Richard, just a suggestion. Have you considered using good old-fashioned aerosol hair spray to connect the rubber hose to the big shot? When in liquid form it is very slippery but once it dries, it is like glue. I mention this idea because that is what is used to install bicycle handlebar grips. Check it out. I believe it will hold amazingly well.
Stephen Hobbs perhaps minimal but I would still be concerned about the long-term effects of alcohol on the rubber. I do love all of the thinking and ideas that others come up with.
