What a machine he was!!🔥 You can clearly see that most opponents were out cold before they even hit the canvas! And his low kicks... were brutally devestating!!
I remember this guy .. I was so saddened by his death this year. I loved watching him fight. So much so that I got so mad when he fought Rufus in his style but Rufus refused him at Muay Thai. Rufus knew those low kicks would make a huge difference. Without those Rob couldn't use his awesome weapon. Growing up watching him was awesome. He was one BAD DUDE for sure. My grandpa loved him cause he fought ALL that they put in front of him and in their styles. Even if it meant he was at a disadvantage. You don't see that nowadays. Fighters don't take those risks. This was an awesome short film and WOW did it bring back a flood of emotions and memories with my grandpa and my father when we watched Rob. Those were some great times. That Rufus knew that he would destroy him if he was allowed to use his low kicks! It took great courage to fight without your best weapon and it took nothing but cowardice to not fight him in his style!!! Rufus shamed the US!!!
@Glenn-m1t .. Roufus remembered the beating he took in 1988 from Changpuek Kiatsongrit... and even in that fight, the Thai fighter was banned from using his elbows and knee strikes. I think Roufus thought he could KO him by taking away his powerful weapons but Kiatsongrit took his best and by the 4th round Roufus was running away from those leg kicks until he could no longer stand on them and fell to the canvas losing by TKO.
Man he's the best technical striker I have ever seen and it's a honor to see him do what he does and does better than anyone..thanks for posting...i hope he gets the historical acclaimed recognition i believe he deserves...yes sir it is an honor to see..perfect
I dislike when people bring MMA into everything else, as if Bruce Lee would not have adapted, etc. But going in the other direction, even the best leg kickers in the MMA, and I really don't know who that would be, mainly because you don't see people dropping people with leg kicks. So, that's my point. You just don't see that. The fact that he was doing that against even Muai Thai people says a lot. If someone in the MMA had results like he did with leg kicks, they'd be a formidable opponent.

I used to run into Rick Roufus at Obake fight school in Atlanta back in the early 2000’s. He was always the most mellow guy in the gym. Hell of a fighter.
OMG, I am an avid watcher of, martial arts, kickboxing, and MMA. I have never heard of Rob. I will say one thing. I watched this docu-short and now I am all beat up. When Rob would lock his opponent, I would fly off the bed. I kept watching and now I have a bloody nose. I am on my way to the hospital, as Rob is (the "real deal") and in my eyes [which are puffy] is a bonified legend. I am so happy that this docu-short was made and well made. Wow!!! RIP, brother, Rob... I wish I could have seen Rob in person. I joke around about getting beat up watching this but the leg kicks were hurting me as well as his opponent. Respectfully.
A truly great fighter and not dirty at all, unlike a lot of his opponents> What a great career 98 wins with only 12 losses and fought all comers, with all different rule sets. A true great of the fight scene!

Hope to see more of young fighters today with such character and skill . May u R.I.P true champ.
I went From Boxing to Kickboxing in the early 90's and a lot of our coaches, trainers and even the Vice President of the IKF used to talk about Rob Kaman. He was a Legend. At the time I didn't understand because I never got to see him fight. But when TH-cam came out and started posting video's of him, Suddenly I realized why everyone was talking about this guy!
Growing up in Amsterdam as a Thai Boxer during Rob's massive demolition tenure was an great inspiration He was an absolute wrecking machine. Holland has had many awesome martial artists over the last 25 years. I want to see them enter into the UFC.
I don't envy any of Rob Kaman's many victims. Rob seems to have been one of those rare people who are naturally blessed with an unnatural power. Fighters like him don't come around often, but when they do, they're amazing to watch!
@@judowrestlerka , He fought 98 fights, that is an active fighter, and if you ask 78 of the people he knocked out they would agree. Fighting is about making money, and fight money was hard to come by in the early days, you had to enjoy fighting. By your logic you probably think Benny the Jet was a bad fighter as well. Rob was a legend in every sense of the word, he paved the way for what you now know as MMA.
@baloog8 I think you estimate is a bit large. I understand better than probley most what the difference between a trained, conditioned, disciplined and level headed fighter is. Of my 51 years I've wrestled folkstyle and Greaco-Roman, competed in Judo you the last 20 years and still train hard every day. I coach and teach at 3 BJJ schools around the month so the Jui Jitsu folks can survive a fight against much faster catch and freestyle fighters and not get slammed around.
wow. the sound of the punches landing and the kicks. what a phenomenally well rounded fighter. and fought with honor too. that fight with roofus was incredible, both fighters were amazing
Now I know why Joe Rogan always mentioned him as one of the very best strikers. It shows you how much of a warrior he was that he fought Roufus twice under his rules but Roufus never returned the favour back to Kaman.RIP😢

Its a shame they are both gone. They were true legends. The Dutch were beasts. I still follow MMA and boxing/Thai boxing today. Its cool to see the sport evolve. Great videos!!
I used to run into Rick Roufus at Obake fight school in Atlanta back in the early 2000’s. He was always the most mellow guy in the gym. Hell of a fighter.
I am almost 40 and I love learning about brutal fighters that eluded me as a child. This guy is a surgeon.
Man I had never heard of this champ before , what scares me more is not his low kicks , but his CHARACTER of class , humanity and sportsmanship at the same time equip with such ferocious low kicks & punching power . Hope to see more of young fighters today with such character and skill . May u R.I.P true champ.
Rob is the literal definition of that saying "it's time to kick ass and chew gum, but I'm all out of gum".
Bravo on this video, the old archival footage brought me back to my childhood. Thanks for shining a light on Rob!
This man is the reason I wanted to study Muay Thai kickboxing growing up watching him fight
RIP Rob Kaman, Warrior & Gentleman extraordinaire 🥲
Growing up in Amsterdam as a Thai Boxer during Rob's massive demolition tenure was an great inspiration He was an absolute wrecking machine. Holland has had many awesome martial artists over the last 25 years. I want to see them enter into the UFC.
great tribute, brought me back to my childhood in the 90's. The champ deserved it, good job mate
What an amazing fighter...his children and family must be so proud to have a legend like him for others to be inspired.
RIP KAMAN. Nederlandse Legende
I don't envy any of Rob Kaman's many victims. Rob seems to have been one of those rare people who are naturally blessed with an unnatural power. Fighters like him don't come around often, but when they do, they're amazing to watch!
totally agree,,watched his Training Tapes years ago,,,what a fighter,,never gave in,,,sorry ,didn't know he passed away,,,R.I.P.Champion.
Over 60% of the guys he fought had really bad records.
10-21, 9-19.......that's a real bad dude.....crushing soda cans in the ring.
@@judowrestlerkasure but make no mistake, any of those guys would lay out 99.999 of people on the street. He's a warrior.
113 Total Fights - 98 Wins and 78 Knockouts 9x Kickboxing Champion. Imagine this man in his prime in UFC, would be a speedrun faster than Poatan.
Until literally anyone in the top 10 got a hold of him. Hard to throw low kicks when you are on your back getting your arm broken in an arm bar.
@@nemesis11fp20just like everybody in the top 10 did to Izzy and Alex. Oh wait…. Dweeb.
holy toledo thats a crazy win/loss ratio.
UFC includes grabbling. Thats another world
Yeah as they say 90% of fights end up on the ground so can't take grappling out of the picture.
wow. the sound of the punches landing and the kicks. what a phenomenally well rounded fighter. and fought with honor too. that fight with roofus was incredible, both fighters were amazing
Very self-confident warrior. He really deserve to be more famous. He is a legend
This was bloody brilliant. Always been a fan of the Dutch Thai boxing style.
Now I know why Joe Rogan always mentioned him as one of the very best strikers.
It shows you how much of a warrior he was that he fought Roufus twice under his rules but Roufus never returned the favour back to Kaman.RIP😢
Yeah that's because he knew that he didn't stand a chance!!!
Rob his trainingspartner in Pattaya Thailand was the legend Thai fighter SAMART says all footwork, timing ,bring him to another level.🔥🔥🔥🔥
Never knew this and Samart is my favourite Thai boxer, thanks for the cool fact.
Love this old-school based docu-style videos you do.
Awesome job recounting a legend.
I've been into martial arts since I was 12 and now I'm 60 and never heard of this guy. What a beast! In his prime he would dominate the UFC. Absolutely amazing power, skill, and technique. Nasty timing too.
Ty you for this well done video.I’m an instant admirer of Mr.Rob Kamam. What a warrior!
Rob Kaman is an absolute Legend ! Perhaps THE BEST fighter of all times (pound for pound), all fighting sports alike ! Kaman was probably the most dangerous fighter of this era.
I had no idea Rob was gone. What a tragic loss of a true legend. My sympathies to his family. RIP Mr. Low Kick.
Wow! What a journey! This was a great history view of a legendary fighter that I haven't heard of until today. R.I.P. Rob Kaman🙏🏿🍻👑
How is it I've never heard of him before today. Great career!
What a champ! He fought anybody everybody regardless of the rule set! True Warrior indeed!
Dude was bad ass. Can’t believe I never knew of him. Tragic loss at such a young age.
“I’d like to challenge ‘Mr. Low Kick’ on one condition: No low kicks.”
-Rick Roufus
That was American kickboxing rules at the time. Rick never trained Muay Thai. Why would he fight with leg kicks?
@@Doggo-frencton then Ricky should have gone to boxing . No leg kicks as a kickboxer is like a footballer not using his feet
Rick was goat high kicks but in a unrestricted kicking he would have lost to Mr Low Kick I think
@@Doggo-frencton He and his brother moved to muay thai after that famous fight where he learned about muay thai the hard way.
@@Doggo-frencton wtf, kickboxing without leg kicks.... that sounds stupid
A Redo of Healer reference was not expected in this video, but I respect it. That fight with Rufus might be the most brutal fight I’ve ever seen, I’m very thankful y’all showed me this dude’s career. Never would have known about him otherwise, and he truly is a legend.
My first time seeing this legendary fighter unbelievably!. Also some awesome fighter's on this. Thanks for uploading. Much appreciated 🙏🏽😉
While I was preparing for my back belt test, Joe Lewis was my roommate in Wilmington, NC. Joe gave me a few VHS tapes of Rob Kaman"s fights. Joe told me when you learn how to kick like him, you will never worry about passing any black belt test. He was so right. Thank you Joe Lewis for many years of our friendship. You are truly missed, and you will always be "The Man".
