Again another great very well done "What a character" i was worried when you first started airing these that they would be to short but a good time of 5-6+ is perfect for the show, I am very much enjoying this series and looking forward to more in the future :)
Wow never really did stop to think about the story of the Goombas. Other than the ones from Paper Mario but even then never really stopped to look back and appreciate the long ever going march the little guys have done since their debut. As of now, this video is the most elaborate and well done piece of your "What a Character" series! Grats to you and Gaijin for presenting a wonderful piece. Looking forward to the next one! :D
That was amazing! Thank you so much for sharing that, I wish I had seen this before working on the video, I would have definitely shared it! You've given me an idea. I think it would be cool to start incorporating different media creations like this in future videos as links to go check out in addition.
For me, I do appreciate Goomba's because if I try to ignore them and let them live in any Mario game run I do, they ALWAYS bring the leading causes of my deaths. THEN when I stomp on them they become sort of "Insignificant" because they never kill me there.
The Goombas from the original Mario brothers resemble mushrooms because they were actually a pallet swap of the power-up shroom with an added two-frame walking animation. This design choice was made to be save on the very limited NES cartridge space. The more you know~
I knew I recognized this cute voice! You did that wonderful Damsel in Distress response. I loved how positive it was in comparison to most people entering into the discussion of the princesses.
Im really enjoying this series! And im glad to be seeing more videos too! Still looking forward to a possible other channel and the podcast! Keep us updated please! :)
Really fun video. :D I never been a huge fan of the Goombas. But I do like them a lot. And do deeply appreciate all they've done. The Toads have always been my favorite. XD Maybe that was obvious with my icon? Haha. Anyway! Great video! Very fun and entertaining and lighthearted!
Didn't expect Gaijin Goombah to make an appearance here. A pleasant suprise if I do say so myself. Only 5 episodes, and you are already getting attention from big commentators. I know that you have making videos much longer then that, but I am impressed never the less. Keep going, greatness awaits!
The same with the Boos. The Boos can live alone in a haunted mansion without Bowser but then you see in Luigi's Mansion that they get bored relatively easily. Bob-ombs on the other hand live only for war and find it hard to do anything normal without blowing up (the first Mario Party game even implies this with their exploding).
Yay, Tales and Goomba join forces for an episode~ That's so cool. I mean I never expected an episode about the little minions you never think twice about. It makes your videos very thoughtful especially with the fact that Goombas are both genders. XD It almost makes me wish I could do an episode with you...
Dont worry kitetales, when i get back to playing a mario platformer i will remember this resoursful video and how important a goomba is in gaming history, so i promise you that when i come a cross with a goomba in my path next time, i shall make sure to press that A button and to stomp on that Goomba slowly with satisfication and to enjoy the time that i had with that goomba which would be a split second. I will solute and thank that Goomba on how brave it was to let me stomp on it...
Such a weird headcanon but makes sense. Just like the Toads are to Peach, Goombas are to Bowser (loyal until the bitter end). And it would make sense in Paper Mario because they're on the very edge of the town in comparison of the Mushroom Kingdom (which is mainly Toads). They would then scatter out and do things individually like be scholars or gamblers (Mario Party 4).
well i know this is most likely already said a thousand times, because this video is about a year old now... but the chestnut shaped "goombas" in super mario world and super mario 3d world, are actually "Galoombas."
Bowser has shown to care for his henchmen time and time again. Super Paper Mario shows this since he got angry when his army was captured by the Count and isn't thrilled when he sees them against him (and in the final area most of the Koopa Troopas are Dry Bones). Bowser kidnaps Peach because he likes her and not out of malicious attempt (hence why in most spin-offs Bowser leaves her alone when it comes to Party games and sports). And Bowser is a good father...
Its more say than what the Koopa Troopas can do honestly. They haven't evolved with the times while Goombas have learned to adapt to their surroundings. Boos are the same but have seemed to gain more weaknesses by refusing to change. Same with Bob-ombs and other minions. Goombs are so loyal that they adapt to be useful to their king.
Lakitu's my favorite Mario minion. I think he's adapted alongside the goombas and piranha plants. I think the koopa troopas were with Bowser from the begining cause he is their king. Their lack of focus is cause they're basically drafted, cept some of them were actually trained in combat (hammer bros, for example.)
the goombahs were turned into goombahs by bowser they were'nt already there just read the manual that comes with your copy of super mario bros. "the mushroom kingdom citizens transformed".
Not to mention they loyally march head long into battle against an unbeatable, all powerful foe that they have almost no chance of defeating, and has killed literally billions of their fellows by now. Loyal to the last, little goombahs are.
My wonderful artist friend Danny Kong draws them! His site is in the video description if you'd like to take a look at his awesome gallery; he is super talented. Also made the banner for my channel!
EXACTLY. XD I think some of them, even though they are required to show Bowser a degree of respect, don't join in his causes. In any case, I think goombas and koopas are the easiest to lead ordinary lives outside of Bowsers control cause he has so many of them around he doesn't bother to keep tabs on who still works for him. Also repeated failures mean more minions just leaving to live their own lives.
(continued) Also, I only have a few inklings of proof to this... but I think Bowser's actually a pretty decent leader when he needs to be, in a way. He doesn't care if don't have arms, or need to be submerged in water 24/7, or are completely immobile, or dead- as long as you can give Mario enough of a hassle on his way there, he wants you to go out there and do so the best you can.
The ones that stay with Bowser stay cause he always has need of them. XD, they're smaller then his other minions, and they're always coming up with more tricks, so while they're only so good in battle, they're probably really useful in other ways. Bowser HAS got an empire he's running when he's not mucking about with the princess. The goombas that left him just decided to let bygones be bygones with the toads, and found their own ways to be useful to eachother, and toads don't bother them.
Would explain why in Paper Mario they're all peaceful in comparison. XD They also hide in their shell instead of attempting to do anything in particular.
Boos may not be exclusively Bowsers minions, though, headcanonwise. It's kind of the same thing with piranha plants: They grow, they eat, but Bowser just plants them where he can. Boos are bound to their haunting grounds and would probably go after any koopas that go in there too *coughdrybonescough* As for bobombs, well haven't thought of them, since they were warts minions. Maybe Bowser dreamed them up. XD
Don't forget in "Bowsers Inside Story" he just says "fine, you're forgiven, now get back to work" to three minions who flat out betray him. You could say he was too lazy or ignorant to really recognize who they were or remember what they did, or even think of a punishment, but he still did. Besides he had a cake he needed to eat in private.
its weird how in the game goombas are considered pawns, yet when Nintendo made actual Mario chess edition, they decided to make goombas rooks. I guess they thought the goomba deserved a higher rank,
to be fair, i think that is actually genius making them the rooks, as their tactic in the newer games is generally to charge straight at the enemy, and the rook piece only moves horizontally or vertically, but moves any amount of squares, much like how a goomba charges at an enemy.
not all characters need to meet the same criteria. they have specific uses in the Mario franchise and in the background plot, and their roles in the RPGs prove that they have more roles than just a filler enemy. you can't compare what makes one character good, to what makes another good. if they all met the same criteria, then that grouping of characters wouldn't necessarily be good.
precisation: only in the campania region "cumpà" it's a dialectical way to say "compagno"(which is more like buddy rather than friend),everywhere else there are other way to say it.
They have to get close enough to do any damage. It's like stabbing someone or snapping their neck. Also, I doubt the telekinesis moves as fast as a speeding bullet.
Yeah, Peach was probably impartial to both goombas and toads. XD Toads, though, didn't trust goombas with anything important- probably saw them as clumbsy, then Bowser comes in "Nice kingdom- I'll take it." Toads are generally squishy cowards, so they fly into a panic, and goombs think "Wow- this guy scares the crap outta those jerky toads- we join him,we get respect." and swear allegance, and Bowsers like "These little guys are GREAT! They got guts and they know how awesome I am"
Nope, bob-ombs were introduced in SMB2 as well. In fact, until Yoshi's Island or SMBRPG (whichever came first) Bob-ombs were the ONLY SMB2 integrated into the rest of the series. Since they got the wind-up keys, they're probably synthetic life forms.
I did not know Goombas were part of the Mushroom Kingdom... it'd be interesting to explore that idea in a time traveling Mario RPG where there is a Goomba/Toad civil war... Also...would it be bad to jump on a Cumpà screaming, "It's-a me, Mario!"
Nice video, only a note (more for Gaijin Goomba). "Cumpà" is a Sicilian dialect word, not an Italian word. The literal meaning is "comrade", but it's usually used as "friend". The more you know.
Nice! :3 Even I learned something new today. ^^ I'd love to see an episode about Wario! He's one of my favourite Nintendo characters and the Wario Land series was a HUGE part of my childhood!
That is very true. The few exceptions when Boo can be in the daylight are the ones in Paper Mario and the Boos in the sports and party games. Like Bow is an awesome Boo (but the Boos in general were adorable in the first game. Not so much in the second...) Really? They were in the second Mario game? Aren't you thinking of Shy Guys being Warts minions?
OMIGOSH THIS SERIES IS AWESOME. Subbed. :3
Again another great very well done "What a character" i was worried when you first started airing these that they would be to short but a good time of 5-6+ is perfect for the show, I am very much enjoying this series and looking forward to more in the future :)

Loving the series; changed my perspective on the little critters that I've been stepping on to no end.
Really liking this series and how diverse it is! Keep up the good work!
Thanks for uploading this on my birthday! A great gift indeed!
There may be occasional episodes that look at characters outside gaming but for the most part they are all game characters (at least for now!)
I bet there are some runs like that out there; it'd be interesting to find out!
This is the most educational one yet. Great series-- thanks, KiteTales.
Really fun video. :D
I never been a huge fan of the Goombas. But I do like them a lot. And do deeply appreciate all they've done. The Toads have always been my favorite. XD Maybe that was obvious with my icon? Haha.
Anyway! Great video! Very fun and entertaining and lighthearted!
you have the best voice over voice in the world. along with being beautiful, intelligent and funny, your are a quadruple threat.
Goomba=Friend
Didn't expect Gaijin Goombah to make an appearance here. A pleasant suprise if I do say so myself. Only 5 episodes, and you are already getting attention from big commentators. I know that you have making videos much longer then that, but I am impressed never the less. Keep going, greatness awaits!
Hey, it's nice to see you moving on up. I found your videos through the Mighty No.9 kickstarter and you make nice videos.

Nicely explained and well done! Also I have to admit your voice is adorable. :)
I'm going to start having little hints in the forms of riddles or poems at the end of the episodes. Here's a hint: he wears boots. :)
Such a weird headcanon but makes sense. Just like the Toads are to Peach, Goombas are to Bowser (loyal until the bitter end). Thank you very much for watching! :)
well i know this is most likely already said a thousand times, because this video is about a year old now... but the chestnut shaped "goombas" in super mario world and super mario 3d world, are actually "Galoombas."
Im glad i found out about your channel ^^ you've earned a new sub
From now I will attempt to avoid violence toward the goomba race.
As the first enemy I ever squished, Goombas will always have a special place in my heart.
Bowser has shown to care for his henchmen time and time again. Super Paper Mario shows this since he got angry when his army was captured by the Count and isn't thrilled when he sees them against him (and in the final area most of the Koopa Troopas are Dry Bones). y-y-y-y...You killed the loney goomba!
no
I definitely want to do an episode on Wario some day. He's such a cool character. Both him and Luigi are on the list!
What a compliment! Thank you very much :)
I immediately thought of Paper Mario when i saw the title, those Goombas were awesome.
Its more say than what the Koopa Troopas can do honestly. They haven't evolved with the times while Goombas have learned to adapt to their surroundings. sweet gijin has led me to a yet another hidden youtube gem. subbed ;)
Fun fact: Goomba also sounds like the hungarian word for mushrooms: "Gomba"
fun fact the ability to move thing with their minds doesn't affect anything directly over their head. hence the goomba stoomp
I feel sorry for them walkin' mushrooms
Tempest Vuk but they taste good....
Yummmy :P
Tempest Vuk moist and delisuse
i will never kill another goomba
the goombahs were turned into goombahs by bowser they were'nt already there just read the manual that comes with your copy of super mario bros. "the mushroom kingdom citizens transformed".
Not to mention they loyally march head long into battle against an unbeatable, all powerful foe that they have almost no chance of defeating, and has killed literally billions of their fellows by now.

A very happy birthday to you! :D
"Easy to squish". That is a profound description :)
i don't know why i was so excited for this video. still love it though. Also, pleeeease do an episode on the Scout from tf2
I really like the visuals in these videos! Subscrizzled!
EXACTLY. XD I think some of them, even though they are required to show Bowser a degree of respect, don't join in his causes.

The 4th goomba from super mario world isn't a goomba its a galoomba. They're also in super Mario 3d world
That would be awesome! You guys should put the pressure on him for it haha :)
If you want to help with research and gathering media, we can plan on it! :)
You know, I'm currious now more than ever about the Koopa's and Goomba's side of things, and even want to know more about Bowser's origins.
The ones that stay with Bowser stay cause he always has need of them. XD, they're smaller then his other minions, and they're always coming up with more tricks, so while they're only so good in battle, they're probably really useful in other ways. As I said to Gaijin Goomba, after watching this video and learning more about goombas, I feel sorry for going out of my way to squish the little guys.
This was great! Always good to see Paper Mario 64 referenced.
Keep these videos coming KT! :)
When I think of a goombah talking I always thought of it as a high pitched Fred like voice.
makes me wonder if there's a way to do a game run where you dodge and do Not kill Goombas. seems possible. o.o
Would explain why in Paper Mario they're all peaceful in comparison. XD They also hide in their shell instead of attempting to do anything in particular.
Goombas also look exactly like Metal Slug Martians, the hardest and most seen alien species in the game
Isn't it nice? Really great viewer remixed that track. :)
The Goomba voice over sounds just the like the guy that does the Extra Credits bit on Penny Arcade. If so.. awesome!
Don't forget in "Bowsers Inside Story" he just says "fine, you're forgiven, now get back to work" to three minions who flat out betray him.
You could say he was too lazy or ignorant to really recognize who they were or remember what they did, or even think of a punishment, but he still did. Besides he had a cake he needed to eat in private.
... man, talking to you about all this makes me sort of wish there was some sort of "Before Mario" comic book or something.
For some reason the back end of older Porsche 928 always looked like a Goomba's to me.
its weird how in the game goombas are considered pawns, yet when Nintendo made actual Mario chess edition, they decided to make goombas rooks. I guess they thought the goomba deserved a higher rank,
to be fair, i think that is actually genius making them the rooks, as their tactic in the newer games is generally to charge straight at the enemy, and the rook piece only moves horizontally or vertically, but moves any amount of squares, much like how a goomba charges at an enemy.
well said
Indeed a good choice, for both the character and the special guest. I hope you manege to do something related to Rayman too.
not all characters need to meet the same criteria. they have specific uses in the Mario franchise and in the background plot, and their roles in the RPGs prove that they have more roles than just a filler enemy. you can't compare what makes one character good, to what makes another good. if they all met the same criteria, then that grouping of characters wouldn't necessarily be good.
A very awesome Character video!
precisation: only in the campania region "cumpà" it's a dialectical way to say "compagno"(which is more like buddy rather than friend),everywhere else there are other way to say it.
They should put a goomba in MarioCart. He'd just drive straight into the wall on every map.
Ah, I knew I should have ponied up and hired a consultant...
Thank you! Sounds just about right for the life of a Goomba. Poor little guys just seem to end up that way. :)
Makes you wonder... if goombas are telekinetic, even in so limited a fashion, why do they have to touch Mario to kill him?
They have to get close enough to do any damage. It's like stabbing someone or snapping their neck.
Also, I doubt the telekinesis moves as fast as a speeding bullet.
Lugbzurg Goomba smash 4 dlc plz
brody3060
That would be fun! ^_^
brody3060 what would his moveset be?
Yeah, Peach was probably impartial to both goombas and toads. Phanto scared the crap out of me...
I'd like to see the Triclyde make a comeback.
I believe the "chestnut" Goomba is called a Galoomba.
Rikor Volsati yup
I don't think they have so powerful telekinesis, they can only use it to hold things
So are you, Ness! :D
I did not know Goombas were part of the Mushroom Kingdom... it'd be interesting to explore that idea in a time traveling Mario RPG where there is a Goomba/Toad civil war...
Also...would it be bad to jump on a Cumpà screaming, "It's-a me, Mario!"
I always thought goombas had small invisible arms
Nice video, only a note (more for Gaijin Goomba).
"Cumpà" is a Sicilian dialect word, not an Italian word. The literal meaning is "comrade", but it's usually used as "friend".
The more you know.
Hmmm.... Possibly. My voice is floating around out there on a couple of different projects.
Nice! :3 Even I learned something new today. ^^
I'd love to see an episode about Wario! He's one of my favourite Nintendo characters and the Wario Land series was a HUGE part of my childhood!
Oh, wow. That Mario 64 music. So relaxing I could take a nap.
Thank you very much!
I found tis video by random, and I am happy I found it :) keep it up guys
this is first time i see gaijin goombah and the lonely goomba is saying the same things you have telekenisis
I never thought ANYONE would Bring up marina, I was Starting to Feel like no one knew about her.
That is very true. The few exceptions when Boo can be in the daylight are the ones in Paper Mario and the Boos in the sports and party games. Like Bow is an awesome Boo (but the Boos in general were adorable in the first game. Not so much in the second...)
Really? They were in the second Mario game? Aren't you thinking of Shy Guys being Warts minions?
I'm happy for watch it...
4:22 kinda makes me think of Kite Tales as a disney princess ^.^
Also you forgot gaijin that goomba also means troop
Thank you!
YEEEAH GAIJIN! That's my goombro! :D
Awesome video! I'ma stick around! :)
2014 YEAR OF THE GOOMBA
