Bay Area and I’ve never gone. I plan to soon tho! Good video.
What an excellent tour you gave, I watched your video and I’ve visited Alcatraz prison before lol...anyone not fortunate enough to get to go there can experience it perfectly through your video. Great job! 😉
That was a really good tour. Great camera work, you let the camera linger at places and down the corridor so we could get a sense of the place. You covered most of the areas. I would've liked to see inside the morgue though. I'll probably never get there (well I heard it's closed even for tours now) so your video gave a good experience. Oh and it's the first time I've ever seen one of your videos.
ON the tour i took we were locked in the solitary confiment cells for a few minutes. There are no words to describe how cold and dark it was in the cell.
Sweet vlog! I've always been intrigued by Alcatraz. I actually grew up in Richmond, CA, and was stationed on a ship in Concord, CA. I had passed by this island many times, but never got around to actually visiting it. Thanks so much for this vlog Jordan. I'll catch you on the next one. Arthur Childs, Oak Harbor, WA. 🙂
I’m from California and have been going to Alcatraz every once in awhile e would go there. My first memory was when I was about 10 and they had guided tours. Now I am from Louisiana. Love it here! I really miss being able to go to San Francisco. I also took care of a Alzheimer’s lady whose husband was a guard on the boat when it was a military prison.
I saw the movie Escape From Alcatraz a couple of times and thought it was pretty good. I know John Anglin and his brother Clarence along with Frank Morris were in cell block B. I really believe that they made it. They say it was the greatest prison break in history. This was fascinating Jordan and as usual Thank you... Love to you and Jah...
I've been wanting to on the tour for a long time but have never gotten the chance. thank you so much for this, so much better than any other tour I've seen. I can't wait for the next vlog.
Watching this vlog brought back memories of visiting Alcatraz two summers ago. Such a fascinating and very interesting place and so glad to mark it off of my bucket list!
This was a great tour that you’ve given I have watched others none came close to yours and your soft voice whispering was perfect and you were by yourself when you were showing specific things which made it more Interesting.
Hi Jordan i love your tours i am writing myself a list of travel must do's and as i have rarely travelled the USA i have a few spots there i want to see. Thanks !
I went through San Fran on my way to Disneyland with my friend and his parents. We had a limited time there and we missed the sailing to Alcatraz. Thanks for the tour.
Very interesting vlog. I took the tour here many years ago and I got this heavy feeling the more I went through the place. I can't imagine living here with no way off. Thank you very much for your wonderful tour. Safe Travels and Take Care.
This was so cool. I find the history of this place so intriguing. Didn’t realise how true the actual escape scenario was to the film Escape From Alcatraz and it turns out the film was pretty accurate. Great vlog Jordan 👍🏻
So was the movie The Rock with Kevin Costner and Sean Connery. The Birdman Man was Robert Stroud. When Am Capone was at the Rock, it was said he would yell/scream all the time. He had syphilis and it was destroying his brain. The theory behind it the guards thought because his mind was just about gone, that he was seeing someone he set up to be murdered.
An interesting place to see, but... I wouldn't want to live there, as they say..
Daze with Jordan the Lion
If you are still in the Bay Area, I’d love to meet you.
I was there years ago and that place is amazing. 😀

The escape, and the fake dummy heads was pretty clever back then.
@Deja i think they got away. If they didn't, the bodies would have been found.

Jordan provides another great history lesson. It is a reminder that bad behavior can result in some pretty awful circumstances.

You just really always find a way to make it seem like we are right in the place your narrating about! That my friend is a true gift! Not every one can make others feel that way. Thank you for another wonderful trip!!! ~ Jill Gross
5 star deserves an Emmy
The worst part had to have been catching glimpses of the city knowing people are living their lives while you're just a forgotten number on a rock. Machine Gun Kelly once thought he'd get cute with a guard he saw eating a sandwich for lunch by saying how he once had the cars, women, and steak dinners in his time and never a plain sandwich. The guard simply replied "I've got a date tonight with a nice redhead and I know one thing-*I won't be here but you will.* Kelly never said anything after that.
Savage!
I loved this video Jordan! Greatly explained😃
I’ve always wanted to go there. Thank you for sharing this
Thanks for sharing this. This is the best tour of Alcatraz I’ve seen thus far.
Very cool I drove truck out there for 30 years and never stopped to do tour..thanks great job
ON the tour i took we were locked in the solitary confiment cells for a few minutes. There are no words to describe how cold and dark it was in the cell.
Cool tour! Thanks.
In the 90's we went to San Francisco, and one of my husband's Bucket List, was to see Alcatraz. We did, made an impression on us both!! TY again.
That was a brilliant watch I had never seen inside in such detail before what an inhuman place, thank you for making the video.
I visited Alcatraz a few years ago. So much to see.I enjoyed the gardens around the outside and the views of the bay. Inside had a spooky vibe for me.
Thanks for a great tour. I really enjoyed this and you added so much detail so we could imagine how it really was there.
The Clint Eastwood movie "Escape from Alcatraz" is a really good movie. And it was filmed on Alcatraz
"Alcatraz - The Whole Shocking Story" was filmed on Alcatraz as well. That's a good movie too.
I visited Alcatraz years ago, Very interesting place sat on the big stone steps in the recreation yard.
This is amazing! I watch on my laptop and your camera is sooo quality , I feel like I'm there!
