The biggest reason are the 3 big, completly different cities with different vibes and radio stations - like 3 games in one!! I always hoped so much they would add a major mapexpansion with San Fierro and Las Venturas to GTA V Online, maybe as the first paid DLC. I would believe more in that than in an early GTA 6 release :)
GTA San Andreas all the way!. The atmosphere of the 90’s , the incredible soundtrack, the gangs and much more , and i just loved exploring the woods ( especially at night , it had kind of mysterious and creepy feeling) and then the desert , simply a masterpiece!. GTA V felt at times boring, i didn’t care about the characters at all, and los Santos was simply boring, San Andreas is pure class compared to V.
San Andreas has: More stuff to do after all the storyline missions. More interiors to enter. Less aggressive cop AI on lower stars (the cops in GTA V were way too aggressive even on just one star) Better and more memorable missions Better and less stiff controls Yeah, I can agree that San Andreas is a better game than GTA V.
The only thing I liked more about GTA V was its better variety of peds, weapons, and cars. Plus the inclusion of animals. Other than that, the game really doesn't provide more in terms of gameplay. I still prefer the 3D era games. Hell, I'm 22 and still play GTA III, VC, SA, and LCS almost everyday.
Though i agree with you i would also like to point out, SA was pushing the limits of the time, had you taken the map, characters and story from SA and given it to Todays rockstar, it would not only be the best gta but the best videogame period

i play Gta 4 and i imagine Liberty city as the African Savannah and Niko Bellic is the African lion. I hit npcs just like how lions kill other animals. Cops are elephants who can arrest or kill Niko just like how elephants defeat lions. But at last Niko is the king of Liberty City just like how lion is the king of African Savannah

True, the story line was the most shitties thing ive ever seen! They tried to go for the edgy funny stuff but ended up with a game full of white people, the worst part is the 2 protagonists, the rich boring grandpa and the hobo Daryl Dixon wannabe. GTA V is just FLAVORLESS!

Also you could fully do stats on your character like an RPC, you could change your body portion, learn different fighting styles, die of hunger (never seen in a videogame) workout, etc
GTA SA definitely the best of the series, great storyline, awesome characters and the general vibe rules them all imo. GTA V was awesome but the characters and storyline were dry and the single player length was very short compared to SA and this was the last game to truly focus on single player.
Simple really, the open world felt and still feels so alive in this game. There's plenty things and activities to do it's ridiculous even for today's games. Correct me if i'm wrong but SA still is the only open world where you can do so much in it. Other open worlds just increase their map size and quests number. On top of that SA had some of the best story, characters, voice acting and mission design in video game history. Put all that together and you're starting to realize we're talking about a true masterpiece here with the whole meaning of the word!
my first gta was gta 2, my cousin's father's favorite game, it was back in 2003 i was 6 that time, i always used to think gta 2 was so realistic cause it has blood fx and that you could kill people in it unlike any other games 🤣
GTA IV is my favorite GTA the reason why is because out of all the GTA characters I believe Niko is the most down to earth and relatable protagonist I also really loved how Rockstar approached the story with a more serious and dark tone to the game

I still remember the country side missions where I had to go from one part of the map to another to gain access to the missions...The jetpack really saved my day...

I mean it was a long time ago I never exactly beat the game but the missions were really hardand also another thing one of my friends that I know has played the whole game and beat it and they said it was hard
My first was the first GTA. Second was London. Never played GTA2 that much so I don't count it so third was GTAIII. But as the fourth, Vice City was the first GTA I played through and the San Andreas was second I played through so they were my first and second in that way. They're also the last GTAs I've played (and still play).
Gta sa was my first video game I have ever played, and I'm glad. The game is near perfect the story the features they characters the map every thing was great. so for me this game will aways be my favorite gta game if not my favorite video game ever
The hype for this game was so intense to. I was a big GTA vice city fan and when I found out that San Andreas was coming out I was so obsessed with learning everything about it before it came out and I’ve been like that with every GTA since then. San Andreas was the only game that truly exceeded my expectations. The bar was set so high for GTA4 And I was expecting you were going to be able to do so many things except they went the other way and stripped all the features and diversity that made San Andreas so great. It’s a good lesson to not let your hopes get too high as it is easy to get disappointed

I told you, I'm not saying it's bad, I'm saying it doesn't hold up gameplay wise. That's a fact, I'm sorry. At the time it was amazing and good, but Rockstar is very innovative and they brought us so much better. Bully is 3rd my favorite game of all time, but it didn't really didn't age that good. (It's newer, so of course).
If GTA 5 map had those 3 cities and we travelled between them throughout the course of the game it would've been an even larger hit than it turned out to be
Grand Theft Auto IV will always be my favourite GTA and favourite video game all together because of the memories with the multiplayer and that amazing dark, depressing story based around revenge. There is no happy ending for Niko. I think he is the best protagonist without a doubt. I know some people think the driving mechanics are terrible but I think they're a blast also the physics are just the best lmao. idk theres just something I love about playing in that gritty underground criminal world in New York City. Best Story line. Best protagonist. Best map in my opinion. The things that bring the game down is just the extreme lack of customisation.

Kids at school have caused me to hate san Andrea's. They say it's there favorite yet they haven't played it. They think Franklin is the protagonist. I was playing gta 3 at school and all these kids walked up to me and asked that is in los santos right? I gave them the dumbest look. The only gta map people know of is los santos and it pisses me off. A kid asked me if gta sa was the first gta game to include multiple protagonists. They also think that Los Santos is the only place in Gta sa.
GTA: San Andreas got really many things V or others didn't have, as every GTA got some unique in them. But San Andreas, V and IV were the ones that got the most unique features. That's why they are the 3 best ones in the series
Khaled Rehan vice city is a really good game too but it doesn’t have barely any of the features San Andreas does and San Andreas has better driving and a better and longer story
GTA IV is my favorite game in the series, but GTA: SA is a close second. San Andreas is fantastic with the story and characters as well as the various things you can do to make the experience your own, like customizing CJ’s hair and tattoos among other things. I know IV lacked things like that, and it’s clear that early development those things were supposed to be included like hair and beards, but those were dropped, and I don’t think that hinders the experience I have with IV. At least not to me. I love the story and characters in GTA IV a bit more and I love how IV has two different endings, both of which effect Niko in different ways. I also remember beating IV a lot faster than San Andreas, because I got so into the story of IV. That’s what gives it the edge for me.
My favorite in GTA SA is that we could talk to peds just standing and if one of them walk close they will say something to CJ like his body, his clothes etc. We can reply them with a friendly or aggressive comments but sometimes replying them aggressive can make them angry which was funny. And my other favorite was the scene in the final mission "End of the line" after killing Big Smoke. Tenpenny appears and tried to kill CJ leaving him in the apartment by causing a explosion. When we made it we see this cool slow motion scene getting out of the apartment that was now exploding was awesome!
The only way to make big smoke aim better in the mission wrong side of the tracks! Just give smoke his 2 number 9s, a number 9 LAARGE, a number 6 with extra DIP, a number 7, 2 number 45s, 1 with CHEEEESE and a laarge soda. Soon he can shoot some chicken man on the damn train
The 1st GTA game that I played was GTA 3 & I was 12yrs old when it first came out in 2001, then I bought/played GTA:Vice City in (2002) & last but not least GTA:San Andreas in (2004) I was 15yrs old, my older cousin(who was 35 at the time) my brother(who was 22 at the time) & I waited in line for 3 hours for GTA:San Andreas, & once I got this game, I played it & I beat it in 2 months, man I played a lot of catch up on my high school homework & tests, talk about a lot of extra credit & all night studying, but I wasn’t about to let Officer Tenpenny, Ryder or Big Smoke get away with the shenanigans that they had displayed.
GTA 6 needs to take more notes from San Andreas, one city won't do it for us next time around, we need more variety especially in the wilderness and things to do around the world like RDR2 which is so amazing to even just look at. One thing that gives us hope is that not only does GTA 6 have to top GTA V it has to top RDR2 and that gets me ecstatic about the map, the immersion, the weather effects, the story, and the atmosphere of the next installment of GTA. Rockstar never disappoint with the quality level there entertainment properties are on, we just need an announcement this year...

Funny thing is, GTA San Andreas was my first GTA. Ah, if only I could go back in time to play at my sister's place 7 years ago.

My first was the first GTA. Second was London. Never played GTA2 that much so I don't count it so third was GTAIII. But as the fourth, Vice City was the first GTA I played through and the San Andreas was second I played through so they were my first and second in that way. They're also the last GTAs I've played (and still play).

Gta sa was my first video game I have ever played, and I'm glad. The game is near perfect the story the features they characters the map every thing was great. so for me this game will aways be my favorite gta game if not my favorite video game ever
The hype for this game was so intense to. I was a big GTA vice city fan and when I found out that San Andreas was coming out I was so obsessed with learning everything about it before it came out and I’ve been like that with every GTA since then. San Andreas was the only game that truly exceeded my expectations. The bar was set so high for GTA4 And I was expecting you were going to be able to do so many things except they went the other way and stripped all the features and diversity that made San Andreas so great. It’s a good lesson to not let your hopes get too high as it is easy to get disappointed

You forgot multiple mode vigilante missions which is absent from gtaV and that's the verdict. 😊
The game hasn't aged well, but the story will live on forever. I still think Gta IV is the best, but that's me.

@Adrian Scott I mean, restarting the entire mission after dying, the glitches, and the enemys not being balanced in their health. I told you, I'm not saying it's bad, I'm saying it doesn't hold up gameplay wise. That's a fact, I'm sorry. At the time it was amazing and good, but Rockstar is very innovative and they brought us so much better. Bully is 3rd my favorite game of all time, but it didn't really didn't age that good. (It's newer, so of course).

Grand Theft Auto IV will always be my favourite GTA and favourite video game all together because of the memories with the multiplayer and that amazing dark, depressing story based around revenge. There is no happy ending for Niko. I think he is the best protagonist without a doubt. I know some people think the driving mechanics are terrible but I think they're a blast also the physics are just the best lmao. idk theres just something I love about playing in that gritty underground criminal world in New York City. Best Story line. Best protagonist. Best map in my opinion. The things that bring the game down is just the extreme lack of customisation.

Kids at school have caused me to hate san Andrea's. They say it's there favorite yet they haven't played it. They think Franklin is the protagonist. I was playing gta 3 at school and all these kids walked up to me and asked that is in los santos right? I gave them the dumbest look. The only gta map people know of is los santos and it pisses me off. A kid asked me if gta sa was the first gta game to include multiple protagonists. They also think that Los Santos is the only place in Gta sa.
Their childhood was overflown by anime probably.

GTA: San Andreas got really many things V or others didn't have, as every GTA got some unique in them. But San Andreas, V and IV were the ones that got the most unique features. That's why they are the 3 best ones in the series

The Saints Row 2 main menu sound backgrund on a GTA Video, is the icing on the cake.
GTA V, SA, and VC are my absolute favorites in any open world game.
GTA IV is my favorite game in the series, but GTA: SA is a close second. San Andreas is fantastic with the story and characters as well as the various things you can do to make the experience your own, like customizing CJ’s hair and tattoos among other things. I know IV lacked things like that, and it’s clear that early development those things were supposed to be included like hair and beards, but those were dropped, and I don’t think that hinders the experience I have with IV. At least not to me. I love the story and characters in GTA IV a bit more and I love how IV has two different endings, both of which effect Niko in different ways. I also remember beating IV a lot faster than San Andreas, because I got so into the story of IV. That’s what gives it the edge for me.

My favorite in GTA SA is that we could talk to peds just standing and if one of them walk close they will say something to CJ like his body, his clothes etc. We can reply them with a friendly or aggressive comments but sometimes replying them aggressive can make them angry which was funny. And my other favorite was the scene in the final mission "End of the line" after killing Big Smoke. Tenpenny appears and tried to kill CJ leaving him in the apartment by causing a explosion. When we made it we see this cool slow motion scene getting out of the apartment that was now exploding was awesome!
The only way to make big smoke aim better in the mission wrong side of the tracks! Just give smoke his 2 number 9s, a number 9 LAARGE, a number 6 with extra DIP, a number 7, 2 number 45s, 1 with CHEEEESE and a laarge soda. Soon he can shoot some chicken man on the damn train

The 1st GTA game that I played was GTA 3 & I was 12yrs old when it first came out in 2001, then I bought/played GTA:Vice City in (2002) & last but not least GTA:San Andreas in (2004) I was 15yrs old, my older cousin(who was 35 at the time) my brother(who was 22 at the time) & I waited in line for 3 hours for GTA:San Andreas, & once I got this game, I played it & I beat it in 2 months, man I played a lot of catch up on my high school homework & tests, talk about a lot of extra credit & all night studying, but I wasn’t about to let Officer Tenpenny, Ryder or Big Smoke get away with the shenanigans that they had displayed.

GTA 6 needs to take more notes from San Andreas, one city won't do it for us next time around, we need more variety especially in the wilderness and things to do around the world like RDR2 which is so amazing to even just look at. One thing that gives us hope is that not only does GTA 6 have to top GTA V it has to top RDR2 and that gets me ecstatic about the map, the immersion, the weather effects, the story, and the atmosphere of the next installment of GTA. Rockstar never disappoint with the quality level there entertainment properties are on, we just need an announcement this year...
