      When I put the mobi format into Calibre and then convert it to EPUB it seems to only show the cover... Is there a way to check that the Mobi file from KDP properly downloaded it all? @EeviJones

    Love your videos, Eevi! Couldn't have published my book without all your advice. The one thing I think is important to communicate about using KKBC over KC, a disadvantage actually, is that the pages will not rotate on the Kindle app so it will remain fixed in landscape mode on a vertical screen instead of rotating to a proper landscape view when the phone is held horizontally, which in my mind is a big enough reason not to use KKBC nowadays. Another advantage of using KC over KKBC is that the "Read Sample" will appear beautifully fitted and allow scrolling. I found that when I first published the book using KKBC, the double page layout would actually show 2 pages side by side, making it too small to read the text. If one doesn't have to add text, it seems like KC is the clear winner between the two softwares.

    • @EeviJones
      @EeviJones  19 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts. If we want to be able to view our book horizontally, it's important to select the "landscape" option during our ebook creation (minute marker 7:09 in the video). And instead of choosing the "two images side-by-side," we will want to make sure to select "one image at a time" and then upload our double spreads. That way, we can view our left and right side (double spread) in one image horizontally.

    • @mkleebooks
      @mkleebooks 19 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@EeviJones Hi Eevi, I did choose "landscape" and "one image at a time" - and it appears on the Kindle device as it should. But I still found that on the Kindle app for the phone, the double spread page will appear in landscape while the phone is held up vertically and will not rotate even if you rotate your phone to horizontal. So, you can image how small the page would be - just the width of your phone. I've tested it with other children's ebooks and found the same result for 80% of them. After researching KDP forums, I read that this is caused by using KKBC, which is outdated. Only when I republished the book using KC, the pages did rotate as they should depending on how I held the phone. So, for me at least, I chose the correct settings and still encountered this issue while using KKBC.

    After following your videos and using your tools, I finally had my book go live on KDP. Thanks for all your insight and help. I have one question on the ebook about formatting the cover. On the one that just went live I used the spread like you suggested but it looks funny on the live site. I have a boarder on the paperback cover so on the spread it goes all the way across the spread and KDP is showing the whole spread on the order site and the print is much smaller. Do I have to use a spread (like the other pages) or can I load the cover from my paperback?

    • @EeviJones
      @EeviJones  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You are so very welcome! And congratulations on your newly published book! When setting up our ebook, we won't be using the spread as its cover. Instead, we will simply use the front cover part for our ebook cover (the way we would want it to be displayed). I so hope this helps!

    Eevi, Great video! I've never written an e-book, and this was very helpful. What software do you use for generating the jpg files? Do you have a recommended height and width resolution for the jpgs? Have you done any audio book videos?

    • @EeviJones
      @EeviJones  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks so much! I'm glad you found this helpful. I personally use a program called Sketchbook, but any software will do. I always have my illustrations created at 300 DPI, that way, they are perfect for printing as well. As to your heights / width question, this would depend on multiple things; for example, whether or not you also wish to use those illustrations for a paperback version of your book. Hi Evie, I watched your video the same day I hired a company to convert my book to eBook. They were gracious to refund the $800. I used your tip to make all pages the same size and it looks amazing. HERE IS MY QUESTION/PROBLEM AND IT'S HOLDING ME BACK. If my reader selects Landscape, it looks great. If my reader selects Portrait it is microscopic. If I select Landscape/Double image for my book, is this what will automatically show for my customer? Or will they have to set their e-Reader to landscape?

      @EeviJones  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Ohhh, that's absolutely fantastic, Laura! I'm SO glad you were able to format your own ebook and receive a refund! I so hope this helps!

  • @artbytav

    Your series has been super helpful, thanks to you I'm ordering the first proofs of my paperback today. I have questions about the ebook cover resolution, it seems different than the double spread images or even the title page in the front matter. KDP suggests a portrait resolution of "2,560 pixels in height x 1,600 pixels in width" but my paperback cover includes the back cover and is in landscape. Is there a difference between your cover resolution and your interior manuscript pages? Did you have to edit your paperback cover to fit into a specific ebook resolution? Also, do you include your back cover for ebooks? Danke schön.

    • @EeviJones
      @EeviJones  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Hi Tav! I'm so happy to hear that my videos have been so helpful. Our ebook covers will differ from our paperbacks and hardcovers in that it will have to be the front only. So all you would have to do is essentially crop away the spine and back cover, and only use the front part. I personally always keep the resolution the same. I so hope this helps. Happy Friday!

    Hi Eevi, I have another company publishing the paperback and hardcover versions of my children’s book. I’d like to tackle the ebook version on my own. Should I wait until they launch my other two versions first before I add the ebook version? Will the e-book version appear with my other two options? Also, do I need an ISBN number with the ebook?
    Thank you for all your help and encouragement! Angela

    • @EeviJones
      @EeviJones  17 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hi Angela! We usually won't need an ISBN for our ebook (th-cam.com/video/mqkm8NI23hE/w-d-xo.html). As long as your different formats are set up under the same account, they should all appear on the same sales page over on Amazon. And whether or not you should wait or publish all formats together very much depends on your marketing strategy. Personally, I like to launch with an ebook option, simply because it is more cost effective for my launch team, and because it allows us to set up ebook promotions during the launch period. I so hope this helps, Angela! Happy launching!

    Hi Eevi. I was not clear on one thing...what size should my images be? If my paperback is 7x10, and I want the ebook images in portrait orientation, should the jpgs just be 7x10 (provided there is no need for bleed)? What size will be optimal for better display on all devices? Thanks in advance.

    • @EeviJones
      @EeviJones  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Hi Anthony! When putting my ebooks together, I simply use the same images I used for my print copies. So if your trim sizse is 7x10 inches, then your images would probably be around 2100x3000 px at 300 DPI. When it comes to ebooks, we won't have to worry about bleed, but if your images include any bleed allowances, you can simply use those sizes as well. I hope this helps. This is all really great content, thank you! I am curious if you or anyone else has come across this issue - I had someone create a file for me and it was KPF and I realized I need a different format in order to advertise (as somehow their format isn't compatible the e-reader?) so it required Fixed format (MOBI I believe currently). I had this one created and now am getting an error that KDP won't allow this different format.
