The palmetto is important in South Carolina's history: in the revolutionary war, South Carolina troops were once forced to take shelter from the Brits behind a barrier made from felled palmettos. Lo and behold, the resilient and springy trees did a great job in repelling the incoming cannon fire.
Never heard Illinois referred to as the Prairie State - generally it's called "the land of Lincoln" because Lincoln spent much of his life before the presidency there, practicing law, raising his family, etc. .
License plates say “Land of Lincoln”. My mom is from Skokie and one of my grandfathers still lives there. Wikipedia says “Land of Lincoln”, “Prairie State” and the “Inland Empire”. Edit Just looked it up on an IL state site. Official nickname is Prairie State and state slogan is Land of Lincoln.
Michigan is often called the “Wolverine State,” its more common nickname is the “Great Lakes State.” This name comes from the fact that Michigan is the only state in the United States that borders four of the five Great Lakes. Also referred to as the “Water Wonderland,” The name Michigan itself comes from the Chippewa word, michi-gama, meaning “large lake.”
@SandyD2022 The Great Lakes State is the best nickname. We don’t even have any wolverines native to or living in our state, so it shouldn’t ever be called that! (I guess unless you’re also going to call it the Spartan state! 😂) Go Green! 💚🌲✋🏼
Wyoming is known BOTH as the Cowboy AND Equality State. First is obvious, the second because we were the first state to legalize Women's Suffrage (ability to legally vote).
The golden gate is the strait at the entrance into San Francisco Bay. Early pioneer John Fremont named it that when he saw it. He said it was the golden gate to the orient; across the Pacific. Later when the bridge was built it was named after the strait and called the Golden Gate Bridge.
Utah and beehives: IIRC, the Mormon settlers in Utah were once nearly wiped out by a plague (of locusts?), but the plague was driven off by swarms of bees.

Hello from Utah, the Beehive State! 🐝 The original name for the territory that became Utah was 'Deseret' which supposedly means 'honeybee' (according to the Book of Mormon) and is a symbol of Industry (which is the state motto). While there is no linguistic evidence in support of the term 'Deseret' meaning 'honeybee' in any known language it *is* true that the bee was a symbol of Upper Egypt which was know as 'Deshret' to the Egyptians (Red Land - as opposed to 'Khemet' - Black Land for Lower Egypt).
Maine's nickname "The Pine Tree State" is because we have trillions of them but we also were used by the British Crown for providing mast pines for ships and later the US Navy and commercial ships from U.S.. The kings mark could (maybe still can) be found on some large old trees. Also, the most forested state of all states and one of the largest Christmas Tree Suppliers in the Nation.

Popular culture here in Missouri is that The Show Me state comes from an old joke. A Missouri mule trader is trying to sell a mule to a Missouri farmer. The trader says that the mule can carry a heavy load as evidenced by the strength of his kick. The Missouri farmer standing behind the mule says, "Oh yeah? Show me!"
There`s a tail going about here in Yorkshire regarding a chap who walked into a Pub called The Donkey. Don`t go - I`ve not finished yet : Upon ordering a pint this chap notices a donkey in the back yard, idly stood having a piss on its knee caps. `Landlord says to his guest, " Aye - as might be expected I`m rather proud of our donkey." The guest retorts, " I`ll wager 50 quid that I can make your donkey laugh. " Landlord says, " Let`s go for it." Chap goes out into the yard and has a few words to say in the donkey`s ear. Upon which the donkey falls over in a heap of giggles. The Landlord was amazed, saying that he`d not had a laugh out of that donkey in years. " How did you manage to do that ?, he askes. The guest replied, " I said I had a bigger dick than he has." ( But wait - because we`re not through yet ) : The guest said, " I bet I can make your Donkey cry as well !" They shook upon deal number 2 - and off the guest goes into the yard again. When he walks back into the pub the donkey is drowning in tears, unconsolable. `Landlord says, " what did you do to my Donkey. Guest says - "I showed him the size of my pr`k !"
Texas: was part of the Mexican state of Coahuila y Tejas. That state flag had the Mexican flag colors/design with 2 stars in the center. Texians/Tejanos didn’t feel represented and fought for independence. Breaking away from Mexico, and the 2 stars of Coahuila y Tejas, led Texas to go with 1 lone star.

They wander into the Upper Peninsula from Wisconsin from time to time, but there's never been any known resident population of wolverines anywhere in Michigan, and they were never hunted for their fur here. Further backing the Toledo War explanation, some even credit the sentiments from the conflict as developing into one of the biggest college sports rivalries in the country between the University of Michigan -- the Wolverines -- and Ohio State University -- the Buckeyes. We aren't aiming weapons at each other anymore, but the state line is VERY weil-defined with maize and blue "M" flags flying to the north, and red, white, silver and black "Ohio State" flags to the south.
Washington state is more like the "Ever Gray State". Its state bird is mildew, Its state mammal is Moss, its state fossil is Lichen and its state flower is Slime.
Yes, The Golden Gate Bridge named is attached to the gold rush. The major of gold was pushed thru the San Francisco Bay. Alcatraz Piston was originally built has a fort the protect the Bay. There are old cannon battery’s on the hillside to the north of the bridge and Fort Point on the South of the bridge giving the mouth of the bay over lapping cannon fire.
North Dakota is called the Peace Garden state because the garden is a physical representation of our peace treaty and strong relationship between the US and Canada. “Visitors from either country can enter the park via US 281 or MB 10, without passing through customs, and may move throughout the park (crossing the international boundary at will) without restriction. However, the International Peace Garden Border Crossing stations for Canada and the U.S. are located on the roads just north and south (respectively) of the access drives for the garden, requiring all visitors - including those returning to the country from which they arrived - to go through the immigration procedures of their destination country upon leaving the garden.” -Wikipedia
Montana has another nickname: "Big Sky Country," because of low horizons all around!!! The Eastern two/thirds of the state seems NOT to have anything to break up the skyline. But you WILL find Glacier National Park, and part of Yellowstone National Park in Montana!!!
The Goldel Gate is the name of the channel that goes into the San Francisco Bay. The bridge is across the golden gate, hence the name golden gate bridge.
Very interesting that Iowa is the Hawkeye State, named after the main character in "The Last of the Mohicans". The book was written about battles that happened during the French and Indian War at Fort William Henry in Lake George, NY. And it was written by James Fenimore Cooper, who lived most of his life in Cooperstown, NY (founded by his Father, William Cooper), which is also the home of the Baseball Hall of Fame. So, nothing to do with Iowa. LOL I guess some founder of Iowa really loved the book.
The Golden Gate Bridge is named that because it was the gateway for ships to enter San Francisco Bay as they came to California for the gold rush. Hence, it was the gateway to the Golden State.
Massachusetts has often been called Taxachusetts since it has high taxes, and fees. Some refer to Florida as FloriDUh, probably due to the Florida man tropes.
As a Arkansas native I will say the reason it’s known as the natural state is bc of the mountains, lakes and rivers and bc when people visit they can go horse back riding, hunting, fishing, go on bike trails, lots of places to go camping and there are places for people to go hiking.
Louisiana is also known as the "Hunters(or "Sportsman's" depending on preference) Paradise." If he's gonna mention alternate nicknames wish he'd be consistent. Never heard us called called the "Pelican State" by a actual person before.

The Alabama nickname is in the song they sing at the University of Alabama sports games when they win. "Hey Auburn (x3) We just beat the hell out of you!, Rammer Jammer, Yellowhammer, Give'em hell Alabama!". The next time you're in the States you MUST attend an SEC game! I'm partial to Bama of course 🐘. Roll Tide!

Kentucky bluegrass, especially when allowed to grow high, is a dark green-blue compared to the apple-green color of meadow grasses. Seeing rolling fields of it with horses would give you the idea. In a world with no TV, people could really discern things that, frankly, is kind of lost on me. Love your videos. Been watching a couple of months. Thanks!
The entrance to San Francisco Bay is Called the Golden Gate because of the Forty niners that arrived for the Gold rush that way. The Bridge spans Golden Gate.
General Knowledge, not Geography Now. Magnolias are flowering trees. The Lonestar flag is from Texas’ time as an independent country after seceding from Mexico. Golden gate is the name of the strait the GGB crosses, and refers to prosperous trade not literal gold. Are Can Saw. And just to be clear, Wolverine is from Canada. 🙂
I’m from Utah. It’s also called the beehive state because back when it was becoming a state the Mormon church worked hard and staid together to help and keep each other alive.
Michigander, what he doesn't say is, Michigan was promised that land and Ohio became a state first and usurped it. Michigan was promised the bottom of each great lake and across, Toledo is above that. Toledo was a big industrial city at the time and Michigan was mad about it, when Ohio insulted them by calling Michiganders that name, the people of Michigan were like YEAH WE ARE WHAT ABOUT IT, don't mess with Michigan!!!!! Thats when they made the Wolverine our state animal. HAHA, thats how we got the upper peninsula, which ended up being worth a lot more, so HA Ohio
Please. DC IS the government. The only reason is Dems want more electoral votes that'll reliably vote Democrat. It's bad enough that DC workers are allowed to live in neighboring states, the whole point of DC was for the government workers.
The lone star in the Texas flag does not represent opposition to the United States, far from it. That flag was adopted before readmission to the Union after the Civil War only in the sense that it had been the state's flag ever since we declared independence from Mexico. The flag, with its red and white bars, blue field, nd ingle white star, was adopted by the *republic* of Texas in deliberate imitation of the US flag to show our affinity with America. It had one star because we were one state. The flag was maintained after admission to the Union.
While Maryland became a "free state," with respect to slavery in 1864 (ahead of the 13th Amendent), the use of Free State as a nickname for Maryland was actually popularized by an editor of the Baltimore Sun newspaper, Hamilton Owens, in the 1920s as a tongue-in-cheek response to some national politicians who criticized Maryland for not enforcing Prohibition (banning of the sale of alcohol), Owens declared Maryland to be the independent "Maryland Free State."
I’m originally from the Buckeye State, have nearly always summered in the Wolverine State and now I’m a Hoosier! (Ohio, Michigan and Indiana). I have also lived in the Empire State and the Garden State! Adore the Land of Enchantment but don’t know if that’s it’s nickname or not! Love your channel.
Yup. Don't let Orange-Red of the bridge throw you off; Golden State, Golden Gate..."There be GOLD in them thar hills!" (Plus, the 49ers; gold rush of 1849-)😊
I wonder if it an AI reading because NO adult American would call it Ar-Kansas, even being from another state you would have heard the correct way of saying it enough to not make that mistake. Yeah has to be an AI or European
San Francisco was the landing spot for most of the miners looking for gold. It cause the population to instantly rise 10 fold from a bare 2000 people before the gold rush to over 10000 in less than a year. Also every Asian immigrant went through San Francisco’s Angel Island to get into the states. Gold is a major good luck symbol in Asian culture. A major Chinatown sprang up because of this immigration. You also might see the occasional old man who wears the traditional Chinese garments in broad daylight which odd isn’t really as it’s Chinatown. The Chinese originally came for the transcontinental railroad but most stayed as it was better wages and an easier path to becoming a US citizen. Unfortunately the Chinese exclusion act was a big detriment which was repealed after the Second World War. That made getting to the US much safer.
The fruit of the buckeye tree looks like a Buck’s Eye, dark brown with a smaller, lighter circle. This nut is not edible by people, but it is eaten by many kinds of wildlife. Some people consider carrying a buckeye in your pocket to bring good luck. Our state flag has a stylized circular representation of a buckeye, and it’s also the shape of the letter O for Ohio. We are also famous for buckeye candies, a ball made of melted peanut butter and powdered sugar, dipped into melted chocolate 3/4 or 4/5 of the way. If you haven’t had it, look up some recipes! Yum! 😋
I live in Wisconsin and nobody here uses the Nickname “Badger state” unless you’re talking about college football. The more common state nickname is “America’s Dairyland” or “The dairy State” so idk why the video used the other one.

I'm not so sure that "Golden State", comes from the gold discovered in California. The state flower is the "Golden Poppy". It used to blanket coastal mountains and foothills. Also meadows and foothills to all of the inland mountain ranges. People arriving in California in the spring (especially by boat), commented that California is a golden state.
At 1:50 when he says Ar-Kansas, I know the people who live in Arkansas (Ar can saw) are mad 😅
I think that narrative is AI.
That's what I was thinking too haha

However, the International Peace Garden Border Crossing stations for Canada and the U.S. are located on the roads just north and south (respectively) of the access drives for the garden, requiring all visitors - including those returning to the country from which they arrived - to go through the immigration procedures of their destination country upon leaving the garden.” -Wikipedia
i was hoping it was going to be a quiz
The mispronunciations are killing me lol
You did an amazing reaction all by yourself. I almost prefer it. I’m from the Empire State and now live in the Keystone State.
Never heard us called called the "Pelican State" by a actual person before.
you got it right about the golden gate bridge...I was born and raised here in California and that always confused me considering its a giant red bridge
Its not red, its orange
The Alabama nickname is in the song they sing at the University of Alabama sports games when they win. "Hey Auburn (x3) We just beat the hell out of you!, Rammer Jammer, Yellowhammer, Give'em hell Alabama!". The next time you're in the States you MUST attend an SEC game! I'm partial to Bama of course 🐘. Roll Tide!
I live in The Natural State. I've tried spotting Mt. Magazine in MSFS, but no luck. Then again, I've never actually been there, so I wouldn't know what to look for.
Thanks!
Great video! Thank you!
The Golden Gate is the strait, or entrance to San Francisco Bay. The bridge spans the Golden Gate, hence the name Golden Gate Bridge.
Michigan is also the Great Lakes State!
Hope you're enjoying your trip!
DC license plates say TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION (because both are literally true).
Minnesota is also known as the Gopher State, and Montana is more commonly referred to as the Big Sky State.
MN also Gopher state
Have you tried the candy called Buckeyes? They are great! peanut butter and chocolate. Your mom might really enjoy them.
Yup. Don't let Orange-Red of the bridge throw you off; Golden State, Golden Gate..."There be GOLD in them thar hills!" (Plus, the 49ers; gold rush of 1849-)😊
Where in the hell is this guy from 😂 he cannot be American due to his wording of Arkansas 😂
The voice is computerized.
Cool video. I live in the Magnolia State.
The sunniest place on the North American Continent is The Valley of The Sun, The Phoenix Metro/Salt Valley. Average 300 days a year.
Massachusetts should just be masshole state or Taxachusetts
I love that Oklahoma got it's nickname from people cheating.
"Aloha 🤙" You may have noticed that I always greet you this way 😉
Arizona was previously known as "The Copper State".
Ohio is actually named after the buckeye tree, the football team came later and is also named after the tree.
The Land of Enchantment is my favorite.
Greetings from the Empire State 🗽
For some reason, most of Maryland on that map is depicted as a body of water...
Most states have multiple nicknames.
Ohio is Buckeye pronounced buck-eye because the buckeye looks like an eye...lol...great reaction, thank you for sharing.
Yum! 😋
I live in Arkansas and it has not been the toothpick state in many many years,it was last known as Land of Opportunity!!
I live in Wisconsin and nobody here uses the Nickname “Badger state” unless you’re talking about college football. The more common state nickname is “America’s Dairyland” or “The dairy State” so idk why the video used the other one.
Arizona is also the 'Copper State' cus it has alot of copper mines & 'Valentine State' cus it became the 48th state to join the union on February 14th 1912....I actually live in the Sunniest Place on Earth (Yuma, AZ) with over 200 days of sun
We love you too!
Multiple times men bang on my door asking i want to sell my jetskis
I'm not so sure that "Golden State", comes from the gold discovered in California. The state flower is the "Golden Poppy". It used to blanket coastal mountains and foothills. Also meadows and foothills to all of the inland mountain ranges. People arriving in California in the spring (especially by boat), commented that California is a golden state.
Green mountain state
Its NOT aar Kansas, its ar can saw.
Alaska is so big you could cut it in 2 pieces and Texas would still be the 3 largest state
Am I the only one who cringes when he says Are Kansas?
The video uses a computerized voice .
